A Crisis in Prayer & Spirit

by John and Ruth Greene

In Christianity today, a true crisis of belief exists. The name of ‘Jesus’ is paraded considerably, but when you closely compare teaching with the contextual Word of YHWH, unbelief in what the Master said is evident on a wide scale. The authority of Yahshua [Jesus] and the Bible has come to be questioned because of a poor example and rampant false teaching. However, the careful observer can easily see the fruits of real Biblical teaching for what they are.

crisis-in-prayerOne example of this is in prayer, a most important aspect in the life of any disciple of the Messiah. Yet, in recent years, praying TO ‘Jesus’ has become a new platform in prayer despite the straightforward teaching in the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. This indicates that multitudes of Christians, including the ‘leaders’ among them, have forgotten the importance of the Heavenly Father and the power of the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit], the Divine Counselor that disciples of Messiah truly depend on. (Acts 19:1-7) While invoking a prayer ‘in Jesus’ name’ may seem legalistic to some, praying TO ‘Jesus’ is clearly counter to what He taught. Who are Christians following if they aren’t following ‘Christ’? Through the Holy Spirit, disciples are to be set apart to the Father. Ignoring what scripture says doesn’t set anyone apart. Being part of the world apart from YHWH, as well as refusing the power of the Holy Spirit is a sure way to separate yourself from YHWH. (Acts 19:1-6; “Are You a Christian First or Last?“; “Seeking a New Spirit“; “Love Your Enemies: Would a Christian Burn a Qur’an?“)

To pray in Yahshua’s [Jesus’] name means to pray with knowledge and recognition of His authority, including what He did for us. The disciple petitions His Father, YHWH, to hear and act on personal prayer. This is done only in the name of the Messiah. (Acts 19:13-17) That is the order of YHWH’s Kingdom. When you listen to Him and pray according to His Will, you can have confidence. You are in His Will and your respect His Will. Your prayer honors and glorifies both YHWH and His Son. The Holy Spirit helps you through patience and practice to discern right from wrong. (“YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“; “The Secret Weapons of Christians“)

praise-prayer“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” – 1 John 5:14-15, NKJV

While your Father is not a personal genie for every vain desire, He wants an open dialogue with His people. He wants to speak to open hearts, for you to open your heart. He wants to purify your life. This is not about attaching certain words to a prayer. If what you ask for or say in prayer is not for YHWH’s purpose or according to His will, your prayer is meaningless, except to your desires. Bring His Word into your prayer life to help the Bible resound in your mind and heart. The whole point in bringing Elohim’s Kingdom into your heart is to make the desires of your heart and the desires of YHWH one. This is done through the power of the Holy Spirit and with your consistent cooperation and learning through obedience. This means that belief is especially important. When YHWH tells you something you believe it. When the Bible speaks to you, you believe it. Distorting or denying YHWH’s Word doesn’t line up your heart or your life with Him. Twisting the His Word in unbelief refuses and rejects the Holy Spirit and renders Him powerless to work in your life. It denies Him. The Holy Spirit came to convict the world in the place of Yahshua [Jesus] the Master and Messiah, who could not remain here on earth as He was. (“Called to Have Confidence in Messiah“; “Refining Your Heart“; “The Need to Keep Spiritually Clean“; “The Struggle for Purity of Heart“)

“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.” – John 16:5-15, NKJV

holy spiritYahshua [Jesus] said that the Holy Spirit will tell disciples what is to come. He will tell you the nature of your mission for YHWH, the oppositions that you face, and the final outcome of your efforts. The Holy Spirit revealed truth to His disciples. When the Holy Spirit came after Messiah’s death, truth was revealed to the disciples so that they could teach and write YHWH’s truth, the ‘basis of faith’ and outline of trust for Elohim’s people today. (“Christian: Your Basis of Trust“; “Abiding in Trust“)

When the disciples heard Yahshua [Jesus] speak in John 16:30, they believed His words because they were convinced by His words. Their belief was simply the first step towards greater understanding. As a disciple, you must expect continuing tension with an unbelieving world that is out of sync with Messiah. You have peace and comfort because you are in sync with Him. You can overcome whatever you face, regardless of the world around you. Yahshua [Jesus] did not abandon His disciples and He will not abandon you! You can have His peace with the comfort of the Holy Spirit. (“Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “Living in an Apostate World“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“)

