Selling Christmas

by John Greene

black-friday-commerceAdvertising Christmas is running at a fevered pitch this time of year with the goal of exciting and appealing to you. Expectations are usually pushed as part of each advertising bullet fired at you. During this season, all Americans are overwhelmed with commercials and other advertising that promote a version of Christmas that many Americans feel they must somehow live up to. This often advances stress, sadness and sometimes, useless debt for those it endangers the most. For many, Christmas is rarely as good as the holiday is portrayed. This is because people have allowed themselves to be continually manipulated by peddlers that have a key interest in only themselves, their ‘bottom-line’. (“Attack of Advertising & Propaganda“; “Frenzy, Fear & Power“; “Recognizing the Counterfeit“; “Following the Right Jesus“; “Breaking the Hold of Stress“)

sale-price-frenzyThe debt trap continues for many that strive to meet expectations that they will pay the rest of the year for – continually funding a never-ending cycle of debt and greed. Whether they finance that debt or not, people often spend more in the hope of meeting their expectations and the expectations of those they love. The corollary is that the more money you spend, the happier you are likelier to be. The real issue at hand is the fear of disappointment, the dark horse that pushes all of this frenzy. Meanwhile, your fear is someones imagined ticket to paradise. (“Christians & Finance“; “Incentives of Deception“; “Living in an Apostate World“; “Fighting a World of Fear & Delusion“; “Opposing Fear“)

joyWhat is a ticket to paradise for one is sometimes a time of grief and loneliness for others. Some Christian organizations rationalize the holiday with idea of pointing people to their Shepherd with the idea of somehow being transformeda transformation merry-go-round that never really comes and falls short of the promises because of misdirection. In this case, based on the generic claims of religion, this celebration takes the place of the ‘Holy Spirit,’ no longer believed in by many professed Christians. Instead, these Christian organizations point to the beauty of the physical trappings, the nativities, the lights. They point out the meanings behind what is being endorsed and the grace that the world of man are beneficiaries to. They say “God loves you,” and “God wants to have a relationship with you,” and “the message of Christmas is a wonderful, positive message.” The merry-go-round of disappointment and hype continues, for what many find as truly unsatisfying and uncaring, even challenging and exploitative. Some may ask, is this all religion has to offer? Is celebrating Christmas a relationship with God? Is this the fullness that Yahshua [Jesus] had in mind? (“YHWH is Your Strength“; “Understanding Real Prosperity“; “The Magi of this Age“; “Breakthrough Prayer: Grief“; “Dealing With Grief & Strongholds“; “Grief: Living Your Thanks in Poverty or Plenty“; “Christians & Leadership Crisis“)

The truth is that the Messiah never asked anyone to celebrate His birthday, but to honor His sacrifice. Some would say that “Christmas honors Jesus” [Yahshua], and that we are the ones to decide how this is to be done. Much of this is based on tradition, but all of it is based on something else. That something else has little to do with scripture. So what does the Bible say? (John 18:36; Isaiah 9:6; “The Deceptions of Christmas“; “The Perverse Gods of Christmas“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“; “Deceptions of Ages: How People are Deceived“)

christmas-gift-givingThe Bible does give accounts of the birth of the Messiah, but this has nothing to do with Christmas or any other celebration where scripture is concerned. In those days, those that came to visit the child did not give special relevance to the day that baby Yahshua [Jesus] was born. Instead they magnified and praised the Father! Birthday celebrations were something that the false religions and foreign cultures of the world did. (Mark 6:21; Genesis 40:20; 1 Corinthians 6:19, 10:31; James 4:10, Romans 12:3; Ecclesiastes 7:1) Christmas has been created and adapted by men. (Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 1:18-1:25, 2:1-2:12) So what did our Messiah tell His disciples to celebrate? (“The Sign of Jonah & Easter“)

A good place to begin is at Luke 22, where the reader finds Yahshua [Jesus] observing the Passover on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. (Exodus 6:6-8, 12:12-13; 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, 11:23-28) The event is about the angel of death passing over the houses of all marked doorposts. This required trust and action on the part of the Jewish nation as believers. This is the memorial that He was celebrating as a Jew. That is what He was in the eyes of men in that day. He told His disciples to “…continue the same toward remembering Me.” (Luke 22:14-21; Matthew 26:17-30; “Trusting in YHWH Instead of Princes“; “Abiding in Trust“)

older couple bible studyYahshua’s [Jesus] command was to honor His sacrifice, just as He did in scripture. Just as the Hebrews were delivered from Egypt, so will disciples of the Messiah be delivered from Satan, from a world of sin and death. This is a time to focus on being set apart, a time of self-examination, reflection and renewing personal dedication. Other than the early feasts of the nation of Israel, no other holiday is commended by scripture. (“Replacing Sin and Becoming Set Apart“; “Scriptures – Qodesh, Being Set Apart“; “Being Set Apart Makes You Aware of Sin“)

agreement with YHWHYou can now appreciate that most professed Christians are definitely not in line with (in agreement with) what scripture lays out, strictly-speaking. Many have taken great liberties. Instead, a “Bible-based” idea has been presented as acceptable or righteous over that of the provisions of Father [‘God’, YHWH]. Celebrating Christmas is not about a closer relationship with God, nor does it teach or recommend such things. It is full of things of the world, including the financial provisions and trickery of man. Yes, these things are often attractive, festive and lots of fun – but they are not the righteousness of YHWH, our Heavenly Father. Christmas is not the fullness and abundance of His Spirit, nor is Christmas ever what Yahshua [Jesus] had in mind during or after His earthly ministry. (“Understanding Sin“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “News: Hyperinflation & False Teaching“; “U.S. Bankruptcy and the Bible“)

Now that you are beginning to know the truth, only you can decide for yourself what is best for you. Do you want to honor truth or deception? Will you follow the guidelines of scripture – YHWH’s track of righteousness or another way? This is a personal decision that each person that calls himself or herself a disciple of the Messiah must make. Do you want to be set apart to your Father and the purpose of the Messiah and Set Apart Spirit [‘Holy Spirit‘], or do you set yourself apart to another teaching of sin? May you choose the righteousness of Elohim instead keeping or adding more sin to your life! (John 8:341 John 1:8-103:6-10; James 4:17; Romans 6:23; Galatians 5:16; Deuteronomy 30:19; “YHWH: The Choice to Stay Loyal“; “The Role of Authority in Your Life“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“; “Playing It Safe With Another Gospel“)

“For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
