The Truth About Prayer

by John Greene

“A man that endures trial I am! Who will deliver me from the body of death? I thank Elohim through Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah our Master. So then, the understanding that I, myself indeed serve is the Law of Elohim, but the flesh is the law of sin.” – Romans 7:24-25, direct translation

ruining-the-earthThe author of Romans hit the nail on the head! We live in a world of sin that thinks and knows only of the flesh, what seems real, what you can reach out and touch, even what you can imagine apart from Elohim [‘God’, YHWH]. You can choose to serve the world or you can choose to be set apart to Elohim, to abide in Him and His Way. You decide whose righteousness you will seek. In trial that is lived out daily, how easy it can be to forget prayer and the power, even the intimacy that it can yield when prayer is in agreement with Him. This world knows about prayer. People have prayed to imaginary gods for ages, praying about all kinds of needs. There is never a response to that prayer, and at best, an imagined response. That is the kind of prayer that most Christians expect. What is forgotten is that, in reality, prayer is two-way communication that most people don’t have a clue about – even when the truth of scripture is right in front of them. Usually, what is needed most is to get quiet and listen, to learn to live in the Spirit, learning to have a real conversation in trust. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“; “Beware of False Teachers & Disciples“; “Spiritual Growth & Your Eternal Reward“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“; “Abiding With YHWH in Quiet Places“)

“For being after the flesh exercises the mind of the flesh, but one after the Spirit, the Spirit. For to be fleshly minded is death, but Spirit-minded, life and peace. On account that the fleshly mind is in opposition towards Elohim because it is not subordinate to the law of Elohim, neither indeed is it able. Now, to be in the flesh, it is not possible to be in agreement with Elohim. Now, you belong not in the flesh, but to the contrary, in the Spirit, if perhaps the Spirit of Elohim lives in you.” – Romans 8:5-9, direct translation

family fighting boyThe idea of conversation for some people is mindless chatter about little of consequence; the latest television show, the greatest video game, what you want on your next shopping trip, or about that gorgeous human beefcake that glanced your way. Some people think they know how to have a conversation, and more often than not, many of them insist on ruling over it. But conversation is the willingness to shut the mouth and to take the time to listen, even when it hurts in that moment. In this modern age of bravado, listening has become something of a lost art. We don’t listen, or do a little creative multitasking that is believed will do the job. Focus isn’t on the agenda. When you do listen, you also need to take the time to consider what you have just heard. Do you understand? You speak directly to one another, just like you would a good friend, but without the mindless chatter about little or nothing. Conversation in prayer is in scripture. (Psalm 51:1-19, 119:18-24) Elohim speaks through the Bible. Through the Holy Spirit [Dedicated, Set Apart Spirit], Elohim speaks as you thoughtfully pray and speak with Him in life. How do you respond to scripture? How do you respond to Him? The Counselor teaches you, at least when your mind and heart are not in the flesh and you’re open to Him. He will meet you exactly where you are, and your trust in Him will help you to grow. Learning what conversation is about is a good first step to improving your prayer life, as you learn to walk after Elohim’s Spirit, seeking agreement with Him. (Matthew 10:32; Luke 12:8; Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Colossians 2:6-9, 3:17; 1 John 2:23; “Praying in the Wilderness“; “Are You an Effective Listener? Listening & Your Relationships“; “The Way: Getting Stuck in a Rut – And Out Again“; “Break Down Walls of Darkness with Prayer“; “The Power of Prayer Depends On You“)

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yahshua delivers me from the law of sin and death, for the reason that the law was unable in that it was weak through the flesh. Elohim dispatched His Son in the form of sinful flesh, and (peri) making a way around sin, judged against sin in the flesh in order that the righteousness of the law be completed in us walking, not after the flesh, but to the contrary, after the Spirit.” – Romans 8:2-4, direct translation

“Now when Messiah is in you, the body is truly dead to sin. But the Spirit is life through righteousness. Now when the Spirit that raised Yahshua [Jesus] from the dead remains in you,the Spirit that raised Messiah from the dead likewise gives life to your mortal body by His Spirit that lives in you. Truly and certainly brothers, we are not indebted to the flesh, to life through the flesh. For when you live after the flesh you suffer death. But when the Spirit puts to death the works of the body, you live. For all that are carried by the Spirit of Elohim, they agree as sons of Elohim.” – Romans 8:10-14, direct translation

bible-light-2When understood directly from the original text instead of in the view of translation tradition, you begin to grasp that much more is going on in prayer than simply expressing your needs. When you agree with His Word and Will, you agree as a son or daughter. You grow closer, learning to abide in Him. You come to know Him and agree with His righteousness. You become set apart to Him. (Matthew 6:24; “Prayer & Life in Messiah“; “The Challenge of Living in Righteousness“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “The Journey of Life through Scripture“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“; “Is Your Forgiveness Real?“)

