Source & Solution of Temptations

by Ruth Greene

ruth-greene“Blessed is the man who endures temptation, because having been approved he will receive the crown of life which YAHWEH promised to the ones loving Him.” – James 1:1, HRB

What you do proves your heart. You must endure. That endurance usually won’t be easy in the flesh because Satan will buffet you, exaggerating the unpleasantness of the matter. You will even buffet yourself through your own desires and expectations that are not grounded in YHWH’s Word. It is up to you to be obedient to what you know is truth. (2 Peter 2:9; “A Branch of the Vine through Trust“)

“Let no one being tempted say, ‘I am tempted from YAHWEH.’ For Elohim [‘God’] is not tempted by evil, and He tempts no one. But each one is tempted by his own lusts, he covets and is seduced by them. Then having conceived lust brings forth sin. And sin being fully formed brings forth death.” – James 1:13-15, HRB

thinkingWhen you dwell on a thought, that thought becomes an action when you don’t put that thought down. An evil thought is destructive. Unhappily, when you aren’t paying attention or are misled, you don’t see the evil. It’s like when I fell into a snow drift in New York. I was stepping out the back door. As I stepped down those stairs I fell into a drift of snow that covered me. I hollered as the snow swallowed me up. I had to fight my way out. I didn’t think it was a laughing matter. I was in over my head. That snow took control of my body. (Matthew 4:1-11; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 2 Timothy 2:22) The result of temptations overcomes you the same way. Sin involves your life and consumes you like a huge snowdrift that weighs you down. I was the one that unwittingly stepped into the snowdrift in my own ignorance. YHWH allows tests and trials to refine personal faith so that you will grow closer to Him. (“Knowledge of Good & Evil“; “The Lie Changes Everything“)

Evil thoughts and conduct are easy to blame on others.

”It is the other persons fault;”

“I could not help it;”

“Everybody is doing it;”

“It was just a mistake;”

”Nobody is perfect;”

“The devil made me do it;”

“I was pressured into it;”

“I didn’t know it was wrong;”

“God is tempting me.”

accuseShifting the blame doesn’t work. A disciple accepts full accountability for his or her own wrongs and confesses them in prayer while asking for forgiveness – while forgiving self. (Psalm 27:1; Isaiah 60:19-22; John 1:1-14; “Temptation & Tough Choices“; “Breaking the Hold of Addictions through Temptation“)

Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own Will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.” – James 1:16-18

When you go through pressures, you may grow angry. Life doesn’t go your way even though you have the best of intentions. Your Heavenly Father says that when you persevere, a test results in a far superior end than what you would have otherwise experienced. You don’t like a trial whether you cause that trial or not. Even so, you don’t give up or stop living for your Heavenly Father. Your fullness in Messiah is brought out through your trust in YHWH by the word of truth. You have been redeemed through the riches of His grace. (Ephesians 1:7-13; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” – James 1:2-4

labor-commodityWhen you seek anything through YHWH, you had better be patient. That is what He requires. You can lead what you see as a perfectly upright life. You will still have trials, not necessarily because you have done something wrong. You have lots of questions along the way. YHWH’s answer is to trust Him, to look to Him. To do otherwise is to live in doubt. (“Disciple: Where Do You Place Your Trust?“; “Trust YHWH, Not World Leaders“)

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from Elohim, who gives to all freely and with grace, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, doubting nothing. For the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, being driven by wind and being tossed; for do not let that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Almighty; he is a double-souled man, not dependable in all his ways.” – James 1:5-8, HRB

Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.” – James 1:9-11, NKJV

fireWhen you are humbled by the world you are exalted by YHWH. Disciples that aren’t in high position in the world should be glad. They are great in YHWH’s eyes. Status and wealth are the pride of the world. When you are proud and wealthy, you are humiliated by the fact that this wealth and status will soon pass away like the flowers of the field. (Matthew 13:6; Mark 4:18-20; Revelation 7:16, 14:18) Worldly pursuits are burned away by withering heat of YHWH’s judgment. What a man trusts becomes the root of his own curse when that trust isn’t in the Almighty. What is in your heart is what matters to YHWH, not what is in your bank account. Imagine that! (“Humility: Do You Need It?“; “Living in an Apostate World“; “Video: Love of the World“)

