The Holy Spirit (Ruach ha’Qodesh)

by John and Ruth Greene

“Do not cast me from out of your presence and do not take away Your Holy Spirit.” – Psalm 51:11, direct translation

holy spiritDespite the opinions of science and the modern philosophy of man’s thinking, there exists distinct evidence of the ministry of the Holy Spirit (Ruach ha’Qodesh, ‘Qodesh Spirit’) or Set-Apart Spirit in YHWH’s people. Why do Elohim’s [‘God’, YHWH] people need the Holy Spirit? Yahshua [Jesus] Messiah told His disciples that He had to leave in order for the Holy Spirit to come upon His disciples in fullness as Divine Counselor. (John 14:15-17, 26, 16:7-15) The Holy Spirit lives within you to enable you to live a dedicated life despite the temptations of the dark kingdom of Satan. (“Wisdom & the Battle of Two Kingdoms“; “Holy Spirit 101“; “Listening to the Holy Spirit“)

Throughout the Bible, the actions of the Holy Spirit are evident. In the Testament of the New Covenant [called New Testament] and through evidence in the book of Acts, scripture reveals that He is a distinct person, not simply a power or a force. He isn’t the lone ranger of righteousness, He is One of Three, a part of Elohim, united in purpose. He plays a special role in the lives of disciples of the Messiah. (“Disicples: Focused on the Messiah & His Purpose“; “YHWH’s Track of Righteousness“)

Many professed Christians, full of the world [kosmos, the decoration of man’s system], are full of ignorance or doubt like the believers at Ephesus.

“And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, ‘Have ye received the Holy Spirit since ye believed?’ And they said unto him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Spirit.’ And he said unto them, ‘Unto what then were ye baptized?’ And they said, ‘Unto John’s baptism.’ Then said Paul, ‘John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on the Messiah Yahshua.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Master Yahshua.” – Acts 19:1-5, WoY

baptism of trust - Holy SpiritToday, untold numbers have accepted a baptism of repentance in the ‘Name of Jesus.’ They may have been baptized as a testimony to others and ‘in the Name of Jesus,’ but because of poor or errant teaching, have not learned about operating in the Holy Spirit or His true role in their life. Myriads are routinely told that they have the Holy Spirit, but that the works of the Holy Spirit were for only for the first century days of the Messiah, having nothing to do with Christianity today. With friends and teachers like this, you don’t need enemies! (“The Real Power Behind Baptism“; “The Magi of this Age“; “Christian Disciples & the Authority of Man“)

preacherPeople today are often afraid to believe in any anything that might seem excessive, or they fear being labeled as eccentric and way off center. Because of this, they easily reject the Holy Spirit. The leadership of ‘the church’ doesn’t want the Holy Spirit because He takes the power away from the hierarchy of the church leadership. He may show the spiritual infancy of the leaders. These leaders may say that the Holy Spirit lives in Christians in some way, but deny His evidence, His fruit. Further, the evidence within the church proves that they deny Him, especially since church leadership teaches against the signs of His indwelling power. Some of this teaching springs from the inadequacies of teachers and leaders, fearing that if you are listening to the Holy Spirit, you won’t listen to them. Others simply refuse to be bothered with the formalities of scripture where the Holy Spirit is concerned. With so much misinformation, you can appreciate why so many shy away from ‘power of God’ or the fruit of the indwelling of His Spirit. (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 6:19, 12:1-31; “Leadership & Highly Effective People“; “Christians & Leadership Crisis“; “Consenting to Fables of Men“)

bible-studyThe Holy Spirit (actually ‘Set-Apart Spirit’ or ‘Ruach’) is preparing and working through the existing remnant of His people. The first-century gathering or body of the Messiah relied on the Holy Spirit and genuine Bible-seeking disciples today need to do the same. This is essential to rightly divide the Word of YHWH, the Bible. (“YHWH’s Promise to His Elect“)

“When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, ‘Master, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?’ And He said unto them, ‘It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.’” – Acts 1:6-8, WoY

Understanding the Holy Spirit is of vital importance so that you can be more effective at serving the cause of the Messiah in these Last Days.

The Holy Spirit is Elohim: Acts 5:3-5
The Holy Spirit is all knowing: 1 Corinthians 2:10-11
The Holy Spirit is eternal: Hebrews 9:14
The Holy Spirit has equal status with YHWH and Messiah: Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 John 5:7
The Holy Spirit was and is active in the life of Yahshua [Jesus]: Luke 1:35, Acts 10:38, Luke 4:18, Matthew 4:1, Acts 1:2, Hebrews 9:14, Romans 8:11
The Holy Spirit gave certain instructions to the gathering of the Messiah: Acts 13:2, 16:6, 20:23, 21:11

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” – John 16:7-11, NKJV

older couple bible studySpiritually speaking, the Holy Spirit is here to convict the unbeliever and to aid the believer. He doesn’t speak of Himself, but of the works of YHWH in the name of Yahshua [Jesus] the Messiah! (John 16:13-14) His work with the unbeliever is to reprove the darkness of the world of sin. Along with the knowledge and understanding of scripture, He brings conviction of sin to the lost and unrepentant. (John 16:9; 1 Corinthians 2:14) He convinces men and women that Yahshua [Jesus] is the Son of Elohim [YHWH] and can be their Savior when they are willing to believe. (John 4:13-14) He proves that the power of Satan is broken through Messiah, through His sacrificial death. (John 16:11) The Holy Spirit regenerates the sinner, assisting to renew the mind and heart of the old man into a new man in Messiah. (John 3:5; Colossians 3:1, 10; Ephesians 4:24; 2 Corinthians 5:17; “Redeemed Through Obedience & Faith“; “YHWH’s People Walk by Faith and Obedience to His Word“; “The Importance of Practical Repentance“)

