Disciple: The Bible & Higher Authority

by John Greene

How often Christians take the word of translators, accepting what they have done as ‘Gospel,’ or accepting what a pastor or preacher says at face value without searching scripture, learning to discern what the Bible really says. (Acts 17:10-12; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Unhappily, this is not always the case. Because of the inability of Christians to discern, they fall victim to a substitute word, an antichrist or antimessiah message. As a result, Christianity is in confusion and disagreement as to what is truth in the Bible. (1 Corinthians 14:33; 2 Peter 2:1-3; Colossians 2:8) Surely, Satan has crept in to divide and conquer. At Bible Vision, we always recommend reading the Bible in context to be certain that you, the Bible reader, have a complete understanding. Unhappily, because of distortion and misunderstanding in the attempt to make a certain point, submission to government authorities is largely misunderstood and distorted in Christianity today. This is a compromise of Bible truth. (“A Mind of Envy and Competition“; “Messiah & the Tool of Envy“; “Breaking Strongholds of False Authority“)

”For though we do live an earthly life, yet we do not serve worldly things; for the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but of the power of YAHWEH to the demolition of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every false thing lifting up itself against the knowledge of Elohim, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Messiah” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, HRB

statute-that-applies-to-Bible-truthWhich authority are you in submission to? The message of proper submission to authority applies to every single person that is alive today. YHWH made all men to live together on earth. At the same time, YHWH does not force His Will on any man. You have a choice in the matter, all the way to the lake of fire and eternal destruction if you so wish. All power comes from YHWH. He is the ultimate authority, having given the same authority to His Son, Yahshua [Jesus]. (Psalm 75:7; Daniel 4:34) Because of your free will in this age, that power does not require submission. In life, He gives you a choice. (Titus 1:15; Isaiah 5:20; Genesis 6:5; “The Real Meaning of Romans 13“; “The Role of Authority in Your Life“)

If people were perfect, some would argue that mankind wouldn’t need laws or higher authority. This is hardly the case, since mankind before the fall had law from YHWH. Obviously, mankind continues under the influence of Satan in rebellion to that law. Elohim is still the lawgiver, the sovereign over mankind, even if much of mankind disagrees. (James 4:12; Revelation 20:12; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; Isaiah 33:22; “Disciples & the Authority of Man“)

The laws that YHWH Almighty gave to the nation of Israel were provided because of the sin nature of mankind. The Bible has often pointed out the negative to highlight the positive, which much of mankind truly hates. Through the ages, man has continually distorted YHWH’s perfect law by creating his own (a substitute or counterfeit0. This is little different today. In fact, finding truth can be quite difficult. Yet, the purity of YHWH’s Word remains for those that seek it. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Being Set Apart Makes You Aware of Sin“; “Understanding Sin“; “Building a Counterfeit Kingdom“)

dusty-bible-read-meJust as you have the right to reject YHWH’s Word, you have the same right to reject the will of other ‘higher authorities.’ Remember that YHWH does not command the authorities of the world, even though some Christians would say otherwise. They are part of another kingdom. (Matthew 13:10-16; Romans 12:1-2) The Bible simply says that disciples are to respect them, specifically to pay the head tax or required tribute of the day. (Mark 12:17; Luke 20:25) He was not referring to giving up your mind or the power of what you do. For sanctified disciples of Messiah, that power belongs to YHWH. Your Heavenly Father commands that disciples of Messiah are to fight Satan. (1 Peter 5:8; Ephesians 2:2) Satan is the authority of the world that the world of man follows after. (Proverbs 8:15-16; John 12:31, 14:30; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Luke 13:16; Hebrews 2:14; 1 John 5:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:9; Revelation 13:2; “Hardened Hearts: Strengthening the Brotherhood in Messiah“; “Breaking the Strongholds of Egypt and Canaan in Your Heart“; “Christianity: A Crisis in Prayer & Spirit“)

