Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding

by John and Ruth Greene

the Bible“Then said Yahshua to those Jews which believed on him, ‘If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’ They answered him, ‘We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?’ Yahshua answered them, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” – John 8:31-36, WoY

breaking chainsSpiritual bondage is the greatest killer of mankind and the bondage is greater than most appreciate. Bonds of satanic imprisonment seek to rule over and destroy Christians. These bonds seek to kill the physical body through stress, disease and oppression. These same bonds of evil can easily destroy your standing in Father YHWH’s Kingdom when you cease to abide in Him or are following a false gospel. All mankind lives in the midst of a spiritual battle between two kingdoms that fight for the minds and hearts of everyone that lives. Which side you are on depends on whom you listen to and obey. Whether you are a disciple of the Messiah above all other things defines your trust. (Matthew 6:19-21, 24, 25-33; Ephesians 6:11-12; “Freedom from Spiritual Bondage“)

“Submit yourselves therefore to Elohim. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7, WoY

a traditional view of temptationIt’s not about temptation, for scripture says that temptation is common to all men, women and children in weakness. (Matthew 26:41; Luke 22:40; Mark 10:21-25; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 6:11) As sons of the Most High, we are advised to resist Satan. In other words, you are better served by staying away from temptation rather than flirting with it. What disciples of the Messiah truly need is to be freed from the bondage of old thinking, the bondages of false gods and traditions, rooted through the history of mankind. (James 1:12-18; 1 Peter 5:6-8; Colossians 3:12-17; “Breaking the Hold of Addictions through Temptation“; “Temptations & Tough Choices“; “The Idolatry Factor“; “Video: What is Idolatry“)

“If, then, you were raised with Messiah, seek the matters which are above, where Messiah is, seated at the right hand of Elohim. Mind the matters above, not those on the earth. For you have died, and your life has been hidden with Messiah in Elohim. When the Messiah, who is our life, is manifested, then you also shall be manifested with Him in esteem.

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: whoring, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and greed of gain, which is idolatry. Because of these the wrath of Elohim is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you also once walked when you lived in them.” – Colossians 3:1-7, ISR98

holy spiritSo what can you be free from? The sacrifice of Yahshua [Jesus] has freed disciples of the Messiah from the law of sin and death, and with the revealing of Elohim’s Kingdom, faithful and seeking disciples of Messiah will be free from all the ties of the dark kingdom. Abiding with Messiah through the power of the Holy Spirit is able to provide many benefits, as well as a closer walk with YHWH, with the idea of spreading that good news as a priority! In this moment, Christians live in a temporary solution until set free permanently in YHWH’s Kingdom. (Matthew 28:19-20; “Christianity: A Crisis in Prayer & Spirit“;  “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Spiritual Disease That Eats at Your Salvation“)

drinking alone addictionAlmighty YHWH gave His people authority over bondage through the sacrifice of His Son. So many people continue to be disappointed and tripped up, returning to their addictions and weaknesses, often without looking back. This is often because men and women mislead others, but just as often, the flaws in the mindset of a new disciple can cause one to fall away. Some people have even believed that they knew YHWH’s Word and believed they were Christians. They may have been misled to believe a false message and a false gospel. Many church leaders fear that the gathering of people in their presence might grow to lose their dependence on them were they to read and understand scripture for themselves. Without a seeking heart for Bible knowledge and understanding, many have departed in discouragement and disgust. Does this mean that men and women cannot come out of bondage? (Matthew 7:14; Romans 6:23; 1 Timothy 5:15; 2 Timothy 2:16, 3:1-7, 13; 2 Corinthians 4:4; “Abiding in Trust“; “Seeking a New Spirit“; “The Bible & Higher Authority“; “Abiding with YHWH in Quiet Places“)

