by John and Ruth Greene
As time passes in this modern age and the world becomes more secular through seeking its own knowledge, the idea of healing through the Father and the Messiah by the Holy Spirit has met increasing resistance. However, this is not a new resistance. In Acts 3, a lame man was healed (Acts 3:7, 11) through the “laying on of hands.” The Jews around them marveled, followed by a rebuke from Peter against the crucifixion of Yahshua [Jesus]. Minds and hearts were changed. The authorities of the temple bristled with angst. Peter and John were arrested by the temple guard at the insistence of the Sadducees and put before the Sanhedrin the following day. (“The Bible & Higher Authority“, “The Role of Authority in Your Life“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“)
“And it came to pass the following day, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, and Hanan the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, ‘By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?’ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, ‘Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Yahshua the Messiah of Nazareth, whom ye impaled, whom Elohim raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’” – Acts 4:5-12, WoY
Many of the members of Sanhedrin were greatly threatened by this miracle, fearing for their authority, but were unable to deny the reality of what had happened. Most of this ruling body did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. They dreaded and hated Yahshua [Jesus]. They were also heavily invested in Roman rule and their personal prosperity through Roman rule. As a result, they made a ruling that forbid the disciples to speak at all about Yahshua [Jesus]. How did Peter and John respond? (“Healing & Belief“; “Healing Wounds That People Can’t See“)
“…’Whether it be right in the sight of Elohim to hearken unto you more than unto Elohim, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.’” – Acts 4:19-20, WoY
In essence, Peter and John challenged the authority of the Sanhedrin, and by implication, the Romans as well. YHWH had the overriding authority in their lives. These rulers could not devise a way to punish the disciples, nor could they devise a legal technicality to apply to them, and sent them on their way. They greatly feared punishing the disciples because of the groundswell of support by the people.
After this trial, believers met together and testified about what had happened. As a group, they prayed for continued boldness even though the nations raged against the reality of the Messiah. (Psalm 2:1-2) Remember 4:12: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Many people, especially those that seek their own authority, resist the name of Yahshua [Jesus], as well as healing through the Holy Spirit. Multitudes would prefer to make their own way to salvation. (John 14:6) Those that profess authority are the same way. As the Way, Yahshua [Jesus] is your only path to the Father. As the Truth, He is the reality of YHWH’s promises. As the Life, He joins His divine life to every disciple, both now and forever.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”– John 14:12-21, NKJV
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:26-27
This judgment says it all:
“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.” – John 14:23-24
In conclusion, modern disciples of the Messiah must decide what they love and who they will serve. Admittedly, Christians need to show their love through obedience. Love is more than words. Love is commitment and conduct. You prove your love through obedience. (Matthew 7:13-14; John 8:12, 14:6, 15; Acts 4:12; 1 John 2:3)
We must not become enraged over healing as an expression of Father YHWH’s personal love, nor must we deny it. Healing in your life, your ongoing testimony is part of your personal walk as you listen to the Words of Yahshua [Jesus] and apply scripture to your life! Now is the time to examine and measure the course of your life! (“Christian: Your Basis of Trust“)
