Beware of False Teachers & Disciples

by John and Ruth Greene

false teaching“Take heed that you separate yourselves from false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside are ravening wolves. You will know to mark them by their fruit. Does anyone gather grapes from a thorn, or a fig from a brier? In this way, all beneficial trees bear honest fruit, but a worthless tree bears harmful fruit. A beneficial tree cannot bear harmful fruit, neither a worthless tree bear honest fruit. All trees that do not bear honest fruit are cut down and cast into fire. In this manner, by their fruit you will know them.” – Matthew 7:15-20, direct translation

False prophets were common in old Israel. They prophesied only what the king and the people wanted to hear. They tickled the ears of the listener, claiming that they spoke a message from Elohim [‘God’, YHWH]. They misdirected issues of importance to a counterfeit message, sometimes obviously. This situation with false teachers is common today. Yahshua [Jesus] says to beware of those who sound religious, but are motivated by money, fame, influence and power. You can tell who they are by listening carefully to their message. They may encourage you to ‘believe in the ‘church’, to put the ‘church’ first. They may encourage you to certain sayings of reconstituted wisdom of man that may even sound scriptural. Their teaching minimizes the accurate teaching of Messiah while they magnify themselves and their personal ministry. These kind of teachers are especially vulnerable to direction from the government and other ‘authorities’ that seek to capture your heart and mind apart from your Heavenly Father. repent signMany Christians are being led by those that claim to speak for ‘God’. The airwaves, internet and cable television are full of them. Multitudes hang onto every word a man or woman announces that ‘God’ has revealed to him or her. Which god has revealed this wisdom is very important. Disciples of Messiah must evaluate the words of teachers, preachers and ‘church leaders.’ Christians must examine their current lives and patterns, as well as what they say. This requires discernment, as well as a certain amount of access to the teacher.

In the professed church, it isn’t uncommon for ‘men of God’ to make advances to women in the flock, as well as women that are drawn to their charisma. They exhibit the fruit of the world, not the fruit of Elohim’s Spirit. (Romans 12:1-2; 1 John 1:9; 2 John 1:7-11) This is temptation and conduct running freely into sin. This type of conduct is wicked and these people are doomed to destruction without sincere repentance. Just as trees are consistent in the kind of fruit they bear, so Elohim wants for His disciples. He wants all His people to have righteous standards that bear up under scripture. (“Disciple: The Pattern of Your Life“; “What is the Standard of Life Conduct in a Disciple of Messiah?“; “Are You a Christian First or Last?“; “Is Your Forgiveness Real?“)

Bible knowledgeThis is not an excuse for ‘witch hunts,’ humiliating and harassing members of Messiah’s gathering without cause. (Matthew 18:15-17; Titus 3:10-11; Galatians 6:1; 2 Timothy 4:2; 1 Timothy 5:20; Romans 14:1-23; Hebrews 10:24-25) Everyone is subject to sin, including those people that judge. (Romans 3:23) We must show the same mercy to others that we need for ourselves. (Matthew 6:14-15, 7:1-5) Patterns of wickedness or ‘lack of character’ always show over time and must be dealt with when they endanger others in the gathering. ‘Bad trees” are those that deliberately focus on bearing false teaching, as well as taking advantage of brothers and sisters in the gathering. Your cause is to examine what is being taught through discernment that you gain through scripture. Watching for motives that do come to light is also important. (1 John 4:1; Matthew 6:24, 33; Proverbs 25:26) This process of increasing discernment is growing into spiritual maturity. A single leader or worldly leadership cannot be your source. Only One is your Source through Yahshua [Jesus] your High Priest in the power of your Counselor, the Holy Spirit [Sanctified, Set Apart Spirit]. (“Who Is Your Source?“; “Disciple of Messiah: Where Do You Place Your Trust?“; “Disciple of Messiah: Learning to Live in Trust“; “Christianity: A Crisis in Prayer & Spirit“; “Are You Rejecting YHWH’s Holy Spirit?“; “Testing for YHWH’s Spirit“; “Wavering Between Two Opinions“; “Truth About the Modern Concept of Pastor“)

“Enter in through the narrow gate. Because wide is the gate and spacious the road, put to death through destruction, and many, by their reason, agree to enter. For narrow is the gate and troublesome is the road, the one that leads to life, and few agree to obtain it.“ – Matthew 7:13-14, direct translation

Narrow does not indicate difficulty in declaring to be a Christian or disciple. There is one way to live eternally with Elohim. Only a few, those that decide to walk with the Messiah, will achieve the gift of eternal life. (John 10:7-9) Obedience is important, just as belief is vital. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; “What Is Washing By The Word?“;  “YHWH is Your Shield and Salvation“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“)

“Not all that say to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ enter into the purpose of the Kingdom of Heaven. To the contrary, he that yields the purpose of My Father in Heaven. Many say to Me in that Day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and in Your Name cast out devils and in Your Name yielded many miracles? Then at that time I will agree with the authority of Heaven, them I never knew. You! Depart from Me ministers of wickedness.” – Matthew 7:15-23, direct translation

built on sandNot everyone that talks about ‘God’s Kingdom’ belongs to YHWH. Yahshua’s [Jesus] judgment is more concerned about your walk than your talk. He wants you to be set apart from the world to His Kingdom, to be righteous, not just to say the right words. Your ‘house’ (Matthew 7:24-27) represents your life. You will stand the storms of life when you do what is right in the power of the Holy Spirit, not simply talking about Elohim’s Kingdom. What you do cannot be separated from what you believe! (“Disciple: Building on Sand“; “Standing Strong Through Storms“; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“)

proud phariseeYahshua [Jesus] exposed those that sounded religious, but did not have a personal relationship with His Father. On the Day of Judgment your acceptance of what Yahshua [Jesus] taught and your relationship with YHWH matters. Many people believe that they are good people and say religious things, professing that they will have eternal life. Real trust through Messiah in the power of the Holy Spirit is what counts. This is evidenced through both conduct and lifestyle, elements of spiritual fruit that disciples must bear. (Hebrews 12:1-2, 11-13; 1 Timothy 4:8; 2 Timothy 2:5-7; 1 Corinthians 9:25-27; Colossians 3:23-24: Galatians 5:7; “The Mission of the Messiah’s Disciple“; “The Abomination That Causes Desolation“; “Leaven of the Pharisees; Leaven of the World“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“)

“For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. You will never know this freedom until you experience it for yourself. Get to know your Heavenly Father, His Son and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
