Bible Truth: What is a Christian?

by John and Ruth Greene

Two Kingdoms bookScripture is clear. Every person is captive to a kingdom. There are two kingdoms. Either the Christian [a disciple of Messiah] is captive to the kingdom of darkness or the kingdom of light, YHWH’s Kingdom. A Christian can only be captive to YHWH and expect to reside with Him. In Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul admonishes the Ephesian assembly to be worthy to the invitation of their calling. This invitation is not something that is somehow unique to pastors, bishops, reverends or all manner of professed leadership. (“Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “The Struggle of Kingdoms Involves You“; “Leadership & Highly Effective People“)

hand-outThe invitation to Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah is a personal one on one walk for each and every disciple. The fruit of this invitation is consistence in humility, meekness, being long-suffering and in exhibiting brotherly love. This fruit is generally misunderstood by the world as sappy spineless weakness. The Greek word that is translated ‘meekness’ does not suggest weakness, but stresses strength brought under control. The ancient Greeks employed the term to describe a wild horse tamed to the bridle. In Psalm 37:1, the Hebrew language is even stronger, (the word, yarash) an active word that means to seize or grasp. Disciples are to be tamed by the Word, moving personal resources into YHWH’s service by force through active intent. Why? YHWH is the owner of the earth. (Psalm 24:1) Those that obey Yahshua [Jesus] become Elohim’s [God’s] children and joint heirs, king and priests with Messiah. (Romans 8:17; Galatians 3:27; Hebrews 5:9) As Elohim’s sons and daughters, He eagerly supplies all our needs. (Philippians 4:19; Ephesians 5:5: Acts 20:32; John 3:3-5; Colossians 1:13; “Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “YHWH’s Prayer Shawl of Protection“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“)

Do people really know or understand what they have done when they claim to have accepted Yahshua [Jesus] as their Savior? They need to know that they must be humble enough to accept the instruction of YHWH over their own opinions, gentle and patient in His love as they make an effort to keep spiritual unity in peace. Obviously, professed Christianity has fallen far short of this since Yahshua [Jesus] gave Himself in sacrifice. Divergent opinion, rebellion and control represent the walk of man closer than any sense of unity. The Apostle Paul reminds first-century disciples that there is one body and one spirit in Messiah. He stresses One Elohim, One belief, One baptism. How far Christianity has walked from the unity that the original disciples actively sought to share! (“Foundation of Salvation“; “YHWH is Your Shield and Salvation“; “Roots of Salvation“)

walk-awayToday, so many Christians simply walk away in ignorance and total lack of appreciation of what Messiah’s invitation means for them. Even many church leaders walk in their own ways over what YHWH’s Word says in scripture. Instead of seeking Bible truth, multitudes seek self, philosophy, opinion and life experience. After all, many reason that truth is relative and so reject the provision of Messiah altogether. To these, man’s viewpoint is king, even while the Bible indicates that YHWH is over all. To these, building their own religious claim is more important than deed or loving obedience, just like the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. YHWH needs people that are willing to return His love and act on that with others. So today, in a sense, through His promise, YHWH must depend on seekers of truth to reveal the rampant deception within the world and much of Christianity. (“Which Shepherd Do You Believe?“; “The False Shepherd and the True Shepherd“; “Consenting to Fables of Men“; “Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“)

Grace has been given as appointed by Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. That grace continually extends to all for their personal decision. That personal decision is part of the proof that YHWH loves you. That grace doesn’t guarantee that when a person dedicates life to Messiah, they must understand that their life belongs to Him. YHWH expects you to have trust to achieve anything in your life, trust in Him. He gave everyone a kernel of trust. Using that trust is not an option, but a requirement to begin to receive what He really has for you. (“The Grace of YHWH’s Vineyard“; “Cultivating YHWH’s Grace as You Seek Truth“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“)

baptism-of-trust-Holy-SpiritBaptism is a symbol of dedication and continues just like walking in faith. Being born again in the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit] requires active and active involvement as well. Living in faith is a process, a journey rather than a single event. YHWH is the Father in authority over the universe, yet the focus is on your decision with salvation through Messiah with His sacrifice for your sins along with your willingness to walk away from the past sin and iniquity in repentance. (“The Real Power Behind Baptism“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“; “Understanding Sin“)

