From the time children begin to express themselves, most are taught to hide their true feelings and thoughts. Through parenting and schooling, children are taught to adopt ways of thinking and reacting that may be entirely unnatural to their nature. Abuse and fear also teach children to cover up their true feelings. These same behaviors are present in adults, who use these kinds of learned behaviors from childhood as their foundation, often passing these on to others, especially to the most vulnerable around them. Unloving and spiky comments create rejection and disease. From cruelty, more cruelty is produced. Masks are created and truth hidden. Still, if children are able to grow up with few issues from their parents, their culture and society will teach them what masks they should wear in public. “But know this, that in the last days hard times shall come. For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, haters of good, betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Elohim [‘God’, YHWH], having a form of reverence but denying its power. And turn away from these!” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5, ISR98
It’s true. Virtually all of us have learned to wear masks that hide our true selves to the world-at-large. The masks often cover pain, abuse, humiliation, rejection and embarrassment because of the condition of mankind. Masks are rooted through insecurity. Masks are also typically encouraged by worldly authorities, whether political, national or religious. In different cultures, people are expected to act a certain way in public, to create a personal mask to please others. Even those who are considered to be emotionally healthy people commonly wear contrived masks to cover their true selves, most often to avoid confrontation, or out of fear. Wearing masks becomes a way of life, even a method of defense, because honesty isn’t really the best policy in the world we live in. Instead, we tend to fashion our own ‘reality’, based on what we think the world around us wants to see. (“Opposing Fear“; “Frenzy, Fear & Power“; “Breaking Strongholds of False Authority“; “Disciples of Messiah & the Authority of Man“; “Balancing Authority & the Road to Enslavement“; “Life Healing and Belief“)
Wearing a mask always gets in the way of intimacy. Nobody really gets to know you or the fascinating qualities in you. The internet is a good example of this. On the worldwide web you may feel a thrill in having a sense of freedom. You can express yourself in ways you would never dream of doing face-to-face. While this can be a training ground for good in learning to express yourself confidently, this same freedom is also used for harm and abuse, creating a barrier to friendship and fomenting trouble for others, even yourself. (Ephesians 4:29; Proverbs 14:12-16; “Intimacy In Marriage“; “Disciples & the Occult of the World“; “A Yoke of Slavery or Freedom“; “Freedom: The Law of Sin and Death“)
“Do not deceive one another, continually putting off the old man, together with his acts. And be clothed in the regeneration, renewed in the exceeding knowledge, after the likeness of your Creator.” – Colossians 3:9-10, direct translation
Wearing masks ultimately causes everyone that relies on them to be dishonest, to lose whatever integrity they originally possessed. In this way, we become separated from ourselves and others through deception. Deceiving yourself and others is normal and yes – expected, a sort of personal nightmare that each of us must learn to live with, a sort of global crisis of pretense, of delusion. This separation may ultimately cause great personal conflict, destroying personal confidence. Separation always has a personal toll on you. All of this can be cast on you by design at any time in your life, so you need to be prepared, and strong enough to fight in order to stay whole. Discernment and wisdom are keys becoming whole during a real battle towards victory. (1 Peter 1:23, 5:10; “Freedom from Spiritual Bondage“; “Fighting a World of Fear & Delusion“; “Delusion & the Tightening Noose of the Beast System“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“)
To those closest to you, you may or may not remove your mask of choice. Stress and personal crisis may cause you to keep up your guard, or remove it altogether, causing you to bear your fangs to those around you. Either way, a mask is a very flexible tool. Yet, sooner or later, you will be found out – or find yourself out. On the other hand, when you come to the realization that you are living a lie, the best thing you can do is to remove the lying mask and refuse to pick it up again. It’s a continuing process, just like the journey of life. But how do you really know you are wearing a mask?
We can look at Yahshua [Jesus], our Messiah. While He was tempted to use masks like we are, He was true to Himself always.