Knowing and using the gifts of YHWH’s Spirit is especially important in the life of a disciple. Because of the Holy Spirit, YHWH’s people are empowered so that they can accomplish their tasks. Believing disciples turn to the Holy Spirit to give them the strength, courage and insight to accomplish their work for Elohim in the power of Messiah and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables you to witness, to love and to serve. Disciples and organized believers are empowered through the Holy Spirit, not by their own enthusiasm and strength. The Holy Spirit is the promised Counselor and Guide sent to all disciples when Yahshua [Jesus] ascended to heaven. (“Gifts of the Spirit & Speaking in Tongues“; “YHWH’s Promise to His Elect“; “The Promise of the Holy Spirit“)

The obedient gathering of the Messiah, through the power of the Holy Spirit is a powerful agent for change that is evident by its fruit. The Holy Spirit was sent so that Messiah would be within His followers after He ascended. Real Christianity is supernatural through YHWH’s Kingdom. When the obedient body of Messiah, the gathering of YHWH’s people, really examines and observes His Word, they become Spirit-conscious instead of problem-grounded. The Holy Spirit reminds us of the words of Yahshua [Jesus], accurate Bible teaching, gives us the words to say and fills us with power. (John 14:16-17; see Chapters 14-16) Through trust, each disciple is able to fully claim the power of the Holy Spirit to do Elohim’s work. (“YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“; “Disciples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“)

pentecost-windThe Holy Spirit was made available to all believers in Messiah at Pentecost. The Pentecost was described as a blowing wind from heaven that filled the house. Tongues of fire came that separated, resting on each disciple. They were filled with the Spirit and began to speak in tongues, which ministered to believers and unbelievers of foreign languages alike. (Acts 2:1-13) At the time, Jerusalem was celebrating the Feast of Weeks, which witnessed to an international audience, resulting in a worldwide harvest of new believers that embraced true faith. (Luke 3:16; Joel 2:28-29; Exodus 19:16-18) Tongues represent speech and communication through the gospel. Fire is Elohim’s purifying Presence, which burns away undesirable elements of our lives and motivates disciples to tell others about YHWH’s truth. (“YHWH’s Revolution“)

Since that day long ago, each disciple receives the person of the Holy Spirit personally and individually, but the purpose of these tongues has not changed. Few understand that this is not mere babbling or show, but designed specifically to witness, to edify to those that speak other languages in the presence of foreigners as He sees fit, and as the need arises. This benefits and changes the life of the hearer that YHWH’s Spirit is directed to. (“The Real Power Behind Baptism“)

holy-fire-baptismMany believe that the Holy Spirit is instantly received at baptism. This is not necessarily true. How can a disciple receive what he does not know or what is improperly taught? The baptism of the Holy Spirit must initially be taught and understood in the context of the work disciples have to do. Disciples of the Messiah must know about the work of the Holy Spirit so that they can begin to allow the process of renewing their mind and heart. Many religions negate the power of Elohim’s Spirit by what they believe or through lack of belief. Counter to what many believe, life renewal is not an instantaneous process, but a process of surrender over time. Mind and heart renewal allow for maturity and discernment, essential in the life of all disciples. (“Discipleship is Renewal“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“)

church-sittingBeing a church member or attending services is not proof of adoption as children of YHWH. (Romans 8:9, 14-17; 1 Corinthians 6:17; Galatians 4:6-7) Elohim’s Holy Spirit begins a lifelong process of change as you submit yourself to the teaching of the Messiah. (Galatians 3:3; Philippians 1:6) Over time, you come to appreciate and understand your personal relationship with YHWH, and through time, He works in sanctified disciples to help them become like Messiah through the power of His Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11; Ephesians 4:4) Each of us in Messiah can testify as to the extraordinary results. (“What is God’s Church?“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“)

In this ministry, traditions of men and doctrines apart from the Bible are not the option of denominations. The Bible is our guide, a personal stronghold of trust. For our benefit, the Apostle Paul discussed the gifts of the Spirit. These are not to be confused with the fruits of the Spirit listed at Galatians 5:22-23. The fruits of the Spirit are desirable and necessary characteristics for individual members of the gathering of the Messiah. The gifts of the Spirit are to be used for upbuilding, a testimony to others. Many religions have removed these from their belief based on fear or their version of doctrine. However, regardless of how fearful, questionable or troublesome any group of people think certain Bible teaching is, scripture supports the operation of the gifts of the Spirit today for mature disciples of Messiah. (“Doctrine Is What You Do“; “Consenting to Fables of Men“; “YHWH First: Your Life Is Your Testimony“)

