My wife and I have learned the tremendous value of verbally putting on the entire armor of the Heavenly Father’s Kingdom as listed in Ephesians chapter six. Because of our shared experience, my wife is providing some assistance in the writing of this article. Everywhere we go to minister, whether in churches and home fellowship group settings, my wife exhorts (when given an opportunity) strongly to all that they would do well to verbally put on this divine armor that is made available to us from heavenly resources. She stresses that they should do this on a daily basis when going to work or facing a stressful situation elsewhere. This precious wife of mine does so very effectively! (“Breaking the Hold of Stress“; “Strongholds & the Armor of YHWH“)
In our personal daily walk in discipleship, we have discovered that when we do not spiritually cover ourselves, we frequently encounter additional hurtful and unpleasant words spoken against us. When we verbally put on the armor, of the Spirit, unpleasant words may be spoken, but the sting of those words does not have the same impact and we recover more easily from the spiritual battle. As a result of this discovery, we have pressed both our sons to do the same. (“Discipleship is Renewal“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“)
As a result of this consistent emphasis from us, our sons have disciplined themselves fairly well in this verbal practice. They have also discovered the benefits of YHWH’s spiritual armor. We have undoubtedly been spared a level of calamity and attacks because of employing this measure of obedience to the scriptures.
We believe in a daily implementation of obedience in this regard. Verbally putting on the divine armor of Elohim [‘God’] is based on the reading of Ephesians 6:14-17 as follows: “I put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, my loins girded with the belt buckled with truth, and my feet fitted with readiness of the gospel of the peace. I put in my hands the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith able to extinguish the fiery darts of the wicked one. This enables me to advance successfully into enemy territory with the needed protection, when necessary.”
We follow this with a personal adaptation of what is found in Isaiah 54:17 as follows: “No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper. Every tongue that rises up against me shall be refuted. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, as He has said. This applies to me because I have a servant-like attitude and I belong to HIM as HIS son (or daughter). My righteousness comes from the Messiah, who pleads my cause.” We also refer to Isaiah 59:19 with this personal adaptation: “When the enemy comes in like a flood toward me, the Spirit of the Most High will lift up a standard against him.” (“Overcoming Satanic Attack“; “How Satan Challenges You (A Personal Story)“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“)
There is power in speaking the Word of YHWH over yourself ! There is nothing else like it! We speak this armor over ourselves from the head down to the feet then placing the sword and the shield in our hands. There is tremendous value in repeating this day after day. It really does get into your spirit and makes you feel protected. It focuses your day on the authority of YHWH, a great way to start the day! When you do have someone speaking harshly to you, it greatly helps you to believe that the divine armor and weapons of the Almighty will put out the fire coming out of the mouth of your accuser or the emotional bully giving you a hard time. Your trust is manifested in reality. (“Strength to Overcome Any Challenge“; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“)
The emotional fire brewing against you may be the result of internal fear or the angst of the person speaking against you, and therefore, the root of it is not originally related to you at all. However, these fiery darts can deeply wound you just the same. With the confession of our mouths and hearts, we do recognize that fiery darts will be shot our way and tongues will rise up against us in spiritual battle. However, there will be a supernatural extinguishing of the fiery darts and the tongues rising up against us will be refuted. That knowledge settled in our minds and spirits does help us very much. There are times that we need help and we need it very quickly. Knowing that you have spoken these Word agreements over yourself helps you to keep from reacting in a manner that is inappropriate so that you can have a soft answer that will turn away from the hot anger that is before you at the moment. (“YHWH’s Faithful: Victory in Spiritual Battle“; “The Invisible War“)
You might say that what we use as a daily confession is too long; and therefore, it is too difficult to memorize. You might say that it is not necessary to verbalize this every this day. We would not respond to you with a contentious spirit if you were to say these things to our faces. We would simply pray for you to come to the understanding that we have been graciously helped to see by the opening of our spiritual eyes.
