“And on the morrow, they going out from Bethany, He hungered. And He saw a certain fig tree from afar that had leaves on it. And He came towards it to see if he could find anything on it. And when He arrived, He did not find anything on it except leaves. For the time of figs had not yet arrived. And answering, Yahshua said to it, Let no one eat fruit of you any more forever. And His disciples heard….”
“And passing along early, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. And remembering, Simon Peter said to Him, ‘Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.'” (Mark 11:12-14, 20-21)
Why did Yahshua [Jesus] curse the fig tree when the season for bearing figs wasn’t the physical reality or expectation? He wasn’t really expecting to eat a fig on the spot. Figs normally grow as the leaves fill out. As Yahshua [Jesus] examined the tree, He could see that this tree would not bear any fruit. The fig tree that He approached had plenty of leaves, covering up the fact that figs weren’t really present, nor would they be. The tree was useless, simply a showy thing. Simply put, YHWH’s people are expected to bear fruit, which will be in evidence. In the same light, followers or disciples of Messiah are expected to bear fruit. (“Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“; “Consenting to Fables of Men“)
The Jewish leadership of the time were not producing fruit for YHWH’s Kingdom. They had become a religion of dead ritual and tradition, without trust in their Heavenly Father. They were rejecting the Word of YHWH for comfortable ritual and their own laws, the idolatry of their own hearts. They disregarded the presence of YHWH and need of the people to pray in the temple. In this way, they were acting as bad shepherds. (Ezekiel 34) Instead, the Jewish priests produced the work of the flesh for their own convenience and profit. In response to this, Messiah cleared out the Temple as He applied the parable in real life. A disciple is not really a disciple unless he or she is actively bearing fruit of personal trust, grounded from the Word of Elohim [YHWH, ‘God’]. The Word of YHWH does not consist of man-made rules, traditions or rituals. What the world calls ‘faith’ has potential, but without works and evidence of trust in the proper Source combined with real fruit, that system of ‘faith’ is dead.
“You believe that Elohim is one. You do well. The demons also believe – and shudder! But do you wish to know, O foolish man, that the belief without the works is dead? Was not Abraham our father declared right by works when he offered Yitsḥaq [Isaac] his son on the altar?” – James 2:19-22, ISR98
Charismatic, almost magical preaching is not fruit of YHWH, His Son or the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit]. Persuasive, seductive words are not in the mouth of YHWH or His Word. His Word isn’t simply about entertainment, titillation or excitement. It isn’t about theme parks or recreational religion. His Word isn’t about prospering business with a stamp of Bible-approval on it. Instead, the foundation of truth through salvation and deliverance are presented to those that will listen and depart from the ways of darkness, the flesh, from meaningless rituals and from the seductive enticing words of false prophets that dress up the Word of Elohim for their own profit and benefit.
“And my word and my preaching was not in enticing words of human wisdom, but with the demonstration of the Spirit, and with power; that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of YAHWEH.” – 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, HRB
What kind of Word are you following? Are you following a new slick gospel of technology and entertainment? Are you following a man with a golden voice? Are you following a dead gospel of ignorance and death founded in the traditions of man or nationalism? Are you following a gospel without works? Do you exercise discernment and allow spiritual maturity to grow within you? Are you bearing personal fruit or will you force the hand of Yahshua [Jesus]? Who are you listening to? Are you bearing fruit or simply pretending by paying someone else to do this for you as you live your life with little regard for the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. All disciples, all Elohim’s people are priests of His Word. (Revelation 1:6; 5:10) This means that you will bear fruit or like the fig tree, that fruit will be in evidence. (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22; 1 Corinthians 12:10; Ephesians 4:14; 5:1-2)