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” – 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, NKJV

Gifts of the Holy Spirit are words of wisdom, words of knowledge, gift of healing, gift of miracles, gift of prophecy, discerning of spirits, gift of tongues and interpreting tongues. (“Bible: Wisdom 101“; “Video – Wisdom of YHWH, Wisdom of Man“)

“And coming up Yahshua [Jesus] talked with them, saying, ‘All authority in Heaven and on earth was given to Me. Then having gone, disciple all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the completion of the age.’” – Matthew 28:18-20, HRB

“And [just before Yahshua, Jesus ascended to heaven] He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News to every creature. He who has believed and has been immersed, shall be saved, but he who has not believed shall be condemned. And these signs shall accompany the ones who believe: In My Name they shall cast out demons, they shall speak with renewed tongues, they shall take up snakes, and if they drink any deadly drink it shall by no means hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall get well.’” – Mark 16:15-18, ISR98

“And they went out and preached in all places. And our Master was helping them and establishing their words by the signs that they were doing.” – Mark 16:20, HRB

The gifts and fruits of YHWH’s Spirit are part of the commission of disciples. (John 14:11-12) In reading the gospel, we can see this carried out in the testimony of the early believers. More importantly, Yahshua [Jesus] promised that His people would do greater things than He did while on earth! The Apostle Paul reminds disciples today through the Thessalonians:

“Because our Good News did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Set-apart Spirit and in entire confirmation, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.” – 1 Thessalonians 1:5, ISR98

first-century-christian-2aIt’s terribly sad that submission to the Holy Spirit didn’t continue long past the first-century. For much of the last two thousand years, professed believers have been content to expand the reach of their religion through force and deception (depending on the age). A new Christian gospel was pressed into action by Constantine and the “universal” or Roman Catholic Church. This corruption has been continued despite attempts at reform. Corruption dies hard when the YHWH’s Holy Spirit isn’t present. Because of this, a watered-down message has been fed to the world without the benefit of the gifts of the Spirit, and in many cases, the fruits of the Spirit. Much of civilization crashed into dark ages and for centuries, public use of the Bible was banned and teaching twisted to meet the politics of the moment. (“Delusion & the Tightening Noose of the Beast System“)

pope-benedict-200x300Disciples are still in waiting for the Second Coming of Messiah, so the age of fulfilling the  commission of disciples is still in place. All those that have been willing to listen over the centuries can be saved per the promise of YHWH, Elohim of Hosts. Supernatural signs as noted by scripture are part of the commission to spread the good news. While Christians have been warned about a counterfeit and Satan being an angel of light, the Apostle Paul complimented the Corinthians of his day:

“I give thanks to my Elohim always concerning you for the grace of YAHWEH given to you in Messiah Yahshua [Jesus], that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Messiah was confirmed in you, so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting the revelation of our Master, Yahshua Messiah, who also will confirm you until the end, blameless in the day of our Master Yahshua Messiah.” – 1 Corinthians 1:4-8, HRB

These spiritual gifts are clearly expected to be a sign of true trust in Elohim, rather than the secular, god-in-a-box kind of thinking that so many have grown accustomed to. The Holy Spirit is limited by unbelief just as Yahshua [Jesus] was, and the world of professed Christianity is full of it! The real issue is that those that suffer from unbelief will suffer the most! Instead of expecting the action of YHWH’s Spirit or working with His Will, hundreds of millions willingly deny the power and commit the unpardonable sin of rejecting Him and His ministry if they persist to death. You deny through your action or lack of action until the end of this age. (1 Thessalonians 4:8, 5:29; Mark 3:28-29; Matthew 12:30-32; Luke 12:8-10; Hebrews 6:4-8, 10:26-29; Ephesians 4:30; “Life Healing and Belief“; “The Unpardonable Sin“; “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“)