You may be concerned that focusing on scripture and making a verbal confession is too time consuming. You might reason that you are too busy getting ready to leave home for work and then driving there as quickly as possible. We believe that you will discover the opposite is true. We have been delighted to find that it did not take many days to get confession anchored in the mind and heart, committed to total recall. Until then, we wrote it down on index cards that we kept with us. Perhaps, this process was so fast because our motivation to do so was extremely high. Also, the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit] within you honors your attempt to have vivid recall of scripture. (“Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Knowing Where You Stand on YHWH’s Threshing Floor“)
Now that we have vivid recall of this confession of the mind and heart based upon these scriptural passages; it comes forth out of our lips without any strain or effort. It is simply a beautiful flow of Elohim’s Spirit and remarkably easy. It is powerful for edification. Furthermore, it takes but a few minutes to speak His Word into your life through this confession once you have it committed to memory. (“Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“)
It will surprise you how protected you will feel because of the comfort from HIS Word. Your Heavenly Father’s power is supernaturally amazing and always evident. It is one thing to see these scriptures in print and quite another matter to hear these same scriptures being spoken our of your own mouth.
You are designed by your Creator to give great attention to what comes of your mouth. In fact, Proverbs 15:4 reads: “
A wholesome (healing) tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it (the tongue) breaks the spirit.”
Verse 23 of the same 15th chapter of Proverbs reads:
“A man has joy by the answer of his mouth. And, a word spoken in due season, how good it is!!”
Proverbs 18:21 reads:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue. And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Karen likes to say that spiritual confession is not a spiritual mantra or a shrewd combination of magic words; rather, it is a matter of obedience to HIS Word and coming into absolute agreement with HIS Word that results in protection for your well-being. Karen has seen it work for her several times. She has a real need to see it work for her since she works for a lady that is very devoted to the Hindu faith. The office staff can become very emotionally “worked up” at times. She is right in the middle of a mission field every time she goes to work. This manner of confession with the Word has become a great comfort to her heart and helped her “get through” to the end of many work days. (“Redeemed Through Obedience & Faith“; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“)
It is important that we don’t react in a manner inconsistent with a victorious testimony in Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. For example, you can exacerbate a situation that you could easily defuse with the wisdom that Messiah gives you for that situation. The wording of Philippians 1:28 informs that when we are not terrified by our adversaries; it is a proof of our deliverance and it is a sign to them of their coming destruction unless they repent. It reads:
“and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from Elohim.”
Note the irony in this next verse about we being granted the privilege of suffering for HIS sake. Philippians 1:29 reads:
“For to you it has been granted on behalf of the Messiah, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.”
We have a privilege of growing in Messiah by graciously enduring the suffering incurred by following HIM. For even the Captain of our Salvation was made perfect by sufferings, as in Hebrews 2:10. HE was the Eternal Son, yet HE learned obedience by the things which HE suffered, as in Hebrews 5:8. Therefore, we need to keep the power and strength gained through personal suffering in mind as we are experiencing intense conflict caused by others. (“Are You an Effective Listener? Listening & Your Relationships“; “Serving for YHWH’s Glory“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“)
Paul points out in his writing that other saints are greatly encouraged and strengthened by viewing the successful walk of those enduring suffering for HIS sake. Paul declares that it is the reason that he has decided to remain alive even though it would be better for him to go on to be with the Messiah. Philippians 1:30 points out that the Philippians have now been able to manage the same conflicts of suffering that he himself has endured as they have already seen him being spiritually successful in trial. By verbalizing the putting on of your own divine armor, you can more easily manage through the fiery darts of suffering that are shot at you while being instilled with greater calm. (“Hardened Hearts: Strengthening the Brotherhood in Messiah“)
I have added other portions of scriptures to a confession that I speak over myself before I minister at other churches. I do want to share these with you even though they are not a part of the divine armor set. This is my personal adaptation of Second Corinthians 9:8: “And Elohim is able to make all grace abound toward me, so that I will have HIS all sufficiency in all things at all times; therefore, I may have an abundance for every good work.” I combine that with a personal adaptation of First Thessalonians 5:24: “Faithful is He who has called me and HE will do HIS part and cause me to do what needs to be done.”
