The Meaning of Humility

by John and Ruth Greene

satan roars“Humble yourselves, then, under the mighty hand of Elohim [YHWH, ‘God’], so that He exalts you in due time, casting all your worry upon Him, for He is concerned about you. Be sober, watch, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in the belief, knowing that the same hardships are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.’ – 1 Peter 5:6-9, ISR98

bible-trust-YHWH-1To be a disciple, you must be willing to humble yourself under the caring hand of Elohim. Sometimes, you may feel that struggles which are caused by your own sin and foolishness are not the concern of your Heavenly Father. When you approach Him in repentance, He is happy to bear the weight of those struggles. Allow your Father to carry your anxieties and burdens, an act of active trust. Instead of looking at circumstances, focus on your Savior, your Father, what has been done for you and what is being done. You are not alone, for others [brothers and sisters] of like mind and heart in the Set Apart Spirit [Dedicated or ‘Holy’ Spirit] are experiencing similar trials. Any moments of suffering are momentary, not permanent. When you rely on the power of Elohim’s Spirit, He will sustain you. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Being Set Apart Makes You Aware of Sin“)

By keeping your eyes on the purpose of the Messiah and the Will of your Father instead of your own will, the fables of men, or a substitute gospel, you continually resist the devil and his agents. Instead, you grow in discernment and continue in active trust – not in the world, but in YHWH’s Kingdom.

“So then subject yourselves to Elohim. Resist the devil and he shall flee from you. Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded! …Humble yourselves in the sight of the Master, and He shall lift you up. ” – James 4:7-8, 10, ISR98

twokingdomsperspYou are an active part of a war between two kingdoms, but disciples already know Who the winner is. (Revelation 20:10, 15) Satan and his agents are here now, trying to distract you and win you over. With the power of the Set Apart Spirit, you can resist evil by being set apart as you cast Satan out of your life. A large part of this is not only internal, but external, as in what you say to others. Quarreling and striving after prideful ambition hurts everyone. When you are motivated by the works of the flesh, you cannot be humble. Instead, you are motivated by bitterness, envy, selfish ambition, earthly concerns and desires, carnal thoughts and ideas, disorder and evil. (Matthew 6:25-33, 23:12; Luke 9:23-24; 1 John 2:16; James 4:11-12; 1 Corinthians 2:14)

“Where do fightings and strivings come from among you? Do they not come from your pleasures that battle in your members? You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and are unable to obtain. You strive and fight, and you do not possess, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order to spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit which dwells in us intensely crave unto envy? But He gives greater favor. Because of this He says, ‘Elohim resists the proud, but gives favor to the humble.’” – James 4:1-6, ISR98

puppy followYield to His Authority and commit your life to Him, being willing to obey Him. Following after Him like a little puppy won’t get the job done! Remember, you need to be active rather than passive, involved rather than sleeping. His Word needs to be in your mind and heart, resulting in a dedicated and purified life. Through washing with the water of the Word, you replace your desire to sin with the desire to be pure of heart and mind. You are filled with agape love rather than a spirit of bitterness and self-interest. (Matthew 13:22; Luke 4:5-6, 14:33; 1 John 2:15-17; Proverbs 3:34; “Breaking Strongholds of False Authority“; “Leadership & the Universal Authority of Messiah“; “The Role of Authority in Your Life“)

“Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, impurity, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, witchcraft, enmity, fighting, jealousies, anger, rivalries, stubbornness, divisions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and things like these; of which I tell you beforehand, as I also said before, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of YHWH. But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. Against such things there is no instruction.” – Galatians 5:19-24, HRB

To be humble means to recognize that your value comes from your Heavenly Father, and Him alone. You are set apart to Him. You allow the Set Apart Spirit to guide you instead of relying on your own independence. When you rely on yourself, you are not being directed by the Set Apart Spirit. Instead, submit to YHWH’s righteousness. (Matthew 7:21; Luke 18:9-14; 1 John 1:7, 3:21-24; 2 John 1:9-11; 1 Peter 1:14-16; Psalm 1:6, 4:3; “Attack of Advertising & Propaganda“; “Your Refuge is Important“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“)

“For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
