Putting Down the Titanic Pride of Man – Placing Satan Under Your Feet

by John and Ruth Greene

“Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, ‘If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear (bastazo; bear or lift) his (hautou; his own) cross (stauros) and come after Me cannot be My disciple.’” – Luke 14:25-27, NKJV

While the description made by Yahshua [Jesus] may seem extreme by standards today when you take what He says literally, He is pointing out the great commitment or devotion required to be His disciple. Anyone that is not willing to bear his own torture stake or cross unto death cannot be a disciple of the Master. He spoke this truth before His own crucifixion, declaring the importance of devotion in the face of all persecution or opposition. This is a matter of the heart, a decision of the mind. What is more, this statement indicates the self-denial required to separate yourself from the world around you to follow Him, in contrast to multitudes that may do otherwise as they follow the authority of the world. (Matthew 10:37-38; Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8; “Deceptions of Ages: How People are Deceived“; “The Bible & Higher Authority“; “The Real Meaning of Romans 13“)

holy-fire-baptismDevotion is essential in serving your Heavenly Father through the example that Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah set. His eternal sacrifice made Him your High Priest. (Hebrews 4:14, 5:1-10) The teaching of the Holy Spirit makes devotion and commitment possible under the most unpleasant of circumstances since He helps disciples to line up their lives closer to the Will of YHWH. (John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Acts 2:32-33) You are never alone unless you choose to be by rejecting Him and the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, when you don’t know scripture, you don’t know how to submit to His authority. Submission is not about showing off, but bringing your heart into line with the Bible in humility, a challenge for most any man or woman, especially a man or woman full of the world. The advice of the Master to His audience was not about creating excitement and titillation, but about creating separation. (“The Unpardonable Sin“; “Bible Truth: What is a Christian?“)

Yahshua [Jesus] continues to make the point. “’For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish?’” – Luke 14:28-30, NKJV

A tower was a place of defense or observation, erected on high places or in vineyards, to guard against enemies. The tower was made higher to enable the defender to see an enemy when he approached in order to protect the stronghold and the surrounding territory. (Matthew 21:33) You are an agent of your own defense through your devotion and commitment to the cause of the Messiah, your Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit. A tower may have cost silver or gold to build, but a higher level of commitment is indicated or else faith or devotion is incomplete when not defended by the Holy Spirit. (“The Book of Amos: Everyone Answers to YHWH“; “The Real Power Behind Baptism“; “The Call of YHWH’s Watchman“; “Called to Have Confidence in Christ“)

He encouraged the superficial to go deeper or to turn back to their old life. Living a lukewarm superficial trust in YHWH doesn’t make the grade. (Revelation 3:15-18) A lukewarm trust has darkness and is not from the Holy Spirit. Ananias and Saphira thought they could get away with a lie, but genuine trust has no room for this kind of darkness. (Acts 5:1-11; Matthew 25:1-13; the foolish virgins) Following the example of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah means total submission and devotion, not to be entered into without regard or care. Perhaps even to the point of death. Are you prepared if that was necessary or are you a fair-weather disciple? Seriously, can a fair-weather disciple really exist? Hardly! Trust isn’t about show or pretense, to get up and sing in a beautiful voice or to have a beautiful preaching sound for a pleasurable experience or for entertaining an audience through people pleasing. (“Disciple of Messiah: Live Your Belief“; “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“)

the BibleWhile your understanding may not be complete in every way, the Holy Spirit is your Counselor, to teach you and complete you in the Messiah. He isn’t a devil as some would say (because they don’t agree with His ways), but the Spirit of Elohim. (Matthew 9:34, 12:24) If you are bent on displaying your own attitudes through the old man, you sell yourself short every time. (Ephesians 4:24; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:5-10; Romans 6:4-6) The ways of the old man are death. You are missing the provision of freedom that Yahshua [Jesus] provided for you. Will your Christian life be only half built and abandoned because you didn’t count the cost? Disciples may face a loss of worldly social status in order to achieve that personal commitment. You may lose popularity and the feeling of control you have become accustomed to. You may become separated from your family because of rejection. The cost is real as many will take sides against you. YHWH will bring you through because you are willing to trust, to rely on Him. (2 Peter 3:18; Philippians 2:12; James 4:8; “What Is Washing By The Word?“; “Psalm 91: Lifestyle & Protection“)

When you rely on Him through Yahshua [Jesus] your Savior, He is your provision instead of the world. YHWH replaces what you may lose. Roll with the punches as a witness to the world. Following Yahshua [Jesus] does not mean a trouble free life neither does He expect you to shrink back in fear. Don’t be tempted to turn back to your old life or you will become as used salt, useless for the Kingdom of YHWH! Only through Messiah and the Holy Spirit, intimately connected with YHWH, can any disciple overcome and gain victory over Satan and his world. (“YHWH’s Faithful: Victory in Spiritual Battle“)

“’Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. “Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!’” – Luke 14:31-35, NKJV

saltSalt can lose its flavor when it gets wet and dries. Nothing is left but a tasteless residue. Blending into the world ‘avoids’ the cost of Messiah, but Yahshua [Jesus] said if disciples lose their distinctive saltiness, they become worthless. Just as salt preserves food, disciples are to preserve the Heavenly Father’s good in the world. Like salt, disciples of Messiah bring new flavor to life when they commit to YHWH’s Kingdom. Your refusal to waver strengthens your commitment, to live for YHWH as you fight the father of lies and place him under your feet through the Messiah. “For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
