The God of General Goodness

by John and Ruth Greene

Recently, a new raft of internet gurus has been attracting new attention and new fans with the idea of life improvement and salvation through ‘general goodness.’ What does this mean? This depends on the source that is advertising this ‘goodness.’ One set of gurus have borrowed the tenets of modern Buddhism, carefully selecting ideas that sound ethical or Biblical. This team of influencers has been promoting their personal brand of personal coaching, starting with the beneficial sounding “psychology of eating” and “the science of thriving.” How can you resist such healthy sounding ideas? Always consider the roots of teaching. (“Abiding in Trust“)

highly effective mythWhen you research the group promoting thriving and healthier eating, you easily discover that they are promoting new age religious teaching using Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” as a front. On the surface, this seems innocent enough. However, Stephen Covey’s philosophies often contain pseudo-Christian (actually antichrist) ideas that masquerade as Bible truth, but aren’t. The reality is that much of Christianity has embraced Covey’s worldly and Mormon-based religious philosophies within the walls of their churches for a decade or so, even learning these materials during ‘Bible study.’ Covey’s idea is that through self-reliance and self-love, you can “psych yourself into peace of mind.” These gurus also employ ‘Toltec wisdom,’ yoga, mystical psychology and ‘spiritual channeling,’ all ideas that they claim promote ‘heaven on earth’ through personal well-being. That follows with the idea that you are your own god, turning you to “a grounded, scientific approach to goals + motivation science…” with the promise of revolutionary empowerment. They promise that you can walk the hero’s path by serving as “a guide post for others.” This is like the empowerment programs in vogue through the 1960s and 1970s, grounded in the same kind of demonism while using some new words and catchy phrases. This is not teaching for Christians to adopt! You must look carefully before trusting and abiding by the rules and promises of man. The success and promises of the world are grounded in the dreams of the world, separated from the Almighty Father YHWH. This is not about ‘morals’ or ‘ethics,’ but about YHWH’s track of righteousness. (John 8:44; Acts 16:16-18, 19:19; 2 Corinthians 4:1-4; 1 Peter 1:6-9, 13-16, 2:1-4; 2 Peter 2:1; Jude 1:11-13; Revelation 21:8, 22:13-15; Isaiah 8:19-20; Leviticus 19:31, 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-12; 1 Chronicles 10:13; “Foundation of Salvation“; “The Idolatry Factor“; “Understanding Sin“)

“Now the day of the Master will arrive like a thief in the night, while the heavens pass away with a crash and the orderly arrangements burn with fire and dissolve.  Even the earth and the works in it will be consumed. Truly, the whole will be dissolved. What must you possess as the blameless place of conduct and sanctification? Anticipating and eagerly awaiting the advent of the day of Elohim, through which the heavens, kindled with fire will be dissolved and the orderly arrangements melted with fervent heat. Now, a new heavens and a new earth according to His promise, we anticipate in which righteousness dwells.” – 2 Peter 3:10-13, direct translation

pulled in many directionsChristians continue to be pulled in all kinds of directions. While each disciple of the Messiah is an individual with the ‘right’ to make a personal decision, the importance of keeping spiritually clean cannot be overstressed. To those that aren’t paying attention, YHWH’s Kingdom will come as a thief, destroying and replacing the governments and elements of the world of man. (kosmos, G2889) They will be judged, melted away by the power and authority of YHWH’s righteousness. The media of the world constantly uses the word “hope” as anticipation of what they wish for. While the word ‘hope’ is used in many Bible translations, in this age the usage of the word ‘hope’ has been diluted to the realm of a fanciful wish with little authority or backing. After all, ‘hope’ may now belong to the world, but a disciple of the Messiah has the expectation of better things through the promises of Father YHWH. YHWH has much more in mind for His people than the vanity of the world. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “The Need to Keep Spiritually Clean“)

“Blessed is the Supreme Elohim and Father, and the Master, Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah, who according to His great compassion, bore us into one purpose; a living expectation through the resurrection of Yahshua the Messiah from the dead into a continuing inheritance, even undefiled and unfading, guarded in the heavens for us. By the power of Elohim, we are protected through belief into deliverance, ready to be revealed in the last season.” – 1 Peter 1:3-5, direct translation

YHWH has great blessings for His people. His elect are saved by grace, even though they are scattered throughout the earth and are not in one place. He will soon gather them together in His Kingdom. The salvation He offers is not the cheap grace of the religious world, but kind of prosperity that only YHWH can give as the Holy Spirit rests in your life, as He purifies your mind and heart. (1 Peter 1:22-25) This isn’t a mask or veneer that hides thoughts and feelings underneath. Prosperity is agreement and action along with YHWH and His purpose for you. (“Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“; “Understanding Real Prosperity“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“)

bound by traditionYHWH’s people are delivered from an empty way of life, handed down through the traditions of the past. (1 Peter 1:17-19) Father YHWH’s people trust Him and the provision of His Son, salvation through Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. His people do not resist the Holy Spirit. They seek the treasures of YHWH’s Kingdom alone. They abandon and stay away from treasures of the world system, including such notions as ‘general goodness,’ a construct of false religion and a misled world. (Acts 7:51; Matthew 12:35; “Who is Your Source“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“; “Do You Live a Lifestyle of Greed?“)

Instead of vainly seeking to create success on your terms or those of the world, you create success on YHWH’s terms, through His track of righteousness. What you sow into your life, you will receive in return.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21, NKJV

“’Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.’ And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye. For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.’” – Luke 6:36-45, NKJV

“Do not be led astray: Elohim [YHWH] is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap. Because he who sows to his own flesh shall reap corruption from the flesh, but he who sows to the Spirit shall reap everlasting life from the Spirit.” – Galatians 6:7-8, ISR98

sharing the BibleBy focusing on the needs of others in line with YHWH’s Word, you sow seeds of repentance and peace. (Hosea 4:5-6) This isn’t ‘general goodness,’ for there is no such thing in the eyes of your Heavenly Father, YHWH. ‘General goodness’ is not a provision in the teachings of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. Neither is the ‘science of thriving,’ another invention of man. These mottos and their substance focus primarily on self with the idea that if ‘all of us’ focus on self in the right way, the result will be peace and goodness. This is just another of many failed experiments in the system of man. Salvation is a gift of love, a provision of Father YHWH as disciples of the Messiah learn to walk in the teachings of the Messiah and all that is in scripture. (Mark 4:24, 10:17-22; Matthew 6:26, 7:12, 10:32; John 3:21; Philippians 1:11, 2:3; Galatians 6:1-18; 1 Corinthians 9:16; 1 John 3:7; Romans 5:1-5, 8:28; 2 Timothy 2:22; Proverbs 22:8; “The Unpardonable Sin“; “Do You Give Your Leftovers to Messiah?“; “Blind Leading the Blind“; “What is Washing by the Word?“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