“And the entire assembly of them, having risen up, led Him to Pilate, and began to accuse Him, saying, ‘We found this one perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Messiah, a Sovereign.’” – Luke 23:1-2, ISR98  (Matthew 22:15-22, 26:59, 27:1; John 19:11)

accuseSatan and his minions are accusers, even as they twist matters for their own benefit, just as they did to Yahshua [Jesus] in front of Pilate. Many Christians believe that they must submit to this behavior, perhaps because of what they see or are told is the example of the Messiah. The truth is that Yahshua [Jesus] confronted the norms of society during His ministry on earth. He was also required to fulfill prophecy. At the end of His earthly ministry, Pilate was looking for any excuse to release Him, yet Yahshua [Jesus] remained quiet to seal His sacrificial offering. Because of a complete lack of discernment on their part, the prevailing attitude is that Christians must follow every law, even every idea or lifestyle, promoted by higher authorities that put themselves above people. This is not the case. You are not a doormat, legally obligated to follow every rule that a man or a nation creates. The Savior made it clear that you are a son of YHWH, or of Satan. You are the one that makes the choice. (“The Unapologetic Christian“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“)

“Yahshua [Jesus] answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone practicing sin is a servant of sin. But the servant does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.’” – John 8:34-35, HRB

As a disciple, your primary obligation is to YHWH and the power of His Word. YHWH, your Heavenly Father, is the highest authority, not the law of the land where you live! (Romans 6:16-22)

health - in the hospitalWhen disease springs upon you in life, most intelligent people seek to fight disease with any tool at their disposal. In fact, if you understand healing, it is not YHWH’s Will that you are sick. He has made spiritual provision for you to be well through His Son, Yahshua [Jesus] and the power of the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit]. Still, the desire to be well is up to you. The desire to believe your Heavenly Father for healing is totally up to you. Many Christians glory in sickness because they believe that somehow, they are bearing the cross of the Messiah. If you believe that, you don’t believe the gospel of Messiah or the Bible. You are following another authority. Since only two kingdoms exist, which one are you willfully following? (James 5:14-15; “What Is Washing By The Word?“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“; “Healing: What YHWH Wants for You!“; “Healing: The Beginning of Love“; “Freaky Science, Food and Rebellion“)

You are not required to fill your body full of disease, nor submit to it, nor to own that disease by calling it ‘yours’ as the propaganda of the world says. In the same way, you are not to submit to malignant laws of mankind. On the other hand, if you want to submit to the lake of fire and eternal destruction, go right ahead. That is your right! You are not commanded, nor obligated to submit to the power of Satan or his kingdom. You are commanded to observe the authority of YHWH, your Heavenly Father. When you are of the light, you shine that light! (Acts 5:29, 16:35-40, 17:5-8)

“You are the light of the world. It is impossible for a city to be hidden on a mountain. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines to all those in the house. Let your light so shine before men, so that they see your good works and praise your Father who is in the heavens.” – Matthew 5:14-16, ISR98

“No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other; or he will cleave to the one, and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve YAHWEH and wealth.” – Matthew 6:24, HRB

Because we walk in the flesh, we do not serve according to the flesh. For the tools of our service in warfare are not fleshly, but powerful through Elohim to the destruction of strongholds. Destroy imaginations and all high places that are exalted over the knowledge of Elohim and make captive every mind to obedience of the Messiah.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, direct translation

thumbs-up-politics-christiansChristians cannot simply close their minds and follow leaders as their authority as a means to escape wrongdoing on their own either. (Romans 13:6; Psalm 2:2-6, 10; Revelation 17-20) A disciple of Messiah is not a child of disobedience to the Father. (Mark 13:34; Colossians 3:6; Romans 1:18; Ephesians 5:6) YHWH has given every disciple the authority to obey Him. Every disciple has authority to do the Will of YHWH while he or she lives on earth. Wicked men may rule the ‘kosmos’ of the world, but this does not mean that you are required to submit to the will of wicked men. You will put no other thing above YHWH, your Heavenly Father, your Elohim. Period. (Exodus 20:3-4; Isaiah 45:5) You do not listen to distorted world views and the ambition of man. (Matthew 23:2-3) So, we ask you, which authority do you resist? (“The Road to Enslavement“; “The Real Meaning of Romans 13“; “Trust YHWH, Not World Leaders“; “The Great Beast Seduction“)