“My Father gave me a gift. All my sins were released and I could be a witness for him: an evangelist, songwriter, author, and gospel singer. These are works of service to my Father for the upbuilding of the body of Messiah, even my faith. I realized the importance of unity with my Savior. In that walk, I must continue in faith despite circumstances that I face. My goal and desire is to walk in the knowledge that I have to become more mature in spirit to obtain the full measure of Yahshua [Jesus] in my life. By faith and by conduct, I recognize that I am no longer an infant, tossed about and blown here and there by every opinion of man. The idea is to ‘grow up’ where Elohim is concerned, not to be dependent on man, but Elohim through love in Messiah.” (Ruth Greene)

justice of man - rule of lawSpiritual maturity points out that Elohim’s children should insist on living through YHWH instead of through the means of the world. Darkened thinking separates people from the light of YHWH because of ignorance, hardening of the heart, philosophies and deceptive reasoning. The Apostle Paul says that giving self to sensuality and the desire for more is impurity. (“Purity Starts Inside: A Lesson Through the Ages“; “Living in an Apostate World“; “Abiding With YHWH in Quiet Places“)

light of the lampThe Bible says that people should be able to see the difference between Christians and non-Christians. Lifestyle and life fruit is the measure, living as Christians in the light. Discerning the gospel is the real key to maturity in living ‘The Way.’ As disciples of Messiah, we are commanded to leave the old man and life of sin behind. Since living as a Christian is a process, not an event, disciples are designed to have the benefit of a new nature. Even so, a new disciple doesn’t automatically think like a new man or woman. The old ways of the old man still hold the immature Christian. The new man in Messiah has righteous spiritual attitudes and righteous thinking outlined in the Bible as a daily goal. By allowing the Holy Spirit and YHWH’s Word to change you, the new man in Messiah changes life and perspective as well as allowing the disciple to be more like the example of Yahshua [Jesus]. (“Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“; “Renewing Your Mind“)

To put on the new self is be created like YHWH, in true righteousness, set apart to Him. The Apostle Paul echoes the words of Yahshua [Jesus] about cutting off falsehood, speaking truth to others as members of the same body. The Bible proclaims His people as One people under Him. This is evidenced by the fruit of His people rather than any religious denomination or cultural views. (“Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“; “Culture: Prompting Falsehood Through the Lie“)

practical lifeThe fruit each person bears is the evidence of the heart, which is exactly what YHWH looks at. Unity and absence of conflict must rule among YHWH’s people and His people bear the fruit of righteous conduct, not legalism or human rule making, but obeying scripture and focusing that on self while continually insuring to obliterate things like: shame, brawling, bitterness, slander, anger, rage and malice of all kinds. Ephesians 4 recommends no unwholesome speech or idle speech, but all speech for building others up is to benefit others that will listen. People can grieve the Holy Spirit through lifestyle. (“Refining Your Heart“; “Holy Spirit 101“; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“)

Obscene speech, idle talk, negative attitudes work against the Spirit of YHWH. Lifestyle is more than the way a person lives, but attitudes, demeanor, expectations and life processes that embodies life. Do you have acts of love or hatred? Do you revel in acts of selfishness or generosity? Within each person is a sealed guarantee that says that you and I belong to the Most High and can be guided by the Holy Spirit. Whether you choose to use that guarantee or reject it is up to you because you were given that choice. (“Attitude and the Disciple of Messiah“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “The Stronghold of Anger“; “Is Your Forgiveness Real?“)

family fighting boyBy refusing to indulge in negativity and infighting, YHWH’s people do not give Satan a foothold. You can clearly see how such conduct has continually fanned the flames of disagreement within professed Christianity and this is how corruption has crept into true faith over the last two thousand years. Scripture recommends that no conflict should go unresolved at the end of each day so that strongholds will not set in among His people. As disciples of the Messiah, we must involve ourselves in doing something useful to share with those in need. What we do on earth needs to benefit others and further Elohim’s purpose, which is to spread Bible truth. (“Strongholds & the Armor of YHWH“)

Remember the foundation of faith which involves forgiveness. YHWH doesn’t forgive because of anything you or I do, but because of His love and instruction. He expects that we forgive others as we come to understand his mercy, as part of His commands and His law. Because we have been forgiven, we are to forgive others. Those that are unwilling to forgive cannot be one through the Messiah or part of His Kingdom. Since YHWH set out His expectations, as His people, we must be willing to obey to the best of our knowledge and ability. That is discipleship. That is what a Christian is. (“Roots of Salvation“; “Discipleship is Renewal“)

———————————————-
“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