“For you do not possess the spirit of bondage again through fear, but possess the Spirit as Sons, in which we call out ‘Abba Father!’ The Spirit Himself testifies to our spirit, that we are children of Elohim. And when children, then heirs; heirs of Elohim and co-heirs of Messiah. If so, we suffer the same kind of persecution in order to be exalted together. For I conclude that the suffering of the present season is not deserving by the side of the esteem that is to be revealed in us.” – Romans 8:15-18, direct translation

coming out of captivityRegardless of the heat of the trial, disciples are exalted through and with Messiah and the Holy Spirit, as heirs of the Kingdom, especially as that Kingdom comes to be revealed. (1 Peter 5:6-8; 2 Corinthians 6:4-10; “ Persisting Against Deception & Oppression During Tribulation“; “Babylon & the Foul Ones“; “Foundation of Salvation“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“)

“For the intense anticipation of the creation waits for the revealing of the sons of Elohim. For the creation is subordinate to vanity, not voluntarily, but through the subjection of expectation, because the creation itself will be delivered from the bondage to destruction into the esteemed freedom of the children of Elohim. For He knew that all of creation experiences a common calamity and pangs of suffering together until the present time, and not alone, but each of us also, possessing the beginning of sacrifice, the firstfruits of the Spirit. Even all of us groan in ourselves, waiting for the adoption, the deliverance of our body. For we are saved by expectation. Now expectation that sees is not expectation. For what a man sees, why even expect? Now when we expect what is not seen, through endurance, expect it fully.” – Romans 8:19-25, direct translation

jesus-prayerIn other words, when you pray in agreement with Elohim, as His son or daughter, you don’t expect or ‘have faith.’ You know what you pray for comes to pass in line with Father’s Will. You trust for what you seek in His Will, which is reality rather than faith or expectation. You know – instead of hoping, as the world does. You experience instead of wishing it could be – you are confident in that know your Father is good for His Word. Hope is weak. Confidence is strong. Trust is your connection and He is your strength. Father YHWH does what He says He will do. (2 Corinthians 3:5; Hebrews 13:6; Philippians 4:13; 1 John 3:22; Isaiah 41:10; Proverbs 3:26; “Understanding Sin“; “Replacing Sin and Becoming Set Apart“; “Called to Have Confidence in Messiah“; “Are You One of the Walking Dead?“; “The Secret of Dedicated Disciples“; “Trusting in YHWH Instead of Princes“)

“But in the same way, the Spirit also helps our frailty, for we have not known what to pray to Elohim for, according to what is necessary. To the contrary, the Spirit Himself makes intercession for our sake, with groaning that cannot be uttered, now searching the heart, having known what is in the mind of the spirit, concerning making intercession for the set apart, [dedicated] in the manner of Elohim. And having known that all fellow workers, for the benefit of those that love Elohim, being the appointed, are exposed before Elohim [as the show bread] to His more excellent purpose. Because of what He already knew beforehand and predetermined, conformed to the likeness of His Son, Himself came to be firstborn in many brothers. Now what He predetermined, these were also called, and whom He called. These He also justified as righteous, and whom He made righteous, these also magnified. What then say to these? If Elohim is for the sake of us, what can be against us?” – Romans 8:26-31, direct translation

Rising Christian MinistryThe Holy Spirit builds you up in loving-kindness, helping you in what to pray for, making intercession as He searches your heart and mind set apart to Him. In this way, all disciples are appointed, exposed and offered to His more excellent purpose, which is not the ways of the world. Disciples of Messiah are conformed to the likeness of Messiah, justified and exalted in His Kingdom with Him. (John 14:15-17, 26, 16:12-13; Luke 11:13; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; “A Branch of the Vine through Trust“; “Redeemed Through Obedience & Trust“; “ Leadership & the Universal Authority of Messiah“; “Shining Love Toward Others in Righteousness“; “Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“)

listenFather YHWH did not spare His son, so disciples are uniquely favored, even as the world may fight against them. What can stand against His righteousness? Prayer is not about hope, but rather about confidence, trusting fully in what Father YHWH wants for His people. His people know what this is because they care about what He says in scripture – and they care enough to learn and obey in the Spirit. They listen and obey, seeking to hear all that the Holy Spirit [Dedicated, Set Apart Spirit] has to say to them. This doesn’t make them perfect, but they are completed through the provision of Messiah through the Holy Spirit. All of this is done through the loving provision of a loving Father. Yes, trial has its seasons, but never greater than can be bore by those set apart to Him. He will see His beloved through, either through life or death. Disciples are conquerors through the love of Elohim, and the personal expression of that love. Prayer is the continuing exercise of His love expressed through us and to us, set apart to Him in Spirit and truth. (John 3:14-16, 14:15, 15:7; Matthew 6:5-8; Acts 5:29; 1 John 2:3, 4:8; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 16:14; Colossians 3:14; Exodus 19:4; Deuteronomy 32:11; “Breaking Strongholds of False Authority“; “Defining Love“; “Real Love“; “Victory Over Wickedness“; “The Promise of the Holy Spirit“; “Disciples & the Occult of the World“; “Brainwashed“)

“And besides, He did not spare His Own Son, but to the contrary, delivered Him up for us all. How will He not, in union with Him, also favor us all? Who will call into question Elohim’s elect? Elohim is righteous. Who judges? Messiah was slain, and how much better that He is raised up, Who is even at the right hand of Elohim, Who also makes intercession for our sake. Who will separate us from the love of Messiah? Tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or scarcity of food, or nakedness, or danger, or war? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are killed all day, we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.’ No, in all these we are conquerors through our love.” – Romans 8:32-37, direct translation

“For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