“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for through these things the wrath of YAHWEH comes on the sons of disobedience. Then do not become partakers with them; for you then were darkness, but are now light in the Master; walk as children of light. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, and you must discern what is acceptable before our Master. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather condemn them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things being done by them in secret.” – Ephesians 5:6-12, HRB

Indeed rulers (of the world) agree to hold no terror to beneficial deeds, but to wicked. Determine moreover not to be afraid of their authority. Do what is beneficial, even have (bring) praise to yourself. Indeed they are the attendants of YHWH to you for your benefit. Moreover, when you abide evil, be afraid. Moreover, don’t bear judicial punishment without reason. For they are the attendants of YHWH, to carry out justice to wrath for habitual evil. Consequently, use constraint (unnatural restraint) in subjection, not only through wrath, that is even through conscience. Indeed through this (in this way) complete your tribute, even because they agree (with YHWH) as a public servant of YHWH, diligent in purpose, the same as you.” – Romans 13:3-6, direct translation

common-good-politicsSo what is Paul saying? Even wicked rulers create a barrier to evil, at least in theory. Do what is good and you will have praise from them. Be afraid of the wicked ruler when you do evil. This appears to make sense as far as observing the laws of any nation. But man’s law is not necessarily YHWH’s justice, in fact, far from it! (Proverbs 28:16) The rule of the dark kingdom is often oppression and confusion. Oppression and confusion are not from your Heavenly Father! (1 Corinthians 14:33) Living a peaceful and quiet life isn’t enough. There is often resistance to a quiet life. Meddling, imprisonment and political, even social distortion may be the rule of the day. (1 Thessalonians 4:11; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Job 34-29-30; Micah 2:1; Matthew 2:8) What does YHWH command? Disciples of Messiah are to resist Satan! (“Overcoming Satanic Attack“; “Overcoming Fear during Tough Times“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“)

The Bible is your authority. The world and religion can try to justify its power through Romans 13. Since they are ‘in authority,’ they can do as they please. What are you to do? Resist Satan as the beast that he is! (Luke 13:32; Acts 23:3-5; Titus 1:12) You are not a beast, but a child of the Most High!

business-politicsWhen power is ‘entrusted’ to any authority, that power is not for the terror and oppression of the upright man, but to overawe and punish the wicked. This is for the benefit of the community, but not for the building up authority as a tyrant. If man or government should use their authority irresponsibly, to wrong, rob, spoil, oppress, and persecute his subjects, he is not only a bad man, but also an evil ruler! He infringes on YHWH’s principles. Such behavior makes the ruler a plague. It is awful to rebel against YHWH. Yet, how often this happens right in government! Certainly, this very thing is going on today in most of the wealthier prime nations, and certainly in the United States. The authority of government is allowed to promote order and prosperity, not to twist and distort, to use prosperity for its own ends or to create loopholes for social engineering and unfair advantage.

Government submission is Biblically ordered as long as order and prosperity of the people is pursued and obtained within the constructs of YHWH’s Word. When government departs from this principle and becomes the protector of the evil and the oppressor of good according to Bible principles, the need to submit is reversed, and the obligation to support the evil must cease. However, this doesn’t require disciples of the Messiah to set up another government on earth to satisfy their minds. Sanctified disciples of Messiah support only YHWH’s Kingdom and the spread of His Word in these last days. (“Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “Your Purpose in the Body of Messiah“)

