Everybody has a name. You name your dog. Scientists even name the chimps on popular nature shows. We can’t seem to help ourselves. Man names everyone and everything right in line with what the Father told Adam to do. (Genesis 2:20) We can’t resist naming anything until it comes to the Almighty Elohim that so many profess to worship. Most people think His Name is ‘God.’ Who does know His Name? It certainly isn’t ‘THE LORD’ that so many call Him. God and Lord are capitlized pagan titles. A god refers to what the Bible calls a worthless or dungy idol. A lord refers to a god of the world like Baal or an adopted title of the authority of man. Yet, these names are what common religious practice has named Him.
Somewhere in many Bibles you may find an explanation like this: “THE LORD refers to the divine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton.” Sadly, this debacle plays into religious superstition initially founded by the Jews, which plays into the hands of Satan more than it respects the ‘God’ that so many claim to worship. In the meantime, somewhere in the front of your Bible, you receive the following explanation or its counterpart: “The translators adopted the device used in most versions of rendering the name “LORD” in capital letters to distinguish it from Adonai, another Hebrew word used as Lord, for which small letters are used.” Tradition spreads it pretty thick, but has few satisfying answers as to why substituting with ‘God’ is in vogue. We all assume that we are talking about the same G-d, but are we really? Few mention that YWHW’s [Yahweh] correct title is El or Elohim. That makes Him different, sets Him apart from the gods of the world.
I could reveal the history and wax poetically about the history of superstition and mysticism. The results wouldn’t be very satisfying. However, you can check on this yourself and fully realize that many have been deceived for a long time with a lot of words and plenty of explanation as to why ‘God’s Name’ – which is actually Elohim’s Name – has been highjacked.
“The name is used in some English Bible translations which reconstruct the Tetragrammaton; other versions sometimes use the academic Hebrew reconstruction “Yah”. Some languages use the letter “I” instead of “Y” or “J”: This should not be confused with the phonetically, theologically, and historically unrelated Egyptian god Iah. Other languages use CH (Choctaw), S (Tongan), and Z (Chin).”
What this really boils down to is that Satan and complicit mankind has been working really hard to cloud the name of Elohim Almighty while pretending to respect Him, which is apparently a favorite past time. More recent ‘scholars’ probably didn’t do us any favor by latinizing or romanizing His Name and creating the name Jehovah. But hey, at least if we were all calling Him by one name, wouldn’t that be something? One of the foremost reasons that some professed Christians run from the name Jehovah is this name is attached to that falsehood known as Jehovah’s Witnesses. I don’t blame them for running the other way, and besides, Jehovah isn’t Elohim’s Name. The creation of the name Jehovah is an interesting quick study by itself. Technically, the origins of this name Jehovah seems to be study in guesswork as well, although perhaps we can grant the early Germans with that invention. I wouldn’t want to take credit for misappropriation and deception either. That is why we have ceased using the name Jehovah here in this ministry – we actually did for a time. The original language of the Bible must be our standard.
One name still stands in the original language. It’s Yahweh or Yahveh, depending on who you listen to. That being said, YHWH, the representation of Elohim’s real name stands the test of time. The ‘tetragrammaton’ means something. Those four Hebrew letters (no vowels) is what we have of His Name. Yah-weh. Yah is a well-respected shortening of His Name that is sometimes used. (Psalm 68:4) There is more though. The letters of the tetragrammaton that you see above were created when Israel was taken captive by Babylon. During that 70 years, the Hebrews or Jews adopted what is commonly called Hebrew. Yet, before that, Hebrew took another form that you rarely see, which is commonly called ‘paleo Hebrew,’ as if ‘cave men’ used it.
However, ‘translators’ and Christian theology tend to cover all this up with LORD and ‘God.’ How do you glorify the name of ‘God’ when you don’t know His Name and are afraid to use it? G-d? Hardly. You don’t. Instead, Satan turns himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) to the point that you no longer really know who ‘God’ is when you are listening to someone else, especially when they are mixing up Bible truth for another gospel. What’s worse, the religions of the world have taken to deciding on their favorite god and capitalizing that as the name of their god. Add the interfaith movement and you begin to have a real problem with who ‘God’ really is.
That is the problem that mankind faces today and what Satan delights in. People aren’t really listening to YHWH’s Word at all, but re-creating it. Since YHWH, the representation of His Name occurs approximately 6528 times, why aren’t we using His Name and properly representing it?
“And Elohim said moreover unto Moses, ‘Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Yahweh Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.'” – Exodus 3:15, WoY
As disciples of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah and the Almighty YHWH, we must start being honest with ourselves. Just as we need to be specific in knowing the Word of Elohim as well as His Spirit, we need to be specific about the name of the Most High, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob. Why? There is no other, nor can there be a substitute. (Hebrews 2:2; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“; “Holy Spirit 101“)