How easy it is to forget about what qualities that you need to be pleasing to YHWH, to pass through trials as He guides you. When you talk too much and listen too little, you tell others that you think your ideas are much more important. What I learned in medical training was to use a “mental stopwatch” on your mouth. Think first before you speak. Keep track of how you listen in the presence of others. Even worldly psychiatrists have learned that listening is required if there is to be any hope of understanding, let alone relating to someone else. (Proverbs 10:19, 14:17, 16:32, 17:27) YHWH’s Word has a deeper purpose. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “Are You an Effective Listener? Listening & Your Relationships“)

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. For the wrath of man does not work out the righteousness of YAHWEH. Wherefore, remove far from you all impurity, and the abundance of wickedness; and, with meekness, receive the word that is implanted in our nature, being able to save your souls.” – James 1:19-21, HRB

child angerAnger and its roots don’t produce YHWH’s righteousness. Anger helps nobody. Anger exalts self ahead of YHWH. It is selfish and self-serving. You will not win an argument through anger. It separates you from others and never unites or encourages. We are to turn aside from the filth of man and wickedness. Instead, a disciple must receive YHWH’s Word instead of the ways of man. How often do each of us, by listening to world, reap the fruit of what has been sown? (Colossians 3:8; Acts 13:26; Ephesians 4:22, 1:13; “The Truth About Anger“; “The Stronghold of Anger“)

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” – James 1:22-25, NKJV

I know from personal experience that you must know what the Bible says in order to do it. Yet, James tells you that you must do what the Word says, not simply hearing a word and forgetting it on the way home. This kind of forgetfulness and inattention is ineffective and self-defeating. You need to have a real interest in what YHWH says and to press that into action. Nobody will do this for you. Read the Word and allow the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit] to teach you! Look to the Word of your Shepherd. (“Doctrine is What You Do“)

bible-hug-internetYour trust is your own, which is demonstrated by what you do. When your behavior and attitude are not righteous, you reap what the world has sown in your life. To counteract this plague, you must put into action what you have learned from YHWH’s Word into practice. YHWH’s Word points out your faults and sins when you are willing to examine yourself. The problem is that lots of people are tired of criticism and condemnation. They are focused on the world, their upbringing and the opinions of others. They have become weighed down by worldly society and thinking, full of rejection and self-judgment. Even so, you cannot be free from the world without self-examination. (Matthew 7:21-28; Luke 6:47; James 2:12; John 13:17; “Responsibility & Accountability“)

“And if any one thinks that he ministers to Elohim, and does not restrain his tongue, he deceives his own heart, and his service is in vain. Pure and holy service before YAHWEH and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” – James 1:26-27, HRB

helping handBy caring for powerless brothers and sisters in Messiah, the orphaned, the widowed, Elohim’s people put His Word into practice while they live now. When you give to brothers and sisters with no hope of receiving in return, you show what it means to serve others. To be free from the spot of the world, you need to commit yourself to the Messiah and His Kingdom. The system of the world is based on money, power and pleasure. What you trust can be clearly seen by Yahshua [Jesus] when you are contaminated by these values. (Romans 5:12, 6:23; “Giving to Others While Trusting in YHWH for Your Needs“)

“Examine yourselves whether you are in the belief – prove yourselves. Or do you not know yourselves, that Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah is in you, unless you are disapproved.” – 2 Corinthians 13:5, ISR98

“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But beware of men; for they will deliver you to the house of judgment, and they will scourge you in their assemblies. And also you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them and to the gentiles. But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious how or what you should say, for it is given to you in that hour what you should say.

For you are not the ones speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. But brother will betray brother to death, and the father his child. And children will rise up against parents and will put them to death. And you will be hated by all on account of My name, but the one enduring to the end shall be saved.” – Matthew 10:16-22, HRB

History has borne out the horrible history of man that Yahshua [Jesus] foretold, a testimony that proves the words of Messiah that disciples continue to live in some form today.

set-apart-Spirit-bannerDisciples are not to be sheep-like except in looking to their shepherd, Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. We are to sensible and prudent, not gullible pawns to the world. Neither are we to be deceitful connivers. A balance is required between wisdom and vulnerability in order to accomplish the Will of YHWH. Disciples are set apart to Him. As you stand firm to the end, this is evidence that you are firmly committed to your Master. In the same way, persistence does not earn salvation, but is the result of your commitment to the righteousness of YHWH. As a disciple, you are called to a higher mission than to seek comfort and tranquility. Instead, disciples are to seek Messiah and all other things will be added. (Matthew 6:25-33; “The Bible & Higher Authority“; “The Role of Authority in Your Life“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