“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, not to slander anyone, not to be quarrelsome, to be gentle, showing all meekness to all men.  For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, led astray, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in evil and envy, being hated and hating one another.  But when the kindness and the love of Elohim our Savior toward man appeared. He saved us, not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His compassion, through the washing of rebirth, and renewal by the Set-apart Spirit,  which He poured out on us richly through Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah our Savior,  that having been declared right by His favor we should become heirs according to the expectation of everlasting life. ” – Titus 3:1-7, ISR98

spiritual-snake-oilThis puts obedience of a disciple of the Messiah to authority in proper life perspective. A disciple that is able to submit to the rule of the dark kingdom does so as a witness to Messiah, to put to silence ignorant and foolish men. A disciple is not to use his or her freedom in Messiah as an excuse for wrongdoing to Bible principles. He or she is a new man in Messiah according to the loving-kindness of YHWH and the renewing power of the Holy Spirit. (Daniel 2:22-23; “Disciple: Renewing Your Mind“)

In context, disciples are to love their neighbors and put on the Messiah. (Romans 13:5-14) A disciple of the Messiah is not of this world or its systems. YHWH instructs:

“And I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.'” – Revelation 18:4, NKJV

Disciples [all servants and ministers of YHWH] are to come out of Babylon, the religious and political system of mankind, without apology. Babylon means confusion. The true servants of YHWH, disciples of the Messiah have come out of this world, its governments, false religions and confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

The night before Yahshua [Jesus] was crucified, He illustrated an important principle to His disciples through prayer: “I pray not that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through Your truth: your word is truth.” – John 17:15-17, NKJV

Owe nothing to any man except brotherly love for one another. Indeed brotherly love for others completes the law. For this reason no adultery, no murder, no robbery, no false witness, no covet, even if any other commandment, sum it up in this doctrine under love your neighbor. Certainly, love completes the law. Brotherly love works no evil to neighbors. Certainly, brotherly love completes the law.” – Romans 13:8-10, direct translation

track-embattlementA disciple is one who believes and follows the truth of YHWH’s Word. He or she cannot give this authority to someone else. Being a disciple of the Messiah is personal, not fobbed off as the duty of someone else. A disciple of the Messiah is set apart in the righteousness of YHWH. YHWH’s Word sanctifies and purifies the heart and mind. A disciple of the Messiah is not of the world and its ways, customs, philosophies and traditions. Personal conduct justifies personal trust! In the mind of the average professed Christian, YHWH is not ‘God’ – government is ‘God!’ In this modern age, independence from government is often compromised. Straight-jacketed religion would rather please government than to please the Creator. They would rather have peace with the dark kingdom than the favor of YHWH, the Most High. Obeying government is often seen as easier than obedience to YHWH. Like the Pharisees during the ministry of Yahshua [Jesus], they have already reaped their reward in full. (Matthew 6:5; “Disciple of Messiah: Live Your Belief“; “Disciple of Messiah: You are a Spiritual Watchman“)

Even here, understand the occasion, because now is our hour to rise from sleep. Indeed now our salvation is nearer than when we believed. The night is but well along, the day is near. Now cast off the works of darkness, even put on the armor of light. Walk honestly, as in the day of judgment, not reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual abandon and lasciviousness, not in strife and envy. Indeed, put on the Master Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah and don’t abide in provision for the flesh into desire.” – Romans 13:11-14, direct translation

pope-benedict-200x300What is the authority of government? It is not a license to promote the belief that someone other than YHWH or the Messiah will solve the problems of mankind. It is not a reason for Christians to accept everything that higher authority in the world does. This authority is not created to insure the ‘greater good’ or ‘common good’ through the works of man. Earthly authority is not a proof that government is good or just, or that it should be obeyed when it violates its own laws or YHWH’s laws. (“A Lifestyle Message from Jeremiah“; “Jeremiah’s Prayer and You“)

salvation from the stormWith the rejection of YHWH by the nation of Israel, nations are no longer chosen. The people of YHWH are chosen and proved through obedience and the personal demonstration of love. Salvation is personal, one man or woman at a time through YHWH’s Word that is rightly divided, not through association with religion and not through an earthly or inherited nation of people. (2 Timothy 2:15; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 5:8-9) YHWH is your salvation, provisioned through Yahshua [Jesus] and the Holy Spirit. Believe it. (“Are You Useful to YHWH?“; “Credentials of a Disciple of Messiah“)

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
