The Kingdom of YHWH and the Drive for Self-Importance

by John and Ruth Greene

People want to feel needed. Often, this need is misdirected into the drive for self-importance. Even the original disciples fell under this passion for greatness. (Matthew 20:23)

importance in mind

“And Yaʽaqob [James] and Yohanan [John], the sons of Zabdai [Zebedee], came up to Him, saying, ‘Teacher, we wish that You would do for us whatever we ask.’ And He said to them, ‘What do you wish Me to do for you?’ And they said to Him, ‘Grant us to be seated in Your esteem, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left.’ But Yahshua [Jesus] said to them, ‘You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?’

And they said to Him, ‘We are able.’ And Yahshua [Jesus] said to them, ‘You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the immersion I am immersed with you shall be immersed, but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.’ And when the ten heard it, they began to be sorely displeased with Yaʽaqob [James] and Yohanan [John].

And Yahshua [Jesus], calling them near, said to them, ‘You know that those who think to rule the gentiles are masters over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever wishes to be first among you, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of Adam did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:35-45, ISR98

proud manThis is often misunderstood as the concept of ‘servant leadership.’ The philosophy of servant leadership emphasizes results for organizations by giving priority attention to the needs of colleagues and those they serve. Servant-leaders are often seen as humble stewards of their organization’s resources: human, financial and physical. While this seems to be a noble goal, the reality is a misdirection of what should be applied to spiritual resources, a misdirection of putting human affairs first instead of truly rebuilding and recreating the mind and heart of each person, a new man in the Messiah through the Sanctified [Set Apart, Holy] Spirit. Servant leadership is actually part of humanism, which has its own purposes through the philosophy of man. (“Seeking a New Spirit“; “Disciples Are Valuable to YHWH“; “Leadership & Highly Effective People“; “The Kingdom of YHWH and the Drive for Self-Importance“)

“And they came to Yeriho [Jericho]. And as He was leaving Yeriho [Jericho] with His taught ones and a large crowd, blind Bartimai [Bartimaeus], the son of Timai [Timaeus], was sitting by the way begging.  And when he heard that it was Yahshua [Jesus] of Natsareth [Nazareth], he began to cry out and to say, ‘Yahshua [Jesus], Son of Dawid [David], have compassion on me!’ And many were reprimanding him to be silent, but he cried out all the more, ‘Son of Dawid [David], have compassion on me!’

And Yahshua [Jesus] stopped and said, ‘Call him.’ And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take courage, arise, He is calling you.’ And he, throwing aside his garment, rose and came to Yahshua [Jesus]. And Yahshua [Jesus] responding, said to him, ‘What do you desire I do for you?’ And the blind man said to Him, ‘Rabboni, that I receive my sight.’

And Yahshua [Jesus] said to him, ‘Go, your belief has healed you.’ And immediately he saw again and followed Yahshua [Jesus] on the way.” – Mark 10:46-52, ISR98  (Isaiah 9:7)

While physical healing is a vital part of YHWH’s purpose for His people, the Messiah is about opening spiritual eyes, illuminating the world around us in the pure light of Elohim of Hosts. Without spiritual healing, physical healing is temporary at best. Life is not simply about self either. Life is about sharing Bible truth by the example of the Master, Yahshua [Jesus].

