Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World

boat-galilee-300x225For a certainty, Yahshua [Jesus] said that the Pharisees and Sadducees were hypocrites, while referring to their ‘leaven.’ (Matthew 16:5-12; Mark 8:14-21; Luke 11:51-12:1-3) This yeast or leaven is commonly attributed to false teaching or reducing the Word to man made ritual and rules. Even today, this kind of spiritual leaven is prevalent. As disciples of the Messiah, we want to avoid hypocrisy ourselves; that is, saying one thing and doing another – substitution. When considering the properties of leaven, another avenue of Christian conversation typically ensues about what yeast or leaven is and how this relates to human characteristics. The truth is actually much simpler than this. (“Woes of the Hypocrites“; “Pursue Righteousness“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “YHWH’s Prayer Shawl of Protection“)

“And His disciples coming to the other side, they forgot to take loaves. And Yahshua [Jesus] said to them, ‘Watch and take heed from the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’” – Matthew 16:5-6

Because it was time to eat, the disciples misunderstood the meaning of the statement made by their Master. They feared because they didn’t have any bread with them, even though they had just come away from a grand witness to thousands. Yahshua [Jesus] recalled the provision that YHWH had provided through feeding 5000 people with five loaves. The disciples had witnessed this event and others; they still feared.

Earlier in Matthew 16, the Pharisees and Sadducees asked Yahshua [Jesus] for a sign from heaven. He told them a very simple truth. They knew how to interpret the weather, but their near-sightedness and hardened hearts would not allow them to see the signs of the times. He cut them off by saying that a wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign. He knew that because of hardened hearts, the Pharisees and Sadducees would never believe, regardless of what signs came from heaven or what happened in the time of the end. The same is true of hardened hearts today. Hardened hearts seek signs and wonders through the vanity of their own unbelief. (“The Need to Keep Spiritually Clean“; “What Is Washing By The Word?“; “Condemnation, Dogs & Hogs“)

look-to-GodYahshua [Jesus] chided His disciples for their lack of belief, their unbelief. Yes, He was telling them to avoid the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees, but His comment was more important than that. Deception comes from many places. It springs from others, either through idle conversation, or through the wisdom of man. It also springs from the heart and mind of each person in the form of unbelief. Unbelief is the opposite of belief, but much more insidious. Like a small amount of yeast or leaven, it takes only a small amount of contamination to completely destroy belief or faith. Because of this, there is great danger in unbelief. It is a sign, not only of spiritual leaven and contamination, but of a hardened heart, resulting in a lack of trust to take necessary action. (“Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“; “Deceptions of Ages: How People are Deceived“; “Life Healing and Belief“)

That is why Yahshua [Jesus] could say:

“Enter in through the narrow gate. Because wide is the gate and spacious the road, put to death through destruction, and many, by their reason, agree to enter. For narrow is the gate and troublesome is the road, the one that leads to life, and few agree to obtain it.” – Matthew 7:13-14, direct translation

Many that claim faith have hardened to the messages from Messiah. Hardened hearts resulting from deception, distraction and teachings of man endanger the lives of all disciples. Most have stopped seeking and instead have found their comfort zone of thinking and lifestyle. (“Which Shepherd Do You Believe?“; “The False Shepherd and the True Shepherd“; “Breaking the Hold of Stress“)

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” – Luke 11:9, NKJV

trial-hardened-heartHardened hearts don’t ask except for self-interest and personal need. Hardened hearts don’t seek and as a result, they don’t find. Hardened hearts don’t actively search for YHWH’s truth, so they don’t find it, nor can they share it. Hardened hearts, if they are open, are open only to those around them that are in general agreement. Hardened hearts seek only self and the comfort that comes from selfish-interest and pleasant self-distraction. They do not seek the to make YHWH’s Word their own. Instead, the hard-hearted seek their own personal truth in a world that rails against truth in search of self-interest. (“Hardened Hearts: Strengthening the Brotherhood in Messiah“; “Building a Counterfeit Kingdom“; “YHWH’s Threshing Floor“; “The Wheels of Ezekiel“)

leaven-breadAll of this results in unbelief, the leaven and idolatry of the world. This leaven ignores Bible truth in favor of comfort and in appeasing others. Many of the Pharisees and Sadducees were blind to their hypocrisy. Others were more malevolent, fooling others for their own interests. The same is true in belief today. The deception, even in Christian religion is great. The world is full of it. Christian disciples must cast off the imaginations of Satan that seek precedence over YHWH’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit] (“The Unpardonable Sin“; “The Abomination That Causes Desolation“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“; “Disciple of Messiah: Wavering Between Two Opinions“)

Because we walk in the flesh, we do not serve according to the flesh. For the tools of our service in warfare are not fleshly, but powerful through Elohim to the destruction of strongholds. Destroy imaginations and all high places that are exalted over the knowledge of Elohim and make captive every mind to obedience of the Messiah.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, direct translation

sumerian idolsMost of the world is full of its own religion and belief that is full of idolatry. It treasures hope, which is little more than wishful thinking of the world grounded in lack of belief. By simply listening to traditions, philosophies and distractions around you, you are subject to take on the idolatry of those around you. These are cultural icons, political ideas, philosophies and traditions: all these seek your obedience and bear the fruit of the world. Disciples are admonished to:

“Not that I already received or already have been perfected, but I press on, if I also may lay hold, inasmuch as I also was laid hold of by Messiah Yahshua. Brothers, I do not count myself to have reached the goal, but one thing I do, forgetting the things behind, and stretching forward to those things before, I press toward the goal to receive the prize of victory of the highest calling of YAHWEH in Messiah Yahshua.” – Philippians 3:12-14, HRB

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” – Ezekiel 36:26-27, NKJV

foundation-of-renewal-300Remember the dangers of unbelief and deception that run rampant in the world. The leaven of the world is unbelief. Allow YHWH to take your hardened heart and make it a heart of flesh, to renew your heart and mind every day so that you will stand firm as the need arises! (“Renewing Your Mind“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“; “Called to Have Confidence in Messiah“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
