“But Pilate answered them, saying, ‘Do you desire I should release to you the king of the Jews?’ For he knew that the chief priests had delivered Him up through envy.” – Mark 15:9-10, HRB
Envy is a major tool that Satan and his agents use to create division among men, women and children all over the world. Jealousy and envy are rooted and driven with fear in a self-feeding cycle unless that cycle is deliberately broken. (“A Mind of Envy and Competition“)
Yahshua [Jesus] had amassed a large following of people and the ruling body of the Jews, the Sanhedrin, envied Him. Because of this uncontrollable envy, they pursued His crucifixion by the Romans. The Chief Priest and his supporters continued to pursue the end of Yahshua [Jesus] through Pontius Pilate while He was in custody. They insisted that the Romans needed to have Him executed. Pilate knew that all charges against Yahshua [Jesus] were trumped up, but Yahshua [Jesus] refused to open His mouth in personal defense, a fulfillment of prophecy. The priests stirred up the crowd against Yahshua [Jesus] even as Pilate tried to get the unruly crowd to absolve Him. (“Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“)
Yahshua [Jesus] was born into the family of a craftsman, a carpenter or wood worker. He had followed the law of the Romans concerning His ministry. Had the Sanhedrin not been so full of envy, they might have realized that Yahshua [Jesus] fulfilled Bible prophecy as their Messiah. (Isaiah 53; Isaiah 61:1-4)
Instead, they were consumed with the ritual of their own teaching and knowledge apart from YHWH as their significance. They had deceived themselves. Yet, they claimed to be children of Abraham, setting a forefather between YHWH and themselves, just as they pursued their own thinking and religious philosophy to satisfy their own minds. (“Forsaking Bitterness“; “What is Evil? The Jealousy of Nations & Skeptics“)
Envy was the tool, grounded in fear. They greatly feared Yahshua [Jesus]. They did not accept as their Messiah. They were jealous of His eager followers and the rumors of healing, resurrections and stories about His powerful teaching. (Matthew 10:33-34) He healed Jews and non-Jews as their belief and trust allowed. He gave patient instruction about a new kingdom, the behaviors of man, trust and prophecies, which apply to all disciples of Messiah today! (Matthew 16:13-16) His ministry created attention and change in lives.
Yahshua [Jesus] came to save a Jewish nation that often rejected Him, and then to offer His Kingdom to the world through the provision of spiritual Israel. (Matthew 15:4; 1 Peter 2:9-10) He had a message to deliver and a perfect sacrifice to cover the sin of mankind. (Isaiah 53:4-5, 11-12) He introduced the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit] to His followers. (John 14:16) He did not want His people to be ignorant of what was to come in the flesh (Daniel 9:26-27) or spiritually. (Luke 4:18; John 10:10)
He was instructing His disciples about the necessity to spiritually discern in preparation for their ongoing ministry.
“And coming into the parts of Caesarea of Philip, Yahshua [Jesus] questioned His disciples, saying, Whom do men say Me the Son of Man to be? And they said, Some say John the Baptist, and others Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. He said to them, But you, whom do you say Me to be? And answering, Simon Peter said, You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim.” – Matthew 16:13-16, HRB
Modern disciples still have the call to discernment about the gospel that they are obeying. Your decision holds one of two options: whether you accept or reject the Messiah through your obedience to accurate Bible understanding along with the Holy Spirit. (“Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)
