When considering the Bible and sexual behavior, it can be easy to become confused by all of the details, especially when you are listening to the world. Nowhere is the confusion regarding sexuality more apparent than when conversing on the internet among those that profess Christianity. The Bible is seen by many as complex with many rules. The Bible is not complex, but religion can seek to make faith complex, polluting the waters of truth. The world has strongly crept into the lives of multitudes of Christians. Pastors and church leaders are no exception. The matter of sexual behavior in scripture is actually very simple when you consider the baseline of sex in human conduct which lies firmly grounded within marriage and the human family. (“The Antichrist & the War on Reality“; “Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“)
What is your Heavenly Father’s Will concerning human sexuality? That Will was demonstrated originally in the creation of the first human beings: “And Elohim created the man in His own image; in the image of Elohim He created him. He created them male and female.” (Genesis 1:27, HRB). YHWH’s decision to create a female counterpart to the male was not an accident. The intimate fellowship of husband and wife met these needs:
1. the human race was to be perpetuated through sexual union (Genesis 1:28);
2. “It’s not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18); and
3. a helper suitable for Adam was needed (Genesis 2:18,20);
The Bible continues in this same understanding (Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 7:2). The woman was:
1. the divine antidote to Adam’s loneliness;
2. a helper fit for him; and
3. the means for the propagation of the human race.
Not long after YHWH pronounced this arrangement as “very good”, (Genesis 1:31) man began to tamper with divine Will, even altering YHWH’s original intentions concerning human sexuality. The invention of polygamy was introduced by Lamech. (Genesis 4:19) Elohim [‘God’, YHWH] could have created two women for Adam, but He did not. He created one man for one woman for life. That is YHWH’s divine decision. Since then, mankind has sought to alter life to fit his or her own desires. Today, many reject YHWH’s Will as old fashioned and barbaric in favor of more enlightened attitudes. They confuse the foolishness of the world for the wisdom of YHWH. (“Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)
Porneia is absolutely simple to understand. Sex outside of marriage is Biblically prohibited. To YHWH, SEX IS MARRIAGE!! Therefore, porneia is any kind of sex outside of a marriage agreement between a man, the husband, and a woman, the wife. Sex outside of marriage is spiritual perversion, a rebellion to YHWH’s Word and Will. The Jewish law went into great detail to spell this out, but we don’t need to do this for the purposes of conducting ourselves in the righteousness of YHWH. Some in the world seek to blur the lines with argument. They seek argue about what immoral conduct is even though this is well defined by scripture. As their first line of argument, they want you to believe that anything “done in love” is perfectly acceptable. Once they have done this, they will be happy to further redefine everything else as well. (“Sex is Marriage“)
There are two ways that the Greek word “porneia” is translated in scripture. Many older Bible translations often translate porneia as “fornication,” and newer translations often translate porneia as “sexual immorality.” The Greek Lexicon by Thayer & Smith defines porneia as “illicit sexual intercourse.” Scripture is not pointing at some generalized idea of immorality. The Greek Lexicon defines porneia to include adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals, sexual intercourse with close relatives (Leviticus 18), or sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman (Mark. 10:11-12). Even our own dictionaries define adultery as “voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a partner other than the spouse.” Marriage has been defined since the beginnings of mankind as the union between a husband and wife. None of this information is new. (“Romantic Attachments: Sin & Righteousness“; “Understanding Sin“)
The modern world is in a period of upheaval, seeking to redefine and blur the lines as an excuse to do what is pleasurable or desirable for any number of reasons. In the world, for example, it is commonly held that casual extramarital sex between consenting adults is acceptable. It is commonly held that often nobody gets hurt by this conduct. It is often perceived that no ill occurs from such a relationship. Despite the tendencies of rebellious mankind, science has discovered that premarital and extramarital sex is every bit as dangerous as a blood transfusion. This perversion of YHWH’s instructions has great potential fallout, including emotional baggage coupled with the blight of spiritual and demonic corruption. Once exchanged, bodily fluids cannot be un-exchanged! The damaging spiritual component in immoral sex is very real. The results of coital exchange cannot be entirely undone in the physical world that we live in now. The implications to the sexual are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, whether you as a person recognize the effects or not. Sin is much the same way with far reaching potential effects, many of them unknown or unrecognized to man. All sin damages. All sin offends YHWH because sin is rebellion against Him, against His way of life and against what He wants for you. Man and woman have deceived themselves into believing all manner of rebellions against Elohim [‘God’]. How much easier when you resist the temptation and stay on the right track! (2 Samuel 11-13; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “The Struggle for Purity of Heart“; “Pursue Righteousness“; “The Wheels of Ezekiel“)
Perhaps there is no uprising more demonstrative in our time of deception than the fight for homosexuality. By “homosexuality,” we mean the “sexual orientation” in a person which develops “romantic attachments” with another person of the same gender. While this definition identifies the focus of this human identity crisis, the root sin that is being actively practiced does not make it a greater sin in Bible text. It is no different than other sins that by the admission of scripture will not allow the inheritance of YHWH’s Kingdom. (“Homosexuality: Sex and Personal Identity Crisis“; “Deception: The Plague of Love Detachment“)
“Or do you not know that unjust ones will not inherit the kingdom of YAHWEH? Do not be led astray, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the corrupt, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous ones, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists shall inherit the kingdom of YAHWEH. And some of you were these things, but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Master Yahshua, and in the Spirit of our Elohim.” – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, HRB
“Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, impurity, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, witchcraft, enmity, fighting, jealousies, anger, rivalries, stubbornness, divisions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and things like these; of which I tell you beforehand, as I also said before, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of YAHWEH.” – Galatians 5:19-21, HRB
“For you should know this, that no one guilty of fornication, or unclean person, or a covetous one, who is an idolater, has no inheritance in the kingdom of Messiah and of YAHWEH. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for through these things the wrath of YAHWEH comes on the sons of disobedience. Then do not become partakers with them;” – Ephesians 5:5-7, HRB
What scripture really points to is the hardening of the human heart, the opposite of purity of heart. No immoral, impure or greedy person has an inheritance through Messiah and Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit]. Why? They are idolators that have put self and things above their Father. This is a global syndrome that seeks to affect every man, woman and child that lives on the planet. It seeks to destroy you now and eternally. (“The Idolatry Factor“; “Video: What is Idolatry?“)
The “new” world reasoning seeks to limit immoral conduct and perversion in scripture to temple worship. However, such a thing is impossible to argue, since all idolatry is against the face of YHWH, Elohim of Hosts.
