In the Bible, angels often intervened in human situations. While these angels were seen in human form, they must have looked different for Jacob to have recognized them at once. The reason angels met Jacob is unclear. Because of an angelic visit, Jacob knew that YHWH was with him. The last time Jacob had seen his brother Esau, he was in danger of losing his life because he had stolen his brother’s birthright. (Genesis 27:41) Fearing the reunion and his own demise, Jacob had sent gifts and a messenger ahead of him as he hoped to seek Esau’s favor. Twenty years had passed and Jacob was frantic with fear. He decided to pray. Jacob made an important point by what he did. When he faced difficulties, he paused to pray. You may not recognize an angel if you saw him. However, you know the importance of prayer as a vital lifeline of faith and strength. Never fail to use the strength of your Father and empowerment through the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Holy Spirit].
What you say and don’t say as a disciple are important in reducing and controlling stress and demonic influence. Proper speech goes beyond saying the right words at the right time. Proper speech also involves controlling your personal desire to say what you should avoid. An untamed tongue is likely to include gossip, putting others down, unjust and unfair criticism, manipulation, false teaching, exaggeration, excessive complaints, lying and flattery. Before you speak, ask whether what you are about to say is true. Is what you want to say necessary or beneficial? Is what you want to say kind or useful?
James compared the damage the tongue can do to a raging fire. Real fire often does terrible damage and the tongue is no less destructive. Satan uses the mind and tongue to divide people and pit them against one another. Dividing with “idle and hateful words” are damaging because those words spread destruction quickly. Stress is both the cause and result of destructive behavior, even within YHWH’s body of faithful disciples. What is spoken cannot be truly retracted. The power of unwise words often lingers long after the passion of those words has passed. What has taken years to build can be destroyed in mere minutes. If no human can truly control the tongue, why should you try? Perfect control is not required for great results. Perfect control is not required for you to accomplish YHWH’s Will. Verbal damage can be easily reduced by employing Biblical principles and using more careful thinking. A genuine disciple is not fighting the fire of the tongue alone and in personal strength. YHWH promised His Holy Spirit to His people. If you are one of His people, you have the power of His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will give you increasing power to monitor and halt what you start to say. The Holy Spirit is your counselor for clearer thought. When you are offended, the Spirit will remind you of the wisdom of scripture and His love, if you have taken the time to put His Word in your heart. This will temper and change the words that you use.
Contradictory speech is often very puzzling. At the moment, the words seem right and might even seem pleasing to your Heavenly Father. At other times, words are clearly destructive and violent. Only you truly know which speech pattern truly reflects your true identity. Satan is in a battle for your mind. The tongue, as an expression of your mind, gives you a personal picture of your basic human nature. The Bible reinforces that you are made in the image of Elohim [‘God’, YHWH], yet every man and woman has fallen into sin beyond what is generally understood. Imperfection is a difficult concept because it is all that human beings know. When the Holy Spirit purifies the heart, words come out that please your Father. Wisdom from YHWH always shows itself through fruits of the Spirit. True spiritual wisdom is measured by the display of a person’s character. Your words bear good fruit much like a tree. You can elevate your wisdom with your behavior. The wisdom of righteousness leads to peace. Careful loving speech and wise words are seeds of peace. YHWH loves peacemakers. (Matthew 5:9)
James 1:5 reveals that knowledge is the ability to make wise decisions in difficult circumstances. YHWH wants to generously supply all of your needs. Prayer is your line of communication. There is no need to grope around and stumble through life. YHWH supplies all the answers that His people need and wants to guide your choices. Righteous wisdom means discernment and is centered in respect for YHWH. That respect leads to righteous living, fostered by the ability to distinguish right and wrong by Biblical standards. YHWH is willing to give you wisdom. Are you willing to receive that wisdom? Self-centered persons are unable to fully grasp or receive anything YHWH has for them. YHWH wants to be the center of your life. This involves learning His Word and looking to obey Him. To believe and not doubt means not only believing in the existence of Elohim, but believing when you pray. Critical attitudes must be cast aside as you approach Him in effective life-changing prayer.
Being a son of YHWH does not automatically grant you every thoughtless or selfish request. You must have confidence that your Father will align your personal desires with His purposes. A mind that wavers is not completely convinced in the Ways of YHWH. To many people, Biblical advice holds no more power than human advice. These same people always use the option to disobey or mix scripture with worldly wisdom. Confused Christians often vacillate between allegiance and subjective feelings based on circumstances and forget to trust YHWH. Since you trust your Father, you can count on Him to stabilize wavering and doubt through His Holy Spirit. If you have been to the ocean and have seen the constant rolling of waves from the sea, you know how restless those waves are. The waves within you are subject to the forces of your mind and the peace of Elohim when you rest in Him. If you do not want to be tossed about, your reliance on the provisions of YHWH will stabilize your life. Pray to YHWH and allow His Holy Spirit to work in you and through you to impregnate you with trust and wisdom from above. YHWH has promised that He wants to give you the desires of your heart in accordance with His Will.
Yahshua [Jesus] asked Peter numerous times if he loved Him. He instructed Peter to feed His sheep. Peter has weaknesses and Yahshua [Jesus] knew that. He knew that Peter had a temper. He knew that Peter would deny Him. He knew that Peter tended to be impulsive. Peter had exercised prejudice against Gentiles. He also trusted in the basic character of Peter. All those qualities that Peter had, you have. Your Father knows this. Yet, he gave you a special commission to tell others and to feed His sheep. You have the same commission that faithful disciples of the first century had. Telling others the good news in your own personal way and Christian walk despite your flaws is exactly what your Heavenly Father intends.