“And the Feast of Dedication took place in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Yahshua [Jesus] was walking in the sanctuary, in Solomon’s Porch. Then the Jews encircled Him, and said to Him, ‘Until when do You lift up our soul? If You are the Messiah, tell us openly.’ Yahshua answered them, ‘I told you, and you did not believe. The works which I do in the name of My Father, these bear witness about Me. But you do not believe for you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give eternal life to them, and they shall not perish forever! And not anyone shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are One (echad-united)!’ Then again the Jews took up stones, that they might stone Him. Yahshua answered them, ‘Many pleasing works from the presence of My Father I have shown you. For which of them do you stone Me?’ The Jews answered Him, saying, ‘We do not stone You concerning a good work, but concerning blasphemy; and because You, being a son of man, make Yourself Elohim.’ Yahshua answered them, ‘Has it not been written in your Law, “I have told you, you are Elohim?” (Psa. 82:6) If those people He called Elohim because the Word of Elohim was with them and scripture is not able to be broken. To Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world you say, ‘You blaspheme!’ concerning that I had told you that I am the Son of Elohim. If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me. But if I do, even if you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may perceive and may believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.’”- John 10:22-38, HRB

jesus-teachingThe Jewish leaders did not like the teaching of Yahshua [Jesus]. The same is true today in many places, both in professed Christianity and in the world. The world has the opinions and contentions of men that do not seek the Heavenly Father or His Spirit. Yahshua [Jesus] said that His works bore witness, but that those that refused to believe were not His sheep. In reality, those that seek to carefully obey what Yahshua [Jesus] said can begin to walk in the Holy Spirit instead of walking in their flesh. Those that follow His true teaching cannot be snatched out of YHWH’s hand, except by their own devices or through adopting false teaching. (Matthew 5:17-20; John 14:15, 23, 24; 1 John 5:3; 2 Timothy 1:13; John 12:47, 48; Galatians 1:6-9; 2 Timothy 4:3, 4; “Disciple: Wavering Between Two Opinions“; “Do You Give Leftovers to Messiah?“)

“Love is patient, is kind, love does not envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not seek its own, is not provoked, reckons not the evil, does not rejoice over the unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth, it covers all, believes all, expects all, endures all. Love never fails. And whether there be prophecies, they shall be inactive; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be inactive.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part shall be inactive. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child. But when I became a man, I did away with childish matters.  For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know, as I also have been known. And now belief, expectation, and love remain – these three. But the greatest of these is love. “– 1 Corinthians 13:4-13, ISR98

heal-blind-manHuman effort alone can never bring YHWH’s promises or His favor. (Galatians 3:3) The honorable activity of sanctified disciples is mandated and evidenced through brotherly love: healing, miracles, tongues and more, along with teaching that builds up and brings unbelievers into line with YHWH’s Word, while restoring the uninformed and Christians alike to the accurate knowledge of Elohim’s Word. (Hebrews 2:4; Romans 11:29) The Holy Spirit’s power in evidence demonstrates power, a potent testimony filled with love and added to the message that must be taught in this age in the short time that remains. Until Messiah’s Return, we are to love through these gifts, to carry out the Will of the Father until the imperfect is replaced by His Kingdom through Yahshua [Jesus], the Perfect One. The fullness of YHWH’s age is coming. It will not fail because He does not lie! (Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 6:18; Titus 1:2; “The Second Coming: Getting Ready“)

bible-smMany choose to reject the warnings, teachings of Yahshua [Jesus] and demonstrations of faith by early disciples, even among those that claim to love and respect Him. The original 12 disciples were with Yahshua [Jesus] every day, training with Him and learning the truth on a first-hand basis. Despite this, one of them continued to harden his heart, joining the plot with certain members of the Sanhedrin to put Yahshua [Jesus] to death. Judas was unrepentant until it was too late, thoroughly entangled in his own web of deceit. (Mark 14) While this was prophesied by Yahshua [Jesus], Judas made the choice of his own free will. Those privileged to be close to the Bible are not necessarily committed to the truth. As a seeker of Bible truth, you do not want to make the same mistake. Would you choose to suffer from unbelief because of your past or your culture? Why would you want to live a lie, to live in vanity and to be eternally separated from Elohim because of chronic and fatal unbelief? (“Culture: Prompting Falsehood Through the Lie“; “Approved: Lie Cheat & Steal“; “What You Say: Evidence Of What You Believe“)

“And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.’

But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;” – Matthew 13:14-16, NKJV

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
