YHWH’s Protection in Difficult Times

by John and Ruth Greene

World ExplosionYou are living in a time of uncertainty that is as unique as it is global. Resting on the rock of YHWH, being anchored in trust is essential for all believers. (Matthew 16:18; Luke 6:48) Elohim [YHWH] doesn’t promise a world free of danger. He does promise His help whenever His people face danger and temporary uncertainty in life; for Elohim’s people have the certainty of a foundation in Messiah, the provision of His Word and the Holy Spirit. Who are His people? His people are those individuals that listen and obey as they operate in correct instruction through His Spirit. His people are those that learn to rest in Him. (Psalm 23:1-4) Fear is perhaps the greatest enemy of a disciple of the Messiah. YHWH is your shelter when fear rises up, grounded in your personal trust of the Almighty and His provision for you through His purpose. (Ecclesiastes 3:11; 1 Corinthians 2:14) You trade fear for trust through the saving provision of Messiah. To do this, you must learn to abide in Him, in His Presence. (Psalm 91:1; 1 Peter 1:12; Matthew 13:49) When you entrust your well-being to His protection and honor Him with your devotion, you can be kept safe. (“YHWH’s Faithful: Victory in Spiritual Battle“; “YHWH’s Prayer Shawl of Protection“; “YHWH Will Provide for You“; “What You Should Be Optimistic About“)

“He that abides in the secret place of the Most High will continue in the shade of the Almighty. I will say of YHWH, ‘He is my shelter and stronghold, my Elohim whom I will trust. Most certainly, He will deliver me from out of net of the fowler, from out of pestilence and ruin.’ He will cover you under His wings, and beneath His wings you will flee for protection. His stability is your hook and shield. You will not fear of the alarm by night, from the arrows that cover you by day, from the pestilence that walks in darkness, from the destruction that devastates at noon. A thousand will fall from your side, a myriad at your right hand. It will not come near you. Although your eyes may look intently at and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have appointed YHWH as your shelter even the Most High your dwelling, no evil will come near you, nor plague near your home.” – Psalm 91:1-10, direct translation

sticky-messengerFather Elohim offers His protection in another way as well. YHWH has messengers, in Greek “aggelos” or angels. In this secular age, many scoff at angels and demons as imaginary creatures of the mind or as cinematic devices. (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 3:1) The traditions of many religions often lend to this attitude of rejection. Angels in scripture are both heavenly and earthly. Did you know that believers are to be messengers of YHWH’s Word in much the same way as heavenly messengers of the past? The original text of scripture doesn’t quibble between the two. (Acts 5:19-20; Colossian 1:16-17; 1 John 4:1-4; Hebrews 13:2) Angels in scripture are often seen as heavenly messengers, functioning like shepherds that watch over faithful and obedient believers to keep them from striking their ‘foot against a stone.’ Another important task of angels is to operate in battles of spiritual warfare behind the earthly scene. (Daniel 10:1-21; Revelation 12:7-9, 17:14) When you are in Elohim’s Will, you are involved in spiritual warfare on an earthly level. (Hebrews 1:14; 1 Kings 19:5; Daniel 6:22; Matthew 18:10; Luke 16:22; Acts 12:7) Instead of being limited by a Jewish or traditional understanding of angels, all open-hearted believers can have the Holy Spirit as a personal messenger. Today, the Holy Spirit operates as your Shepherd, as your Counselor, as angels readily provide other protective and heavenly functions. (Ephesians 6:11-13; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; James 4:7; “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“; “Prayer & Life in Messiah“; “Living Your Divine Protection“; “Personal Choice & Waiting on YHWH“; “Seeking a New Spirit“)

“Certainly angels will have charge, putting a hedge about you in all the course of life. They will lift you up in their hands, that you won’t strike your foot against a stone. You will walk upon the lion and snake, a young lion and sea serpent you will trample under foot. Because he delights in me he will be delivered and set above because he knows my name. He will call out to Me and I will give answer. I am with him in trouble, to deliver and honor him. Long days will fill him to satisfaction, marking him with salvation.” – Psalm 91:11-16, direct translation

fearIt is comforting to know that you are not alone when you abide in the Almighty through the provision of Yahshua [Jesus] and the power of the Holy Spirit; even in times of great stress and fear. (Luke 4:10-11; John 1:50, 15:5; Psalm 34:7, 91:9-12, 103:19-22) His protection is illustrated by the storm in Mark 4:30-41. Storms will come into your life in many ways, threatening to rob you of your peace. Many times, through your own behavior you create your own storms. Other storms may come when you least expect them and in various forms. (“Standing Strong through Storms“; “Learning to Live in Trust“; “World Order Built on Money & False Security“)

sticky standing strong during stormsConsider the storms in your life and the situations that might cause you great anxiety. Whatever your difficulty, you have two options. You can worry and assume that Yahshua [Jesus] no longer cares or operates on your behalf or you can resist fear, rising to the occasion and putting your trust in YHWH’s power. (Romans 8:11, 12:1-2) When you feel like panicking, confess your needs through prayer, continuing to speak in a way that honors your trust while holding fast to your confidence in YHWH to care for you. The disciples lived with Yahshua [Jesus], but continually underestimated Him and His provision. They did not always see that His power applied to their situation. Yahshua [Jesus] and the Holy Spirit have been with sons and daughters of YHWH now for twenty centuries, but Christians continue to underestimate His power. This is especially true where it matters the most. Each of us must not place limits on the power of YHWH or each will reap the fruit of those limits. The disciples didn’t fully understand the power of the Holy Spirit, but genuine disciples of the Messiah are believers that don’t have the luxury of ignorance or neglect. (Matthew 12:1-8, 22:29-32; 24:4-28, 29-51; 1 Timothy 4:16; Hosea 4:6; “The Power of Prayer Depends on You“; “Christian Joy through Prayer & Fasting“; “Moving Mountains in Your Life“, “Abiding With YHWH in Quiet Places“; “A Hidden Lifestyle Message from YHWH“; “Break Down Walls of Darkness with Prayer“)

strength in JesusYahshua [Jesus] spoke to the storm and it ceased. Disciples have been given similar authority which most believers fail to acknowledge or use. This is likely because most have been told that this power or authority no longer exists or existed solely in Messiah under Roman rule. However, through the power, the stability, the presence of the Holy Spirit, the Messiah is in you. Yahshua [Jesus] even told believers that they would accomplish greater things than He would. (John 14:12-14) So why should you doubt? You can speak in much the same way to a storm in your life, whatever it may be. Your trust in Elohim’s provision for you is able to provide for your protection, as well as others that need that protection. Intercession for others is part of the ministry that disciples of the Messiah have, through prayer and in life action through accurate belief and trust. Then, there is the deeper question that you absolutely ask yourself while being totally honest. Are you really willing to suffer for your beliefs? If you aren’t willing to suffer for your trust in the saving provision of Yahshua [Jesus], you aren’t much of a believer. “For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