“The kingdom of heaven is similar to a man sowing good seed in his field. Now the man rested and his enemy came and sowed darnel in the midst of the grain and departed. Now as soon as the vegetation germinated and brought forth fruit, at the same time appeared the darnel as well. So the servants of the master of the house approached and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where then does it hold darnel?’ Now he said to them, ‘A human enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘If you wish we will certainly go and gather them.’ So he said ‘No, if ever you gather the darnel you uproot the grain at the same time. Leave both to grow as far as the harvest and in the season of harvest say to the reapers. ‘Collect first the darnel and bind them in bundles to burn them. But gather the grain into my granary.” …Scattering the good seed is the Son of man. Moreover, the field is the arrangement of the world. The good seed were the same, sons of the kingdom. But the darnel are the sons of the wicked. Moreover, the enemy that sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the messengers. Just as certainly as the darnel are gathered and burned in fire, in this way will it be in the end of this age. The Son of man will set apart his messengers and they will gather out of his kingdom all traps that stumble and those that abide wickedness and cast them into a furnace of fire. There will be weeping and grating of teeth. At that time the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Have ears to hear. Understand.” – Matthew 13:24-30, 37-43, direct translation

bible-hug-internetYou must make Father YHWH’s truth your own in private relationship to Him. You look to Him instead of man for a permanent solution. Man is not in the middle, as an intermediary. You don’t look to religion or the approval of men and women. You don’t look to the old Mosaic Law covenant and teaching traditions that so many cling to. You don’t look for salvation through man or one of his groups, but through the provision of grace through YHWH alone, through Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah. (Daniel 12:3; James 2:14-20; Romans 6:14; Ephesians 2:8-9; Colossians 3:10; “Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“; “YHWH is Your Shield & Salvation“)

“Once more, the kingdom of heaven is similar, treasure concealed in a field, that when a man has found, he hides and from out of his joy goes away and trades all that he has and purchases that one field. Once more, the kingdom of heaven is similar to a merchant, a man seeking beautiful pearls; that upon finding a pearl of great value, departed and sold all, as much as he had and bought it.” – Matthew 13:44-46, direct translation

pearl of great valueHow many Christians actually see YHWH’s Kingdom as a pearl of great value, selling off everything to buy it? That relationship is first above all things. (Matthew 6:33) That salvation is personal favor grounded in abiding love through personal relationship, not simply the result of a group activity. This is the kind of trust that sets you apart from others that don’t value YHWH’s Kingdom as you do. Your trust and love for Him sets you apart, as a light shining in the darkness of the world. When you flee from Satan, instead of flirting with him, you keep yourself out of so many so-called grey areas of life by always relating to Father YHWH’s Word first, as a person full of His Spirit, instead of being more like the world, looking to the teaching and learning of man. In this way, Father’s truth is in you, part of you. (John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Romans 8:1-17; “Lifestyle in Messiah: Where Do You Place Your Trust?“; “The Miracle of Living Water“; “Live As Children of Light“)

Instead of being rooted in the world, in the dark kingdom, you become rooted in Messiah and Elohim’s Kingdom through trust in the Word. Holding firm to His truth is essential in order to become spiritually mature. This maturity allows you to have better discernment as well as the ability to use the authority that Elohim has given to you through Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. (1 Corinthians 2:6; Ephesians 4:12-13; 1 Timothy 4:7; Hebrews 5:14; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Pursue Righteousness“; “Are You a Christian First or Last?“)

discern both good and evilDiscernment is governed by accurate knowledge and through the counsel of the Holy Spirit. Discernment is the focal point of trust through the provision of Messiah, as well as through YHWH’s Word. Discernment is always led by love or it is useless in the eyes of the Father, merely a clanging gong. Discernment builds up wisdom, character, boldness and unity. (1 Corinthians 12:3, 13:1-3; Isaiah 8:19-20) Remember that from the earliest of times, the spiritual battle continues against idolatry, as men put other things ahead of YHWH. (John 14:15, 15:10-16; Hebrews 4:12, 6:1-20; 1 Peter 2:1-3; “Understanding Real Prosperity“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “Wavering Between Two Opinions“)

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” – James 1:22-25

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
