The Christian Prepper: How Prepared Are You?

by John Greene

twin towers disasterAre you prepared in the event of a terrorist attack? Are you prepared for feared mayhem and disorder in the event of a national emergency? The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 still linger on the minds of many. In vogue among many is ‘prepping,’ storing up often obscene amounts of provisions with the idea of surviving ‘armageddon’ or a ‘holocaust.’ Many have become obsessed by these kinds of concerns. Clearly, a certain amount of self-sufficiency on some level is desirable for an emergency. How far will you go? (“Religion & Rise in Opposition to Christians“; “‘Leaders of Men’ Plot Against ‘Christian Infidels’“)

Yahshua [Jesus] made a very good point regarding excessive preparations for the future in what is often called the ‘parable of the rich fool.’

“Then He spoke a parable to them, saying ‘The fields of a certain rich man yielded great abundance. So he reasoned to himself saying, ‘What will I do? For I have no place to store my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: destroy my storehouses and build larger. For at this place, I will gather all my crops and my goods.’ For I will say to myself, ‘Spirit, you possess many goods, laid up for many years. Refresh yourself. Eat, drink and rejoice.’

But Elohim said to him, ‘Mindless one! This night your spirit is required of you. Then who will own what you have prepared? In this way is he that amasses treasure for himself and is not rich toward Elohim.” – Luke 12:16-21, direct translation

preppersCertain people are only to happy to sell you what you believe you need in preparing for the future. It’s ‘good business’ in the eyes of the world. True, you are getting something for your money. But consider this: if you aren’t around, who is going to enjoy all that preparation that you have so diligently pursued? If you are socking back years of supplies, ‘your enemy’ is likely to be the happy beneficiary unless you are living in a hole in the ground – and even then, your survival, and more importantly, your salvation is hardly assured. (Matthew 6:19-34)

“Then he said to His disciples, ‘For this reason I say to you, don’t take thought for your life, what you will eat, nor your body, what you will wear. The spirit is more than food, and the body, outer garments. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor harvest, which have neither storehouse nor granary, and Elohim feeds them. How much more value do have you than the birds? And which of you by worrying is able to add one cubit to his maturity. If then, you are unable to do the smallest, why worry about the rest?

Consider the lilies, in what way they increase. They neither toil nor spin, and I say to you, Solomon in all his dignity was not clothed like one of these. Now since Elohim clothes the grass in this manner, being this day in the field and tomorrow cast into an oven, how much more, you of little belief? Then, do not idolize what you eat or what you drink, and never be anxious. For all these things the nations of the world seek after. But your Father knows that you need these things. But seek after the Kingdom of Elohim, and all these things will be added to you.” – Luke 12:22-31, direct translation

anxiety-fearA certain amount of ‘self sufficiency’ is possible, even desirable and necessary. To make some preparation for the future is acceptable. However, you can over-prepare for any situation, and can never consider all of the possibilities. Remember that all material things are perishable and can be taken from you – by force or by deception. Making an idol out of preparation and vowing to depend solely on yourself, your ability to protect yourself, and ‘your property’ puts you outside the Will of YHWH, your Elohim. It denies the provision of the Father, the provision of His Son and denies the provision of the Set Apart Spirit [Dedicated or ‘Holy’ Spirit’] The fear, the anxiety that caused all of this excessive ‘prepping’ is also not of your Father. Instead, you need the discretion that only Elohim and His Spirit can provide. (“Opposing Fear“; “Scriptures: Do Not Fear“; “Discernment 101: Learning to be Discerning“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)

“For Elohim has not given us the spirit of fear. To the contrary, power and love, and a mind of discernment.” – 2 Timothy 1:7, direct translation

“For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
