Doctrine Is What You Do

by John Greene

“All scripture given by inspiration of Yahweh, indeed is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of Elohim may be complete, throughly furnished unto all good works. ” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17, WoY

read your Bible dailyWhen Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, scripture as we know it today wasn’t complete. In those days, he was referring to the Torah and the Prophets, what many today call the ‘Old Testament.’ This methodical recording of trust started with Moses and an earthly priesthood, an experimental nation of ‘stiff necked’ people that YHWH adopted. (Exodus 32:9, 33:3; Deuteronomy 9:6; Nehemiah 9:17, 29; Psalm 78:8; Jeremiah 7:26; Acts 7:51-60; 1 Corinthians 10:1-5; “How YHWH Marks His People“; “YHWH’s Revolution“)

Moses was a fixer and excelled at it. He resolved conflict as an expression of his personality, which YHWH was able to use to great advantage. Over the years, Moses had learned to react correctly as he developed his relationship with YHWH. He took Moses as he was and through spiritual growth, molded Moses for a special purpose. He became a buffer for the strife of ancient Israel. But he had weakness which was exposed by constant conflict. The conflict distracted him from his relationship from YHWH. Why didn’t Moses see the Promised Land? (1 Corinthians 10:1-13; Numbers 19-21) He was disqualified through a singular act of anger, a pattern of anger that he often repeated despite his humility. (Exodus 2:11-15. 32:19; Deuteronomy 9:16-17; Numbers 12:3) Instead of pointing to YHWH, he elevated himself to an idol through his own frustration. While Moses was shaped by YHWH for quite some time, Elohim didn’t change who Moses was as a person. In one heated moment, Moses forgot the doctrine (learning, teaching) that he had learned firsthand from YHWH. (Romans 12:1-2; “Filling Your Life With Truth Instead of Deception“; “Abiding With YHWH in Quiet Places“)

Moses striking for waterThose that profess to be the ‘church of God‘ often elevate the idea of doctrine (G1319, didaskalia), while forgetting that doctrine is simply teaching (or learning what you willingly apply). These people use all kinds of fancy words to describe Bible teaching and learning. Doctrine can be true or false, another factor that is readily forgotten as Christian leaders continually point at ‘the church’ as master. (Matthew 7:28, 15:9, 16:12, 22:33; Mark 1:22, 27; John 7:16; 1 Timothy 1:3-11, 4:15, 6:3-5; Titus 1:9-16, 2:1; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“; “Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “The Truth About the Tithe“)

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” – 2 Timothy 4:3-5, NKJV

“Yahshua [Jesus] answered them, and said, “My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent Me. If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of Elohim, or whether I speak of Myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own honor: but he that seeketh His honor that sent Him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?” – John 7:16-19, WoY (the law is the measuring stick for sin)

Yahshua [Jesus] is our Master, the One that we must listen to. He is the High Priest the completes us to Elohim [YHWH]. You put true teaching to work in your life and obey it, proving your love for YHWH. Your life shows it. Words that you use and live reflect what doctrine you accept. As you seek Bible truth, the Doctrine of YHWH, the Word of Messiah becomes what you do! When you learn that a practice in your life doesn’t match with scripture, you cast it out of your life. Elohim’s teaching becomes what you do! YHWH and the Word of Messiah becomes a part of you. (“Redeemed Through Obedience & Faith“; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith & Obedience to His Word“)

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, NKJV

mark-of-YHWHs-SpiritThe leadership for Messiah, the Sanctiified Holy Spirit within you is your mark. This leadership is direct involvement in His Word, expressing it in your life and actions. Perfection isn’t required for the sacrifice of your Messiah took care of any shortcomings. Once you learn what is in scripture, you want to be consistent in obedience because of love, evidence of your appreciation. It burns in your heart. (Jeremiah 20:9, 23:29; Psalm 39:3; Luke 24:32) This consistence is best developed during times of less stress. This consistence becomes a pattern so that during tough times and high stress, you are ready to obey. You become molded to His purpose. Your obedience unites with your trust to create effective spiritual action. (Acts 23:6-13) You avoid being stubborn and resistant to YHWH’s Word that you read in scripture. You search for deeper truth as your understanding grows. You look to the guidance of the Holy Spirit instead of men, remembering that the cure for a stiff neck is repentance! (Mark 16:11-14; “Holy Spirit 101“; “Promise of the Holy Spirit“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
