Revelation: The Truth of the Alpha and Omega

by John Greene

revealing the book of revelationAs the Book of Revelation opens, in most translations you see the Messiah repeatedly referring to Himself as the “Alpha and Omega,” and more commonly as the “First and Last.”

“’I am the Alep and Taw, Beginning and End.’ The Master is the One Who is, and was, and is to come, the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8, Project for Truth

Alep [Alef] and Taw comes from the original Hebrew, demonstrated through some Aramaic translations. In the original translation from Hebrew in Genesis 1:1, YHWH establishes a deeper truth, that He is the Beginning and End, by noting this after His descriptive title Elohim. For convenience, when the words used are different, most translations ignore the difference because of common usage elsewhere in scripture. (Revelation 1:11, 17, 2:8, 22:13) There is still deeper truth hidden within these phrases that is beyond the clichés of Christianity around the world. So what is really being said here?

“I came to be in the Ruach [Spirit] in the day of YHWH, and heard behind me a powerful voice like a trumpet that said, ‘I am the Alep and the Taw, the Greatest and the Least…” – Revelation 1:10-11a, Project for Truth

“But when I saw Him I fell in astonishment near His feet as dead, and putting His right hand of authority and power on me, said to me, ‘Do not fear, I am the Greatest and the Least, even enjoying real life and becoming dead. And see, I am to have life from age to age, so be it, and possess the keys to the grave and power over death.” – Revelation 1:17-18, Project for Truth

“And write to the messenger of the assembly in Smyrna. Speak the following: ‘the Greatest and the Least Who became dead and enjoys real life, knows your deeds, even affliction and poverty. But you are wealthy. And the unrepentant unbelievers that say they are Jews and are not, but a congregation of demon adversaries.” – Revelation 2:8-9, Project for Truth

hebrew text of revelationThese verses truly do lay out the truth of Yahshua [Jesus] as Messiah. These scriptures make the bridge between the “Beginning and End” to “the Greatest and the Least.” While they establish the Messiah’s ultimate position of Authority, they establish a deeper truth. He was among the Greatest before He came to earth. He enjoyed real life in heaven [shamayim], not the kind of life that we live on this earth. In order to come here, He emptied Himself, becoming as nothing, willing to become less than human through death, and knowing that He would be required to deal with great pain and suffering to set straight the sin of Adam and mankind. In other words, Yahshua [Jesus] was willing to give everything up to live among us and die for the salvation of mankind. (Romans 5:15; Hebrews 2:9-155; Psalm 8:5; “Foundation of Salvation“; “Roots of Salvation“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “The Magi of this Age“)

“Now, whatever encouragement is in Messiah, whether comfort in love, whether through hearts and minds in the Ruach, whether tender affection and compassion, my joy is overflowing that we are of the same wisdom of mind, possess the same love, are unified in the one Way of understanding. Nothing through ill-tempered contention or empty pride, but in modesty without rising above another in authority, giving attention not only to yourself, but each one also to others. For in this way, exercise your wisdom, the same that is also in Messiah Yahshua, Who, existing in the nature of Elohim, did not consider equality with Elohim as being a prize to be grasped after; yet, became nothing to Himself, not refusing the nature of a servant, coming to be in the likeness of a man, even coming to know the ways of life as a man, abasing Himself and coming to be obedient as far as death, even death on the stake of the Romans. On account of Elohim, He was even exalted beyond measure and His Name restored to favor beyond every Name, in order that in the Name of Yahshua every knee would bend, in heavenly regions [shamayim] and all that has existed on the earth. Even every tongue will agree completely, because Yahshua Messiah is Master, to the honor of Elohim the Father.” – Philippians 2:1-11, Project for Truth

agreement with YHWHI’m not saying that He was less than mankind, but He allowed Himself to become humiliated as the least among men into death, making Himself less than even a man through death – an unprecedented accomplishment in fulfillment of promise. Upon His victory over death, Yahshua [Jesus] was elevated as a High Priest and Judge over all of humanity through the end of this age and into Elohim’s Sovereign Age, removing the leadership of this age of flesh that fights continually against Him. (“Leadership & the Universal Authority of Messiah“; “Leaders & the Antichrist Spirit of Wisdom“; “Understanding Sin“)

“For YAHWEH so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, HRB
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your righteousness. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. May it be as you have promised!
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The name Yahshua [Y’shua] is an original language name for Jesus.
He is often referred to simply as the Messiah or Master.