Yet, another great personal adaptation is found in First Corinthians 1:5-9: “I am enriched in HIM in all my testimony and understanding even as the sweet testimony of the Messiah is confirmed in me so that I do not come short in any gift as I eagerly await the full revelation of the Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah in HIS body. He will also confirm me to the end so that I will be blameless unto the day of His Return. The Father, who has called me into the fellowship with HIS Son, is faithful to do these things.” (“YHWH First: Your Life Is Your Testimony“)
These word confessions that I speak over myself have fortified me in a tremendous way. It helps me to be prepared to be used by the Holy Spirit in any way that He chooses to use me. I have been asked many times to preach at the last possible moment without having any idea that I was to be the featured speaker that night. I know that I am protected by the divine armor word confessions that I have spoken over myself and I also know that I have been made ready by the One that I serve. (“Real Trust in YHWH and Caring for Brothers and Sisters“)
By the way, there has always been a tremendous grace supplied to me when I preach after being informed at the last possible minute that I was going to be doing so. It helps me to believe for divine insight to help me fulfill time sensitive deadlines at work, especially during the most stressful of times. I am grateful for the help that I feel, all based in speaking in personal agreement with scripture. In this way, I know that HE is truly helping me with whatever trial I might face.
There is an important truth that you must know about the armor of YHWH. We can see from Paul’s description of spiritual armor that there is no armor for the backside of the soldier in Messiah. There is no protection for you when you run away from conflicts. That is why my confession concepts from Second Corinthians 9:8, First Thessalonians 5:24, and First Corinthians 1:5-9 are so important. There is a reward and a shield for those who keep moving forward in active faith. (“Facing Adversity in Faith“; “YHWH is Your Shield and Salvation“; “YHWH’s Prayer Shawl of Protection“)
Finally, I declare myself to “be strong in the Father and in the power of HIS might” as in Ephesians 6:10 because of HIS keeping power (Second Timothy 4:18). I am connected to a prayer network of saints enabled by the Holy Spirit to pray in all seasons (Ephesians 6:18). Furthermore, I declare that effective utterance has been given to me that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mysteries of the Gospel of the Messiah (Ephesians 6:19). In addition, I declare that I am a grateful partaker of the Covenant promises from the YHWH Almighty, to put HIS words in my mouth with the assurance that those words will never depart from me from this time and forevermore, as in Isaiah 59:21. (“Called to Have Confidence in Messiah“)
We trust that you will find yourself being helped greatly as you commit to memory these Word agreements for verbalizing HIS divine armor that is designed to protect you during spiritual warfare. You will experience being able to verbalize these confessions without having to to struggle to “think them through.” We sincerely believe that you will find them to be a tremendous blessing to your well-being and stability.
What do you do if you realize on a particular day that you have forgotten to verbally put on the whole armor of YHWH? We have had that happen to us (not as often now since we have been convinced of its importance). What did we do? We simply asked our Father to distract the person manifesting anger with a telephone call or a type of diversion that will give us time to verbally put on our armor or reaffirm our position in Messiah. When that person comes back to speak with us, it is amazing how the their tone has changed to a softer nature. The situation that used to surround us can be more easily resolved because of trust. (“A Branch of the Vine through Trust“)
PRAYER: “Heavenly Father, we cherish the greatness of YOUR Word to us as we endeavor to speak it faithfully over ourselves on a daily basis. Help us to more fully understand the protection that YOU have provided for us as we go into spiritual warfare under YOUR leadership. Help us to learn by the directions of the Holy Spirit to stay within the protections provided for us. Help us to continue progressing forward in our walk without fear or drawing back. This we pray in the Name of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah.”
