He Must Have Deserved It

YHWH: The Reality of Sin, Punishment & Protection

by John Greene

run-the-race“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. For man also does not know his time: like fish taken in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.” – Ecclesiastes 9:11-13, NKJV

”God certainly punished him. He must have deserved his lot in life.” So goes the speculation. There are plenty of people, Christians included, who believe that sickness, personal disaster or death are invited almost exclusively through personal sin, as a method of immediate or prompt punishment by God. (Matthew 5:45) On the other side, the prosperous and beautiful people, Christians among them, are often seen as blessed by Him, on YHWH’s good side. Yet, during trouble and trial, not a few people observe the troubles of others with a certain glee. The truth is that people are not singled out through divine punishment for the satisfaction of men and women, although it may seem this way in a world full of perversity. Most often, the decisions that people make in the flesh, outside of YHWH’s Spirit, result in personal trial or demise, even in the tribulation and trouble of others. (Proverbs 9:8, 11:18, 22:8; “Life Healing and Belief“; “Understanding Sin“; “How Satan Challenges You“; “Understanding Real Prosperity“)

the-judgeWhile a ‘speedy judgment’ against personal sin might appear to be an inviting proposition to many, keep in mind that what you desire for others, you are also likely to reap in accordance with the ‘law of sowing and reaping’ – even as you observe this happening to others. (Matthew 6:12-15, 7:1-2, 13:3-8; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7) Further, ‘speedy judgment’ does not fit in with your Heavenly Father’s desire that as many see salvation as possible. (John 3:16-17; Acts 4:12; Romans 10:8-13) He is patient. Certainly, the trials of others are not to be delighted in or treasured with the relish of vengeance. (Romans 12:19; Hebrews 10:30) Scripture has given YHWH’s people an answer towards those that are caught in the web of destruction through Satan’s agents and the sad torment or neglect of others. (Galatians 6:7-9; 1 Corinthians 3:6; Genesis 26:12; Leviticus 26:1-16; Jeremiah 12:13; Hosea 8:7; Micah 6:15; Psalm 126:5: “Judgment & Promise: The Almond Branch & YHWH’s People“; “Victory Over Wickedness“; “Foundation of Salvation“)

The Messiah, Yahusua [Jesus], spoke about the issue of YHWH’s judgment against those that suffered or died:

“And some were present at the same time reporting to Him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate mixed with their sacrifices. And answering, Yahshua said to them, ‘Do you think that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans, because they were killed this way? No, I say to you, but if you do not repent, you will all likewise be destroyed. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, do you think that these were sinners beyond all men who lived in Jerusalem? No, I say to you, But if you do not repent, you will all likewise be destroyed.’” – Luke 13:1-5, HRB

hedge-of-protection-sm-300x213While YHWH’s people, in the act of doing His Will, often receive much covenant protection from Him, this loving care does not always extend to erase all the ravages of the world [kosmos]. The decisions that you and others make often play heavily into events and choices made in daily living. It’s about the free will that YHWH promised mankind. For example, cheating and taking shortcuts in the construction of a tower can cause the tower to fail over time. A disaster caused by the fall of the tower is often a result of decisions or actions brought about by men and women that designed or built the tower. YHWH is not guilty of the sin of mankind. This was caused by rebellion, the lustful pride to have power like Elohim. What does the Messiah say about the sin of those that died ‘before their time?’ “I tell you … unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” You have the opportunity to serve your Father while you are alive. You won’t rob Him in this life or the next and get away with it indefinitely. (Matthew 7:21-23; John 3:5; Luke 10:25-28; Isaiah 55:6-7; “YHWH’s Protection in Difficult Times“; “Living Your Divine Protection“; “Fear & YHWH’s Protection“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“)

twin towers genocide, the face of evilThe evil of man’s world that is announced by Ecclesiastes 9:11-13 often results in much trouble or death to some. If you do not repent, turning to actively pursuing the truth of your Heavenly Father and His grace, you will perish. All that refuse to listen to the Father, choosing to live in rebellion against Him will die. This is a spiritual law. How much a Christian benefits from the assured reality of trust reflected in Daniel 3:17! This firm commitment was made in response to the blazing anger of King Nebuchadnezzar: “If it be so, our Elohim whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.“ (John 12:24; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44) This is the kind of trust that a disciple of Christ, a genuine Christian needs. (“Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“)

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, who abides under the shadow of the Almighty, he is saying of YHWH, ‘My refuge and my stronghold, My Elohim, in whom I trust!’ For He delivers you from the snare of a trapper, from the destructive pestilence. He covers you with His feathers, and under His wings you take refuge; His truth is a shield and armour. You are not afraid of the dread by night, of the arrow that flies by day, of the pestilence that walks in darkness, of destruction that ravages at midday.” – Psalm 91:1-6, ISR98

When you abide in Your Heavenly Father, you rest under the protection of His Prayer and Purpose. YHWH’s people seek Him and He loves them. His truth is your shield. But YHWH also loves the lost, those that need His truth and deliverance. (“YHWH’s Prayer Shawl of Protection“; “YHWH: the Help of Those Who Seek Him“; “Seeking a New Spirit“; “Psalm 91: Lifestyle & Protection“)

“A thousand fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it does not come near you. Only with your eyes you look on, and see the reward of the wrong ones. Because you have made YHWH – my refuge, the Most High – your dwelling place, no evil befalls you, and a plague does not come near your tent; for He commands His messengers concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.” – Psalm 91:7-11, ISR98

track-embattlementWhen you walk squarely in YHWH’s track of righteousness, this righteousness and the discernment of the Holy Spirit that goes with it, serves as an effective protection. When you abide by messengers of YHWH (the Holy Spirit, the angels and anointed human messengers), you are able to make choices so that you do not “strike your foot against a stone.” (Luke 4:9-11; Matthew 4:6) As part of your service to Him, you do not deliberately throw yourself down into destruction, just as Yahshua [Jesus] resisted Satan in the desert. You don’t seek to please men and demons, but to continually serve for the sake of the purpose of Christ. Unhappily, in this day, most Christians don’t realize the importance of YHWH’s track of righteousness and how this can and does impact them personally right now. (Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:12-16; 1 John 3:1, 5:4; Ephesians 6:10-18; “Consenting to Fables of Men“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Holy Spirit 101“)

“In their hands [angels or messengers] they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” – Psalm 91:12-16, NKJV

This beautiful Psalm highlights personal trust in YHWH Almighty for every need, which often results in His protection over you. This is often proffered by some religious leaders as a “reward” for those reward-driven people that claim to serve Him. The truth is that living for YHWH through the Messiah is a lifestyle and a commitment, devotion to His truth built through mutual love and relationship in the Holy Spirit. It’s personal and intimate. All of this is borne of Elohim’s Spirit. Whether you strike your foot against a stone often determines what authority that you listen to. (“Abiding With YHWH in Quiet Places“; “Breaking Strongholds of False Authority“)

older couple bible studyYHWH can and is fully able to preserve you alive as you actively seek to serve Him in whatever way is possible in your immediate circumstances. However, you shouldn’t expect to stay within your comfort zone that you live in now. The world of man is quickly changing and you may likely find yourself in new and novel times. This presents new opportunities for you and others around you. Expanding your spiritual family with increasing knowledge of Bible truth, as you plant the seeds of salvation, is especially important as the end of this age approaches. Individual Christian disciples are an essential element of that work! “For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
