Disciples of Messiah and Spiritual Fruit

by John and Ruth Greene

“And He spoke this parable: A man had planted a fig tree in his vineyard. And he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any. And he said to the workers, ‘Behold, three years I come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down, and why should the ground be wasted?’ And a worker said to him, ‘master, leave it also this year until I shall dig around it and throw manure; Maybe it will produce fruit, and if not, next year you may cut it down.'” – Luke 13:6-9, HRB

jesus-teachingBefore Yahshua [Jesus] told this parable, he had just discussed the guilt of those that recently died in Jerusalem in police actions and accidents. His audience may have desired that Messiah would side with their concerns. Yahshua [Jesus] did not specifically condemn those that had died and He didn’t comment on the tragedies themselves. His statement that they repent or perish is a bold confrontation of the spiritual condition of his audience. As Jews, they would not appreciate Yahshua [Jesus] pointing this out, especially if they were looking for sympathy. Yahshua [Jesus] is more concerned with eternal life and told his audience that if they did not repent, they would all perish as well. The end result of any that fail to turn aside from unrepentant sin or evil will end up in the same death as those that die by accident or any other way. To avoid a gut reaction and to focus on the truth, Yahshua [Jesus] quickly told a parable to continue his point and emphasize the importance of his true concern. He seeks to bring out the best and most beneficial purpose of Elohim’s [‘God’, YHWH] Will through each disciple. Even when a disciple does not bear fruit because of imperfection and backsliding in some way, He seeks to fertilize the roots to create good spiritual health and fruit, bringing or restoring the disciple to fruit-bearing health. Fertilizing the roots is not always pleasant and may involve trial in the form of chastisement because of disobedience and  a hard heart. The fertilizing is designed to save the disciple of Messiah from destruction. However, in the long term, when the disciple bears no fruit, the disciple must be dug up and separated from YHWH’s soil of Truth. If there was no intervention, the result would be the judgment and final destruction at the second death spoken of Revelation 21:8. (“Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“; “A Branch of the Vine through Trust“)

temple destructionHistory shows that the judging hand of YHWH fell upon the Jewish nation in the form of its destruction in 70 A.D. when Israel was scattered and the temple destroyed by Roman General Titus. The Jewish nation had not repented of the sins of legalism, self-righteousness, and ethnic pride. These sins had combined to bring about the murder of Yahshua [Jesus]. The Jews reaped what they sowed. They sowed death and reaped death. As disciples, each one of us needs to be certain of good spiritual health and the good fruit this brings in each disciple within YHWH’s spiritual body. As disciples, we are to bear the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Even more important, Yahshua [Jesus] also gave his disciples the commission to teach to all the nations in Matthew 28:19. This fruit is very important and often personally neglected by many that consider themselves dedicated Christians. Any disciple that lacks spiritual fruit will be fertilized and be given the opportunity to bear fruit before judgment is passed and the final destruction by fire is brought about. The end results are permanent and final. “For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
