Welcoming Trust With Sincere Hospitality

by John and Ruth Greene

foundation of trust‘Religion’ has brought many things into professed Christianity which is often called ‘faith.’ Because a general lack of understanding, many professed disciples have forgotten about real hospitality and genuine interest in other people, including the weak in belief and those new in their local gathering. All disciples of the Messiah have a real purpose in spreading Bible truth, including having a valid and personal interest in other people. (“Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “How YHWH Marks His People“; “Living in the Now“)

“Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things.” – Romans 14:1, NKJV

This verse could be expressed more accurately in this way: “Be hospitable (Aramaic; lend him a hand) to the feeble in trust (belief), not to disputing discernment.”

brotherly love requiredDisciples of the Messiah are to welcome those that are spiritually sick and inexperienced so that all can be exposed to the spiritual depths of Elohim’s [YHWH] truth through study, prayer and the operation of the Sanctified Holy Spirit. Genuine disciples don’t bring the wickedness of the world into the gathering of the people of the Messiah, but zealously guard the pure knowledge and personal relationship with YHWH through Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. As part of personal devotion, disciples welcome those that need spiritual help, which technically every man, woman and child needs. (Consider Romans 13) Instead of casting judgment on others, disciples are to apply Elohim’s law of love as they grow in discernment. The law of love is not an excuse to permit apostasy. Brotherly love doesn’t demand supremacy on trivial matters. (“Wavering Between Two Opinions“; “Messiah & the Tool of Envy“; “Prospering Your Family“; “Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“; “Giving to Others While Trusting in YHWH for Your Needs“; “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“)

The writer of Romans considers diet or eating as one of these lesser matters, in stark contrast to the teaching of the Jews. The same could be said of honoring one day over the other. In this case, the writer is referring to Jewish festival days or pagan festivals that “Gentile” believers may have honored in the past (even though understanding the Jewish festival days were the shadow of things to come; what we are living in now). Disciples were not to continue to be in bondage to the past with the fulfillment of the Messiah. (Romans 14:5-6; Mark 2:28; Galatians 4:9-11) In daily life, a disciple that honors Elohim every day is guilty of no sin. Beyond the Sabbath (which precedes the Mosaic Law) or the Messiah’s Supper (a time of remembrance  instituted by Yahshua [Jesus]), the meaning of every day is a matter of abiding in the teaching of Messiah and not retreating into lesser things, and the things of the world. (Matthew 26:1-30; Mark 14:12-26; Luke 22:14-23; John 13:1-35) Yahshua [Jesus] fulfilled or completed the law through His completed sacrifice. Christians are encouraged to look forward rather than backward to the past, but according to the Bible writer in those days, those that came from Judaism could operate as their convictions demanded. The truth is that ritual and legalism saves nobody. No substitute exists for real trust. This trust is not in earthly things or in ritual, but in YHWH’s Kingdom. Each disciple is subject to his own convictions, the teaching of Yahshua [Jesus] and the power of the Holy Spirit. (“Lifestyle: Where Do You Place Your Trust?“; “Ambassadors for Messiah? Trust in His Promises“; “Disciple: Learning to Live in Trust“) Yet, because of this, there remain certain elements of danger for all disciples of Messiah:

“Who are you that judges another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. But he shall be made to stand, for Elohim is able to make him stand.” – Romans 14:4, ISR98

discern both good and evilA constant danger exists in judging one another based on opinion and preference. Ultimately, how each disciple stands before the teaching of Messiah and the operation of the Holy Spirit is a personal matter. To many, this is a difficult matter. However, these matters (judging, standing) are personal, not corporate matters of man. No church, agency or person is to rise above YHWH in idolatry, pretending to do YHWH’s Will through making an official judgment on the value of a member in the gathering of Messiah. A disciple does not have many masters, only One, which he or she must obey. Remember that disciples of the Messiah live their lives before Elohim, obviously based on their own lives rather than the judgment of leaders in a ‘church’ or other body of approval. (Romans 14:7-8) All are judged accordingly by the Spirit of YHWH and through the High Priest authority of the Messiah, not by a brother, sister or a professed leader. YHWH wants His anointed spiritual people to look at a larger picture instead of focusing on one another. (Matthew 7:3, 23:23-24; straining gnats, etc.) Once again, disciples are to operate in the law of love. Judging is left to the Kingdom of YHWH apart from the discernment of men and women. (“Disciple: Love Instead of Conformity“; “Sin & the Law of Liberty“; “Knowledge of Good and Evil“)

“For this, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘You shall not covet,’ and if there is any other command, is summed up in this word, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no evil to a neighbor. Therefore, love is completion of the Torah. And do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for us to wake up from sleep, for now our deliverance is nearer than when we did believe. The night is far advanced, the day has come near. So let us put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk becomingly, as in the day, not in wild parties and drunkenness, not in living together and indecencies, not in fighting and envy, but put on the Master Yahshua Messiah, and make no provision for the lusts of the flesh. ” – Romans 13:9-14, ISR98

read your Bible dailyTrust expressed through brotherly love is radical stuff to the world. It is the sacred charge of all disciples of Messiah. Disciples are to honor one another as walking separately before YHWH without judging on debatable matters. What are these debatable matters? Any matter that isn’t covered by scripture is a matter of choice. However, when a disciple operates in the Holy Spirit, loves the Word of Elohim and obeys Bible truth, the rightly divided Word is your law, written on your heart. Disciples put on the new man in Messiah. Your trust becomes evident. It bears fruit. The fruit of your life tells you where your trust is in a very real way. Where does your trust lie? (James 1:21-27; “Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “Christianity: A Crisis in Prayer & Spirit“; “What is God’s ‘Church’?“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