Yahshua was happy. He smiled, laughed and was joyful. He was not afraid to enjoy Himself. (John 2:1-11)
Yahshua didn’t wear the mask of a tough. He expressed heartfelt emotion when He was moved to do so. (John 11:35)
Yahshua openly expressed His outrage at wickedness in the Temple courts. (Matthew 21:12-13)
By removing and discarding masks, you begin being true to yourself as an individual, which begins the healing process. Masks will no longer drain you and wear you out. Instead, you explore and learn about your own personal qualities, working with that newly recognized reality. Healing begins when you accept yourself as you are at a given moment. You stop tearing yourself and others down. Build yourself and others up whenever possible. (“Your Bank Account“; “The Truth About Restoration“; “Recognizing the Counterfeit“; “The Provision of Healing and Health“; “Breakthrough Prayer: Personal Healing“)
Recognizing that you put on masks is the first step to rooting out the problem. When you stop becoming dependent on masks, some people will admire you. Others will reject you for being yourself and true to what you believe. Many will judge you and will reap the rewards of that per scripture if they don’t change [the law of judgment]. Others will consider your example and do the same, creating effective and wholesome personal change. Regardless of what you find, revealing the real you is worth the effort. This opens you up to a new vista of possibilities, even as to how you express your ‘faith’. “For Elohim has not given us the spirit of fear. To the contrary, power and love, and a mind of discernment.” – 2 Timothy 1:7, direct translation
To Elohim and the Set Apart Spirit [‘Holy Spirit’], every man, woman and child is transparent. You can fool your friends, your neighbors, and your psychologist, but you can’t fool your Father because He sees through whatever mask you are wearing. (Hebrews 4:13) He also expects disciples to remove the masks learned through sin and deception to become a community of beloved friends by exercising trust in Him and in the healing power of His Word, the fountain of real wisdom. Yes, change can be a challenge. Through consistent prayer, and by allowing the healing Counsel of the Set Apart Spirit [‘Holy Spirit’], you can become real and true to yourself and others. Ask Him to help you to remove the masks in your life and to put on His truth, building a new man through Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah. While you are doing this, root out the false things in your life and find friends that are honest-hearted and willing to share life as true friends. Removing the roots of deception, the unhealthy masks of the past, while building a closer relationship with your Father through the Spirit (always recognizing what Yahshua [Jesus] did for you) is useful and beneficial for you and others. Instead of being forcibly contained, this is an opportunity for new personal expression through the righteousness of Elohim. This is not a mask you wear, but an absence of masks, as you learn His track of righteousness. This continues from day to day, just a life continues, as you grow to maturity in your new roots of trust and love. Through Messiah and the Spirit, this strengthens and completes you into a new future that is promised. (“Exchanging Delusion for Regeneration“; “The Art of Self-Deception“; “Disciples: His Showbread Walking Out His Righteousness“)
“But refuse the worldly and the fables of old women. Then train yourself toward righteousness because bodily exercise has short-term profit, but righteousness has profit toward everything, possessing promise of life in the present and what is to be.” – 1 Timothy 4:7-8, direct translation
“Enter in through the narrow gate. Because wide is the gate and spacious the road, put to death through destruction, and many, by their reason, agree to enter. For narrow is the gate and troublesome is the road, the one that leads to life, and few agree to obtain it. Take heed that you separate yourselves from false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside are ravening wolves. You will know to mark them by their fruit. Does anyone gather grapes from a thorn, or a fig from a brier? In this way, all beneficial trees bear honest fruit, but a worthless tree bears harmful fruit. A beneficial tree cannot bear harmful fruit, neither a worthless tree bear honest fruit. All trees that do not bear honest fruit are cut down and cast into fire. In this manner, by their fruit you will know them.
Not all that say to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ enter into the purpose of the Kingdom of Heaven. To the contrary, he that yields the purpose of My Father in Heaven. Many say to Me in that Day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and in Your Name cast out devils and in Your Name yielded many miracles? Then at that time I will agree with the authority of Heaven, them I never knew. You! Depart from Me ministers of wickedness.” – Matthew 7:13-23, direct translation
Through the regeneration of the Spirit, you are more fully able to understand and use the gifts that Father YHWH gave to you, instead of what was forcibly taken away or given to you by someone else. This means that you will no longer suffer from an identity crisis, but come to know who you really are in Elohim’s loving Way.
“Now when the righteousness and kindness towards man by Elohim [‘God’, YHWH] our Savior came to light, not by works through the loving restoration of righteousness which we have lived, yet according to His loving kindness, saved us through the washing of regeneration [new life dedicated to Elohim] and being made new in the Set Apart Spirit [‘Holy Spirit’], which He poured out on us abundantly through Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah our Savior. These are set right in His favor, being heirs according to the expectation of eternal life, believing the Word and such things that I am willing to affirm thoroughly to you, because trusting in Elohim thoughtfully presides over honorable works. These works are worthy and profitable to man.” – Titus 3:4-8, direct translation