“Because of this, YAHWEH gave them up to dishonorable passions, for even their females changed the natural use of their sex to that contrary to nature. And so also their males forsook the use of females, which is natural, and burned with lust toward one another, male with male, they did what is shameful, and received in themselves the just recompense of their error. And as they did not determine within themselves to know Elohim, YAHWEH has given them over to a vain mind; that they might do what they ought not” – Romans 1:26-28, HRB
When a person continues to follow a life course because of a depraved heart or a reprobate mind, YHWH must allow free will to be exercised in accord with His promise. The disciple of Messiah must be willing to agree with YHWH. You can’t debate relationship or play the immunity card. The same provisions apply to all of YHWH’s people and to the world. There are only two kingdoms. You give yourself to one or the other. (“Strongholds & the Armor of YHWH“; “Breaking Free of Dirty Rags“; “How YHWH Marks His People“)
The Bible says that Elohim is love rather than love is Elohim. There is a big difference in the meaning. The world, with its shallowness and selfishness, seeks to express love by an alternate standard of love. The idea of love in the English language covers virtually all affection from friendship to marriage to sex and everything in between. In this way, the understanding of love has been lost in a slush of misunderstanding and deception. John explains the Father that creates does so because He loves. (John 3:16; 1 John 3:17, 4:8-9; Galatians 2:20; Romans 5:8) You are free to choose along with the cost of that choice. YHWH wants a loving response in return and made that response possible through His Son. His love does not make YHWH lax and permissive. YHWH’s love is not an excuse for inaction or pretense. When you truly trust in Messiah, you will not pay the penalty for sin. (1 Peter 2:24; Romans 5:18)
Can quantity be mistaken for quality? YHWH isn’t telling you how many people to love, but how much to love the people you already know and meet first. When you become a disciple of the Messiah you receive the Holy Spirit if you don’t reject or neglect Him. The Holy Spirit is Elohim’s presence and Counsel in your life. Many Christians are baptized without knowing how YHWH works through the Holy Spirit. You need to know about Him and how He works. You need to be living in Elohim’s Will. When you follow the Way, this is proof that you really belong to Him, as well as part of a life process that abides in you. You are set apart from the world to your Elohim and His righteousness. The Holy Spirit in you gives you the power to love and live through righteous Counsel. (Romans 5:5; 8:9, 2 Corinthians 1:22, “Consenting to Fables of Men“)
What people say must be tested and examined with the Word of Truth in the Bible to qualify as Elohim’s righteousness. Do the words match with Bible truth? Is what is being said aligned with commitment to the body of Messiah and demonstrated by lifestyle? (1 John 3:23, 24) Since the world is filled with voices claiming to speak for ‘God,’ give the voices that seek your agreement the test of Truth. Be certain the voices meet the test of scripture. Personal laziness and apathy in knowing Bible truth keeps many professed Christians from using discernment where scripture or Spirit is concerned. (“Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “YHWH’s Threshing Floor“)
Many ideas presented sound good and may be presented as Christian, but do not meet the truth of scripture. The Bible is supposed to be the whole extent of Christianity. A divine message is consistent with Bible teaching and context. This involves understanding the real meaning of scripture through the study of the original text.
A Bible translation cannot always be trusted for the finest nuances of understanding. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-12) Seek a pure heart as you cast aside sin. Casting aside repeated sin as a result of conditioned behaviors is the beginning of a face-to-face relationship with Yahshua [Jesus]. Yahshua [Jesus] never promised that obedience would be effortless. The willingness to put repeated sin aside in service to Messiah is no burden or real hurdle to those that love Him. When the load becomes heavy, you can trust your Father and the Holy Spirit to help you bear the load. (Matthew 11:28-30) Trusting in YHWH to help you to bear your load is part of the new man in Messiah.
