A Tough Tongue Creates Tough Times

by John Greene

the tough tongueOn the news and other public media you hear all the human emotions, ranging from confidence to doubt to fear. In government, you will find no more powerful tool than public professions and policy. The tongue, whether in your mouth or figuratively through the pen or the computer can have immense power, especially when it comes to destruction. What comes out of your mouth can, and often does, light a fire of destruction, especially in personal relationships. This is absolutely true when anger, bitterness, envy and doubt rule in your life. I can personally testify to this in my own life, whether out of my mouth or the mouth of someone else. (Matthew 5:21-24; James 4:1-2; Psalm 39:3; Isaiah 5:20-24; Proverbs 21:23; “Life Healing and Belief“; “Christian: Live Your Belief“)

“So too the tongue is a little member, yet boasts greatly. See how a little fire kindles a great forest! And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Among our members the tongue is set, the one defiling the entire body, and setting on fire the wheel of life, and it is set on fire by Gehenna.” – James 3:5-6, ISR98

family strife stressThe mind and heart are the driving force behind the tongue. A tongue of fire grounded in iniquity through pride, bitterness and doubt cannot be used by the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:3; Matthew 3:11) The action of what you say easily sets your life on fire. (Proverbs 16:27, 26:18-22) In the original text, James says that the untamed tongue ignites a fire of unrighteousness, a decoration that stains the course of your life while setting you on the path to eternal destruction. This destruction is likened to gehenna, where Jews burned their sons and daughters in the fire to Baal or Moloch in the valley of Hinnom outside of Jerusalem. In other words, Christians easily make an offering to Satan with personal speech and conduct. Each of us is especially at risk, being marked through double-minded thinking, a plague that rules much of the modern world today, if not the ages. (“Standing Strong Through Storms“; “The Abomination That Causes Desolation“; “Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“)

built on sandWith spiritual maturity comes a healthy measure of self-control, a natural quality that most of us lack. What is worse is that double-minded thinking and actions separate disciples from the Heavenly Father [YHWH] and His purpose. (Matthew 12:33-37; James 3:8; Proverbs 12:18, 15:4) You are better off keeping silent than continually sowing what you speak, even though this is easier said than done for most of us. (1 Peter 3:10; James 1:26; Psalm 1:1-6; Proverbs 29:20; Ecclesiastes 3:7; “The Miracle of Living Water“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“; “The Real Power Behind Baptism“)

“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit which dwells in us intensely crave unto envy? But He gives greater favor. Because of this He says, ‘Elohim resists the proud, but gives favor to the humble.’ So then subject yourselves to Elohim. Resist the devil and he shall flee from you. Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!” – James 4:4-8, ISR98

Most professed Christians place themselves in great danger on a daily basis through poor habits, the lack of love and the failure to heed scripture. Even though the grace of YHWH is great, when a disciple of the Messiah is like the world, he or she can easily become an enemy of Elohim [YHWH]. The profession of love and trust quickly becomes a minefield of doubt, negativity, pride and strife. All disciples become hypocrites through the lack of repentance through Yahshua [Jesus], our High Priest. (Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 6:42-49, 12:2; John 8:37-44, 12:36; Luke 13:1-35; 2 Peter 2:9-14, 3:9; Romans 12:1-2; James 1:8, 22-24; Psalm 12:3-4; “Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “YHWH’s Threshing Floor“; “Healing Wounds That People Can’t See“)

new man in Christ bookThe wisdom and love of YHWH, with the power and counsel of the Holy Spirit, enable you to control your tongue, just as other actions in your life. You begin and continue to walk in YHWH’s track of righteousness as a new man, applying what you know through the teaching and witness of Yahshua [Jesus].  A disciple is completed through His truth in the Way of the Messiah. As you are reading this, know that you are on YHWH’s track of righteousness. With your personal repentance (turning aside from the sins and iniquity of your past), your active trust in the sacrifice of Yahshua [Jesus], your personal commitment to YHWH and the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, you show your love and appreciation for the sacrifices made on your behalf, for your salvation. You begin the course of healing your life! Welcome to your new life, as you renew it with full trust and devotion, looking only to YHWH’s Kingdom. (John 7:18, 8:27; “How YHWH Marks His People“; “YHWH’s Promise to His Elect“; “What Is Washing By The Word?“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
