Halloween: Choking Off Spiritual Fruit

by John Greene

choking off spiritual fruitThe world is in bondage to dead things as far as your Heavenly Father is concerned. Untold numbers of professed Christians think nothing of mixing their lives up with traditions or whatever else they wish. “Why not?” many Christians reason. After all, most Christians don’t rely on YHWH for much of anything. They look to themselves and others instead. They look at the world and the ways of world to provide what they need, what is most important to them in life. Some may give YHWH or Yahshua [Jesus] some credit, but they still look at things the same way as the world. In this way, Christians continually introduce poisonous leaven into their lives. In the same way, Halloween is often seen as a pleasant diversion in life that is to be celebrated. The truth is that investing in Halloween is investing your life in another one of the world’s dead things. (Psalm 45:7; Hebrews 11:13-16; 1 Peter 2:11) YHWH’s people are often destroyed for the lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6) May that be the case no more! (“Opposing Fear“; “Fear & YHWH’s Protection“; “Knowledge of Good and Evil“; “Video Study: The Right Kind of Knowledge“)

As Christians, the Bible reminds us that we are different. How?

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of Elohim, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto Elohim, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of Elohim.” – Romans 12:1-2, WoY

light versus darkness“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” – Matthew 6:22-23, NKJV

Halloween celebrates darkness, fear, fright and twisted mannerisms of darkness with the idea that this is fun. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; 2 Timothy 1:7; “Freedom from Spiritual Bondage“) It celebrates divination, sorcery and spells, all the things that Bible truth speaks against. Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah says that you need to be full of light, not full of fear, nor of darkness. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Philippians 4:8) He came to free Christians of all their fears. (Luke 1:74; Hebrews 2:14-15; 2 Chronicles 7:14) But there is more:

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve Yahweh and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24, WoY

While we aren’t directly talking about a lifestyle of greed here, Yahshua [Jesus] clearly says that no man can serve two masters, which gives you a personal choice as to which master you will serve. Will you serve your Heavenly Father or the darkness of the world? This brings both sides into clearer contrast. (“The Struggle of Kingdoms Involves You“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“)

worry and fearIn the same context, Messiah then discusses the worries of life that most people are fully entrenched with in this generation. What is His view? “For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first His kingdom and righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:32-33, WoY

Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah came to abolish death with His sacrifice. (Isaiah 28:18; Luke 7:14-15; John 10:17-18; Acts 2:24, 27; 1 Corinthians 15:54-55; Hebrews 2:14; Revelation 1:18; 28:18) Mankind continues to live in this age as the final proof that mankind, nor Satan, knows how to rule, proving YHWH’s sovereignty, His right to rule the earth.

joyYour Heavenly Father doesn’t promise to add darkness, Halloween or worldly celebrations to your life, but exactly what you need most, the sustenance of life and His promises. Halloween doesn’t celebrate life, but dead things, the perversions and imaginings of darkness. (Romans 13:12; Ephesians 6:11-18; “YHWH’s Threshing Floor“; “Knowing Where You Stand on YHWH’s Threshing Floor“)

“It remains, my brothers, that you are empowered in the Master and in the dominion of His strength. Clothe yourself with the full armor of Elohim. You are able to be of power, to stand against the trickery of the enemy. For we do not profit wrestling against flesh and blood, but against the rule of power, against delegated authority, against the world rulers, the darkness of this age, against spiritual iniquity on high. Because of this, take up the full armor of Elohim, that you have the power to resist in the evil age, and fully accomplish all things established.” – Ephesians 6:10-13, direct translation

When you celebrate things like Halloween, you aren’t putting on the armor of YHWH, nor are you wrestling against the ruler of the darkness of this age or wickedness. Instead, you are celebrating darkness, the ruler of this world. (1 John 5:19; John 3:19-20; Ephesians 5:7-12) In contrast, disciples of the Messiah are to keep unspotted from the world. (James 1:27) Disciples are not to imitate what is evil. (3 John 1:11) Anyone that professes to be of YHWH’s people will not participate in wickedness. (Deuteronomy 18:9-14; 1 Corinthians 10:21; 1 Timothy 4:1; “Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“; “Strongholds & the Armor of YHWH“)

roman battlementInstead, Christians are admonished to hate what is evil and to follow the example of the Messiah, both in life and lifestyle. (Romans 12:9; 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1) Disciples of Messiah are to have nothing to do with fruitless deeds of darkness, but to live as children of light. (Ephesians 5:11-12) Disciples of the Messiah are to hold fast to what is fine, to test everything, avoiding evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22; “Refining Your Heart“; “Purity Starts Inside: A Lesson Through the Ages“)

“Submit yourselves therefore to Elohim. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to Elohim, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” – James 4:7-8, WoY

Through spiritual maturity, Christians need to learn for themselves the ability to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. (Ezekiel 44:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22) This is done by holding fast to what YHWH defines as good. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)

Christians, as parents, have a job to do. If they don’t do it and refuse to repent, they are on the road to eternal error. “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” – Matthew 18:6, NKJV

Teaching your children appropriate Bible truth is a big deal to our Father.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6, NKJV

discernment of a childChristian parents are to teach their children how to discern, to be as spiritually mature as possible, to be fully equipped in wrestling with darkness so that they won’t succumb to it. As far as Halloween is concerned, you need to discuss why they don’t participate in this or any public activity designed to be put a kind face on the celebration. (2 Timothy 2:4) We need to encourage our children to be in prayer on a regular basis so that they can live first hand the power of prayer. (Ephesians 6:18) Young disciples have the same standards and purpose as fully grown disciples among their peers. (1 Corinthians 16:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:6) Be certain that they are prepared for spiritual battle and the leaven of the world. Don’t hide what they need to know. Prayerful intercession and spiritual warfare are primary in Christian life, in yours and for young disciples. They are not optional, nor are intercession and spiritual warfare a last ditch action. (“Live As Children of Light“; “YHWH’s Revolution“; “Beware of False Teachers & Disciples“; “Blind Leading the Blind“; “Prospering Your Family“)

Pray for discernment and understanding, what your Heavenly Father promises He will surely give you when you ask. Join with other Christians of like mind in prayer. You can even meet together in like company for good association and prayer. Keep in mind that this season is prime time for recruiting in the dark kingdom. The occultists are looking for cooperation, helpers and victims. Like Christians, they also seek opportunity. The battle is real. You certainly don’t want your children to fall prey to the world in any way. Pray actively that your Heavenly Father will hinder occult activities and those occultists will realize their spiritual condition and willingly receive the word of the Messiah. They are your example and through the working of the Holy [Sanctified or Set Apart] Spirit, your children will come to realize that their witness and actions are important, and that their prayers are not only heard, but powerful to further the purposes of YHWH in this season. (“Being Set Apart Makes You Aware of Sin“; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“; “Consenting to Fables of Men“)

Remember that year round, Christians must work against spirit forces of darkness, publicly, as well as in their own lives. Halloween and the common holiday season is no exception, as Christians seek the Messiah and follow His example, continually putting on the new man in the power of the Holy Spirit. (1 John 4:1; Hebrews 4:12; Philippians 1:9-10; Proverbs 3:1-6; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:6; Colossians 3:9-11; Ephesians 2:15; 4:22-24)

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
