You may find yourself in difficult times. Sleep usually does not come easily during a crisis. You may clear your mind and you find worry drifts back to you. King David of Israel was under an incredible amount of pressure. (Psalms 3) His son Absalom had rebelled and started an uprising against him. David was on the run with his life at great risk.
“But You, O YHWH, are a shield for me, My esteem, and the One lifting up my head. I cried to YHWH with my voice, and He heard me from His set-apart mountain. Selah.” – Psalms 3:3-4, ISR98
David used poetic device to express where Solomon would build the first permanent temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. He expressed confidence that YHWH would hear him. YHWH is not partial. (Acts 10:34-35; Romans 2:9-11; Colossians 3:25) He is talking to you too! Yahshua [Jesus] said that you “should always pray and not lose heart.” (Luke 18:1-8) He wants you to pray, not to fear! (1 Samuel 12:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:17) YHWH will respond to you even during the most urgent times. (“YHWH is Your Shield and Salvation“; “Petra and the Rock of Salvation“; “Foundation of Salvation“)
Even under these circumstances David was able to sleep in relative peace. David knew that YHWH sustained him and that every morning was already a gift from Him. David cried out to his Heavenly Father and was heard.
“I laid down and slept; I awoke, for YHWH sustained me.” – Psalm 3:5, ISR98
The assurance of answered prayer brings peace and rest. How much easier it is to sleep when you have the assurance that your Father is in control of circumstances. When you are lying awake at night, fretting and contemplating a crisis that you can’t change, pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father [Elohim, YHWH, ‘God’].
“Salvation is to YAHWEH. Your blessing is on Your people. Selah.” – Psalm 3:8, HRB
Thank Him that He is in control. He is your rock, your shield.
“My deliverance and my esteem depend on Elohim; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in Elohim.” – Psalm 62:7, ISR98
“YAHWEH is good for a stronghold in the day of distress; and He knows those who trust in Him.” – Nahum 1:7, HRB
“Elohim is our refuge and strength, very much found to be a help in distresses. On account of this we will not fear when the earth changes and when mountains are slipping into the heart of the seas. Let its waters rage and foam; let the mountains shake in its swelling. Selah….YAHWEH of Hosts is with us; the Elohim of Jacob is a refuge for us. Selah.” – Psalms 46:1-3, 7, HRB
Forget about the fears of the world, and those that fear about you. You can trust in Elohim. Then sleep will come.
