Attitude and the Disciple of Messiah

life lessons

“Let the lowly (tapeinos) brother boast in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he shall pass away. For the sun rose with burning heat, and withered the grass, and its flower fell, and its pretty appearance perished. So also the rich man shall fade away in his ways.” – James 1:9-11, ISR98

“Blessed are the poor (ptochos) in spirit, because theirs is the reign of the heavens. Blessed are those who mourn, because they shall be comforted.” – Matthew 5:3-4, ISR98

proud or humble?

The predominant attitude of the modern world loves extravagance, comfort and wealth. Some religions teach that poverty is commendable. What ptochos (Yahshua, Jesus) and tapeinos (James) are both relating to is humility in spirit (Micah 6:8), although the text in Greek indicates those in distressed situations or financial paupers can rejoice. (Proverbs 28:6, 11) Why? Simply put, the wealthy have a major problem. The idolatry of their wealth and comfort is always before them as a constant distraction. (Isaiah 55:8-9; Matthew 7:13-14; “Video: What is Idolatry?“; “The Idolatry Factor“; “Are You Running Away from Messiah?“)

Even though the poor are able to covet this wealth, power and privilege, thereby creating their own spiritual crisis, the truly humble-hearted don’t have this problem because they don’t lust after wealth and the privilege of the world. (Proverbs 30:8-9) It’s a matter of spiritual mindset (through deliverance by your Heavenly Father and your personal cooperation) over whatever temptations are common to mankind. (1 Peter 5:5-9) In fact, disciples of the Messiah often find themselves in distressed circumstances because of their personal stand for righteousness. (Proverbs 22:17-19) What Yahshua [Jesus] promises to those in distress is the comfort of the Spirit. When you know what distress really is, you can truly appreciate comfort or relief from the pangs of distress. (Romans 8:22-28) As the appearance of a negative circumstance in life abates, the blessings of YHWH are appreciated and championed even more. (John 15:19, 17:14; James 1:27. 4:4; 1 John 2:15-17; “Plans To Prosper You“; “Understanding Real Prosperity“; “Disciples in the Face of Persecution“)

authority-of-the-worldWhatever the case, YHWH’s way is not the way of the world. (2 Timothy 2:22) You must be ready to do and say what seems strange to the world. You must be willing to give when other take, to love when others hate and to help when others oppress and abuse. Both Yahshua [Jesus] the Master and James contrast YHWH’s Kingdom values with the values of the world. Even superficial faith and genuine faith through real and active trust contrast each other. To be blessed is joy and confidence through living in the righteousness of your Heavenly Father. Outward circumstances are diminished in importance. More importantly, in YHWH’s Kingdom, power, authority and wealth have no importance. YHWH, the Elohim of Hosts, has everything you need. (Psalm 81:11-14; “Life Healing and Belief“; “YHWH’s Revolution“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“)

attitudeDetermining your attitude calls for personal examination of your heart and mind. YHWH’s people seek different benefits and lifestyle where the world is concerned. YHWH’s people have different attitudes from the pervasive selfishness and pride of the world. YHWH’s people also come to understand that persecution, when it comes always brings endurance and witness for Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. When opposition comes, disciples of Messiah rise to the challenge instead of constantly shrinking back in fear. (Mark 8:36-38; Matthew 11:28-29; Isaiah 64:5; Ezekiel 18:24-30; “How YHWH Marks His People“)

“So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of Elohim [YHWH]. Therefore put away all filthiness and overflow of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your lives.” – James 1:19-21, ISR98

“You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,’ and whoever murders shall be liable to judgment. But I say to you that whoever is wroth with his brother without a cause shall be liable to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raka!’ shall be liable to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to fire of Gehenna. ” – Matthew 5:21-22, ISR98

unbrotherly-loveAnger is a prominent stepping-stone towards destruction. In the same way, each man, woman and child is in danger when we talk too much and listen too little. James wisely says that disciples must reverse this process. Every disciple must pay attention to what they say and whether they are really listening to others. Anger often erupts because you feel hurt or feel threatened in some way. (“The Truth About Anger“; “The Stronghold of Anger“; “Anger: When Your Temper Flares“)

Perhaps you feel that your opinions are being ignored. Selfish anger and judgment never serves anyone well. (1 John 2:16-17) Through the application of YHWH’s Word, each disciple is to personally examine self instead of examining and judging others. The Bible is your mirror. (James 1:22-25) Selfish anger and rage are the opposite of what your Savior and Master died for. Self-serving emotions only escalate the hold (or stronghold) that sin and death have over you, overshadowing the operation of the Holy Spirit in you. (1 Corinthians 1:27-30; Proverbs 3:5-7; “Bible: Wisdom 101“)

“So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath showed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” – James 2:12-13, WoY

“Blessed are the compassionate, because they shall obtain compassion. Blessed are the clean in heart, because they shall see Elohim.” – Matthew 5:7-8, ISR98

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father shall also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither shall your Father forgive your trespasses.” – Matthew 6:14-15, ISR98

reap and sow

How easily all humans forget in the heat of the moment that we reap what we sow. An unkind word quickly escalates to personal judgment, first on your part, and then against you as the return of YHWH’s law. Mercy and forgiveness always triumph over judgment. In this way, each of us receives mercy. As disciples of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah, each of us must be willingly cleansed by Elohim’s Word. The pure in heart, with the absence of malice and hatred, will see (optanomai) Him. (Psalm 24:4, 51:10) Each of us, in this way, opens his spiritual eyes wide to Bible truth, to deeper understanding. (Proverbs 4:23; Titus 1:15-16, 3:5)

Operating in a pure heart is more than sincerity. A pure heart is actively seeking The Way of the Messiah, as you put aside the old man of the world. It is up to each disciple of Messiah to abide in the conditions that fulfill YHWH’s promises as you open up your heart to your Father, the Elohim of Hosts. The ways of YHWH are truly remarkable. (Isaiah 40:1-31) Each of us is accountable and truly blessed to see the truth of the matter. (1 Timothy 1:5; Psalm 129:1; Proverbs 22:6; “The Struggle for Purity of Heart“; “Purity Starts Inside: A Lesson Through the Ages“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