weeping and gnashingWhy has ‘God’s church’ learned to believe their faith is through their personal power and personal effort? They don’t see their faith as personal cooperation and relationship between themselves (their active and living trust) and the Holy Spirit. Most that see themselves as part of the body of Messiah know little or nothing about the gifts of the Heavenly Father [YHWH] that would come to operate among disciples after the Master departed for heaven. (1 Corinthians 12) This is not criticism, but a real truth that truth-seeking disciples need to become aware of. This must change, as personal salvation could come to depend on it. Many mistakenly believe that they are doing the Father’s Will, but their Savior will reject them entirely. (Matthew 13:42, 25:30; Luke 13:28; Mark 10:32-34) This, dear friends, is not a place where anyone that loves the Elohim of Hosts, wants to be. (Matthew 24) Simply put, you don’t become great through your efforts. That spirit is not of Elohim [YHWH]. (Mark 10:17-31) Those that put the things of the world first, at best, will be last. Those that put Elohim’s Kingdom first, continually seeking Him over deception, will be first. “But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” In context with what Yahshua [Jesus] spoke, many – including the rich man that He had spoken with, would not be willing to follow His counsel (Matthew 6:33), placing their relationship with YHWH in danger. Wealth and the trappings of worldly lifestyle, even the desire for respect and recognition easily become idolatry, just as the desire and the refusal to obey the counsel of the Messiah is idolatry, putting personal importance above the spiritual plight of others and above the Kingdom of YHWH. (Matthew 25) This is self-deceived rebellion against the Father that can be undone when you realize the error. (“The Idolatry Factor“; “Video: What is Idolatry?“; “Are You a Christian First or Last?“; “Serving for YHWH’s Glory“)

“And they were bringing little children for Him to touch them, but the taught ones were rebuking those who were bringing them.  And when Yahshua [Jesus] saw it, He was much displeased and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the reign of Elohim. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the reign of Elohim as a little child, shall certainly not enter into it.’ And taking them up in His arms, laying His hands on them, He blessed them.” – Mark 10:13-16, ISR98

listeningAs students and yes, children of the Elohim of Hosts [YHWH], disciples must be prepared to always listen to Him. This requires a mind of humility, openness and obedience. Each disciple is to rightly divide the Word of YHWH, set apart from the knowledge of the world, continually learning and seeking the truth that only He can provide. All must be willing to fully accept the testament of the Master and His teaching over all else. Hardness of heart is what every Christian must walk away from. (Mark 10:1-10) With the Father, all things are possible, but He must be first above all authority in your eyes. (“Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“; “What Lifestyle Are You Pursuing?“; “Secession of the Heart“; “Hardened Hearts: Strengthening the Brotherhood in Messiah“)

“And seeing at a distance a fig tree having leaves, He went to see whether He would find any fruit on it. And when He came to it, He found none but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.  And Yahshua [Jesus], responding, said to it, ‘Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.’ And His taught ones heard it.” – Mark 11:13-14, ISR98

fruitless-fig-tree-300x225Much of the professed body of the Messiah has become just as the fig tree in Mark 11. That fig tree bore no fruit and stood condemned. Spiritually fruitless Christianity and its residents stand condemned in the same way. This is not a good thing for them. They have been deceived, as the curse of nations is certain to come against them. (Matthew 8:11; Deuteronomy 28:15-61)

“And in the morning, passing by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. Then Kĕpha [Peter], remembering, said to Him, ‘Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered.’  And Yahshua [Jesus] answering, said to them, ‘Have belief in Elohim. For truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says, shall be done, he shall have whatever he says. Because of this I say to you, whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. And whenever you stand praying, if you hold whatever against anyone, forgive, so that your Father in the heavens shall also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither shall your Father in the heavens forgive your trespasses.” – Mark 11:20-26, ISR98 (Acts 2:38-39)

holy spiritTrust in YHWH, the Elohim of Hosts, His Word, the teaching of the Messiah and the life-saving activity of the Holy Spirit is a requirement. (Acts 2:17-21; Joel 2:28-32) This sets the scene for all other blessings, including your willingness to forgive. To do otherwise, interferes with a clean heart and forgiveness from the Father. Like the scribes and Pharisees, the world and those in it continually question the authority of YHWH and His Son. They refuse the operation of the Holy Spirit and instead dwell in humanism. Disciples of the Most High look only to His Kingdom as their significance, set apart from idolatry. (Matthew 11:27-33; John 16:7; Acts 1:6-8) Clearly, we are living in the last days. Because of this, disciples of the Master must display the gifts of YHWH’s Spirit as full abundance of spiritual fruit. “For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
