Disciple: The Act of Being a Watchman

two watchmen

by John Greene

“And the Word of YAHWEH was to me, saying, ‘Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them: When I bring the sword on it, on a land, and take one man from the people of the land, their borders, and set him for a watchman to them, and when he sees the sword coming on the land, and he blows the ram’s horn and warns the people, and the hearer hearing the sound of the ram’s horn, and does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him; his blood shall be on his own head. He heard the sound of the ram’s horn and took no warning; his blood shall be on himself. But he who took warning, he shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the ram’s horn, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes a soul from them, he is taken in his iniquity. But I will require his blood from the watchman’s hand.'” – Ezekiel 33:1-6, HRB

What is our purpose as Christians, as disciples of the Messiah? Ezekiel defines Elohim’s [‘God’, YHWH] people as watchmen.

“And you, son of man, I gave you as a watchman to the house of Israel. And you shall hear the Word from My mouth and warn them from Me. When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked one, surely, you shall die!’ And you do not speak to warn the wicked one from his way, that wicked one shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood from your hand.” – Ezekiel 33:7-8

cheap-graceEzekiel 33 gives a direct example of what obedience is. A lot of time has passed since Yahshua [Jesus] gave His life as a sacrifice. Religion has diluted what Yahshua [Jesus] gave His life for. The truth has been so diluted that many Christians have decided that the grace of their Heavenly Father means that obedience is not required. But does YHWH’s grace really equal optional obedience? Does grace really mean lack of respect? (“Disciples of Messiah: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “Your Purpose in the Body of Messiah“; “Redeemed Through Obedience & Faith“)

Certain Christians have redefined themselves as once saved and saved forever without any need to return their Heavenly Father’s love. The topic of obedience is clearly presented in the ‘New Covenant’ and the importance of obedience cannot be understated. It is impossible to be included in the ranks of the loyal remnant if obedience is not part of a disciple’s life. Yahshua [Jesus] living on earth was our example. (Hebrews 10:9; John 5:30; Philippians 2:8; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“; “A Branch of the Vine through Trust“)

Matthew 7:21 illustrates this clearly in the words of Yahshua [Jesus]: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” (John 14:15, 21-24) Many people call the Messiah – ‘Lord.’  Yet, that is proof of nothing. Anyone that loves Yahshua [Jesus] or the Heavenly Father will keep His words. Disobedience is a sign that a Christian lacks love. (John 15:10; “Abiding in Trust“; “Real Love“)

broken-faithObedience to the real teaching of the Bible has become alien in the teaching of many churches and among myriads of professed Christians. This is in spite of the fact that even the disciples taught the necessity of trustful obedience. “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, ‘We ought to obey Yahweh rather than men.'” -Acts 5:29, WoY

His obedient children are His witnesses. (Acts 5:32; 1 Peter 1:14, 15; 1 Peter 1:22)

“through whom we have received favor and office of the emissary for belief-obedience among all the nations on behalf of His Name” – Romans 1:5, ISR98

“For think this within you, which mind was also in Messiah Yahshua, who existed in the very form of Elohim, thought it not robbery to be the equal with Elohim, but emptied Himself, taking the image of a servant, having become in the image of the sons of men and being found in form like a man, He humbled Himself, having become obedient until death, even the death of a torture stake.” – Philippians 2:5-8, HRB (2 Corinthians 5:15)

“Was not our father Abraham justified by his deeds, offering up his son Isaac on the altar? You see how faith helped with his deeds; and how by his deeds the faith was made perfect [complete].” – James 2:21-22, HRB

If that truth isn’t direct enough, 1 John 2:4 reveals: “The one saying, I have known Him, and not keeping His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in that one.” (HRB)

“By this we know that we love the children of YAHWEH: When we love YAHWEH and keep His commandments.” – 1 John 5:2, HRB (1 John 3:18-22)

“And coming up Yahshua talked with them, saying, All authority in Heaven and on earth was given to Me. Then having gone, disciple all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the completion of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20, HRB

bible-trust-YHWH-1As disciples of Messiah, we have been given life-saving instructions, among them preaching the good news message to the nations. However, many professed Christians choose to do nothing or live their life no differently than the rest of the world. Instead, they choose to have someone else do all the work or “hire it out” through their preacher. This shows a lack of love and appreciation for Elohim’s Word on all fronts. Our purpose is discernment through accurate knowledge and obedience in our personal belief as well as proclaiming that truth in whatever way we can and wherever we are. While each of us is very imperfect, obedience is not optional. This isn’t as hard when you actually believe what you say and realize the importance of your work at hand, even as you abide in the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit]. That is the key! (“Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“; “A Pattern of Prayer“; “Which Shepherd Do You Believe?“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
