Giving to Others While Trusting in YHWH for Your Needs

by John Greene

giving-life-in-trustWithin the brotherhood of Messiah, disciples are encouraged to be generous. A generous collection had been taken by the brotherhood in the Macedonian region (2 Corinthians 8:1) to be used to help impoverished brothers and sisters in Jerusalem during a severe drought. Their sacrificial giving was proof that “…they first gave themselves to our Master and to us through the will of YAHWEH.” (v. 8:5) Those that gave were able to give with all their hearts because they were focused on the Messiah and what He did for them. All this was the provision of YHWH, the Elohim that loves His people. (“Hardened Hearts: Strengthening the Brotherhood in Messiah“; “Real Love“; “Disciples Need Strong Communication“)

Yahshua [Jesus] gave up any idea of wealth and comfort to remedy the drought of spiritual need in the world. Those that listened could be spiritually rich and pass that on to others. (“Understanding Real Prosperity“; “Plans to Prosper You“; “Divine Health & Prosperity“)

wealthy CorinthiansThe Corinthians were wealthy and had eagerly promised their assistance, yet had delayed with the precious help that was needed. The Apostle Paul called them on this fault, not to make them feel pain, but from a sense of equality based on their pledge that they had not honored from the previous year. They were admonished to give what they could cheerfully, rather than focusing on the amount. By giving to their brothers in need, they could expect the same when they were in need through the same brotherly love, as a devotion to the purpose of Messiah first and foremost, as their brothers in Macedonia had. Effective ministers had been dispatched to properly share the gift with their needy brothers and sisters in Messiah. He spurred the Corinthians to action by recounting how their faithful enthusiasm had caused others to help. (“Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “Knowing Where You Stand on YHWH’s Threshing Floor“; “The Secret Weapons of Christians“)

Paul encouraged preparation and planning ahead rather than having a sudden confrontation regarding their promise. For Yahshua [Jesus] had told His people:

“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” – Matthew 5:37, NKJV

There is little doubt that in those days, as in the days that you and I live in, that the needs of others seem to be endless. While there is nothing wrong with humanitarian aid, Disciples of the Messiah that share the same beliefs must exhibit the depth of their trust in YHWH. They do this by caring for their brothers and sisters in brotherly love and without grudging. (Galatians 6:10; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“; “Abiding with YHWH in Quiet Places“)

Paul’s words ring loudly today.

“But remember this: the one sowing sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one sowing generously will also reap generously. Each one as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or out of necessity, for YAHWEH loves a cheerful giver. And YAHWEH is able to make all grace to abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self sufficiency, you may abound to every good work…” – 1 Corinthians 9:6-8, HRB

chickadeeinetYHWH has given each of us everything that we have and hold in this life. We are stewards that, in reality, own nothing. From one moment to the next, what you have may change. Disciples are admonished to give themselves wholly to YHWH and to their brothers in faith. Disciples are not to be stingy or grudgingly withhold assistance when they can offer it. Investing in YHWH and His Kingdom is to be a way of life. Investing in His people is no different. A Christian should not expect to be wealthy through giving, but to bless and honor his brothers and to be blessed in return, as all prosper in praise and thankfulness. Why? (“Praise Through Times of Trouble“; “A Branch of the Vine Through Trust“; “How Do You Honor YHWH?“)

Paul makes a case for being a disciple in 1 Corinthians 15. Today, like then, many do not believe in resurrection, firmly rejecting the Messiah. In verse 20, Paul makes the case that Yahshua [Jesus] was raised from the dead. Adam brought sin and death. In Messiah all will be made alive personally and individually until last days, when YHWH will take authority from Satan away. Otherwise, all is useless. “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” (Isaiah 22:13) There are many that are ignorant of YHWH, but this should not be, because the charge of the Christian is to make all aware of the truth of the Bible, whether they choose to believe it or not. (“The False Shepherd and the True Shepherd“; “Which Shepherd Do You Believe?“)

bible-hug-internetYour love for the Most High and your brothers (even the potential of brothers-to-be) should move you to action. By trust in YHWH’s Word, disciples know that eternal life beyond the grave exists. What a disciple does represent is what he or she reaps for eternity. Keeping continual company with those that deny the resurrection of Yahshua [Jesus] will corrupt good character that a disciple must have. A personal measure of trust (faith, belief) must propel each disciple to trust fully in YHWH without wavering. What you reap in life is what you sow. When you are stingy with personal love for your brother, you will reap the same. When you are stingy with YHWH, you will reap the same. How you judge others, you will be judged. (“Wavering Between Two Opinions“; “Do You Give Leftovers to Messiah?“)

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 7:12, NKJV

When you claim to be a disciple of the Messiah and refuse to do what unbelievers do, what can you expect? Are you willingly letting a brother or sister that you know about suffer, as you ignore them in silence? (Matthew 10:40-42) Your lifestyle and generosity are a direct reflection of the fruit in your life. (Galatians 5:22-23; “Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“)

“Now He [YHWH] that supplies seed to the Sower and bread for eating, may He supply and multiply your seed and increase the fruits of your righteousness, in everything you being enriched to all sincerity, which works out thanksgiving to YAHWEH through us. Because the ministry of this service is not only making up the things lacking of the saints, but also multiplying through many thanksgivings to YAHWEH, through the proof of this charitable service, they glorifying YAHWEH by your freely expressed submission to the good news of Messiah, and through your generosity you have become partakers with them and with all men” – 2 Corinthians 9:10-13, HRB

handing-moneyThis is the Way that true disciples walk, trusting YHWH to supply every need as they supply needs for others. Ask yourself what Yahshua [Jesus] did. He gave. He gave. He kept giving. Giving was the purpose of His sacrifice. He is the ultimate example of any professed Christian. This is a vital element in the purpose that He gave to each disciple while He was ‘away’, until His return. (Matthew 28:16-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8, 20:35; 1 John 2:15-17; Galatians 5:16) The question must be asked. Do you function in your life as the Messiah did while He was here for His earthly ministry? If not, why not? Yet, in most cultures, this is exactly NOT what is happening. Many of us are only too happy to pay someone else to do it. Those that are taking payment and salving your misdirection are doing you no favor. Why? You aren’t being told the truth. Yahshua [Jesus] wanted you to do something real as part of your own element, your personal ministry toward His ‘Great Commission.’ You might not even need to give up your life as He did. However, rest assured that your love, devotion and commitment will be welcomed and rewarded. That is the Father’s promise to those that live in His trust. Your love for YHWH is part of your expression of life. You don’t need to look at your neighbor to see what he or she is doing. The example for every living human being is to focus on the Messiah and His purpose, and then to keep doing that. This is a radical departure from what most are being taught and how efforts are being spent today. (Matthew 6:33; Hebrews 11:6; 1 Timothy 6:17-19;  Revelation 3:20)

hourglass-timeIn these times, action is called for. A personal decision is required, a decision to press forward in trust. This isn’t the morality or ethics that most of mankind parades, but YHWH’s track of righteousness. If you continue to follow traditions of men and do not listen to the Word of YHWH, you will be judged accordingly on YHWH’s threshing floor. (Deuteronomy 12:30-32; Matthew 15:3, 8-10; 2 Peter 3:3-4; Acts 13:41; Matthew 24:12-15)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