'Moral principles' highlighted in green, under the heading 'Ethics'The Holy Spirit is all about discernment, the insight of righteousness. This isn’t any old definition of righteousness, but the righteousness of Elohim.  The insight of the Holy Spirit isn’t measured by another worldly or religious standard. The insight of the Holy Spirit IS NOT a moral or ethical code, regardless of what elements of the world [kosmos] may claim. The Holy Spirit isn’t human insight, but the righteous insight of Elohim made human through His servants. (“Discernment 101: Learning to be Discerning“; “Discernment the World Doesn’t Have“; “Discernment: Having an Ear to Deeper Understanding“)

The work of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers is evidenced in many ways. The Holy Spirit teaches and leads disciples into Bible truth. (1 John 2:27, John 16:13) He empowers YHWH’s people to witness and fills their mouths with His words in time of need. (Acts 1:8, Luke 12:12) He gives His people direction and brings them comfort with assurance. (Romans 8:14, 16) He helps genuine believers to live above fleshly lusts of all kinds. (Galatians 5:16) He seals Elohim’s ownership into the lives of believers. (Ephesians 1:13-14) He administers gifts to the gathering or body of believers. (1 Corinthians 12:7) He joins with the body to invite the lost. (Revelation 22:17) Only through Him can the disciple stand firm in belief and continue to give effective testimony. (“YHWH’s Revolution“; “Origins of Faith & Global Culture“; “YHWH’s Faithful: Victory in Spiritual Battle“)

“And to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for profiting, for to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit, and to another belief by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, and to another operations of powers, and to another prophecy, and to another discerning of spirits, and to another kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these, distributing to each one individually as He intends.” – 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, ISR98

which-wisdomWisdom from YHWH is given as needed for difficult situations in the lives of His dedicated disciples. A word of knowledge is given as needed for a certain time or problem. When extra strength is needed for a task or certain purpose, the Holy Spirit provides it. From Elohim’s love and concern springs physical, emotional and mental health through healing on His terms. He performs tasks that are beyond the ability and possibility of human efforts. He proclaims the strong word of Messiah with great power and insight so that the lost will consider the truth. He helps His people to understand what is going on in the spiritual world, to distinguish between deception and truth. He provides language and precise understanding given as a witness as He did at Pentecost. (Acts 2:6) He gives His people the ability to understand and interpret languages not previously known. Continuing relationship and spiritual growth increases trust, which further increases right relationship and trust, the basis of all relationships. (2 Corinthians 5:7, Hebrews 11:6, 13:5-6, Romans 10:17, James 2:17-20; “Understanding Sin“; “Choosing to Serve YHWH, Not Man“; “Filling Your Life with Truth Instead of Deception“; “The Antichrist & the War on Reality“)

In some capacity, all of these gifts are in operation in the genuine body of the Messiah, serving as a witness in this day. These gifts are to magnify the name of YHWH alone, not for the glory of a person or group. These gifts belong to YHWH alone and as His people, we desire them. (1 Corinthians 12:31; “Gifts of the Spirit & Speaking in Tongues“)

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Yahweh. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are the Messiah’s have impaled the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” – Galatians 5:19-25, WoY

Yahshua [Jesus] said that in the last days there would come many false teachers and prophets who would be able to simulate the gifts of the Spirit. (Mark 13:22) Those that look to miracles and wonders as the sole seals of approval for a ministry will be deceived. There is a more useful way to discover the truth. You simply look at the fruit of their lives. (Matthew 7:16) The fruit of the Spirit cannot be duplicated successfully by the dark kingdom. (“Beware of False Teachers & Disciples; “Messiah Teaches about Fruit in the Lives of People“; “Spiritual Fruit & Renewing Your Mind“)

joyLove is well defined in 1 Corinthians 13, important truths for disciples. (1 John 3:14) Believers don’t hold onto anger and bitterness. Disciples must cast these poisons aside. Despite the world around them, they are often full of joyprovided by a righteous relationship with YHWH. (John 15:11) They are full of peace, not based on circumstances, but on relationship with Elohim. Peace beyond human understanding is possible in times of trouble. (Philippians 4:6-7) Patience in the midst of trial is a quality of a Spirit-filled life. Abiding in Messiah helps a disciple to develop this quality as you mature spiritually over time. (Romans 5:3-4) When the Spirit has an active role in your life, you are a better person as a result. (2 Timothy 2:24) Having a pure heart condition is vital to your spiritual well-being. Pure motives spring from a true heart. (Matthew 5:8, Titus 1:16) Trusting disciples may not be perfect, but seek to be found close to YHWH in all life situations. (1 Corinthians 4:2) A true disciple does not continually seek His own personal will or expect attention to be focused on self. Humility is vital to the life of any disciple of the Messiah. (1 Corinthians 13:5) Self-control is an important signal, a testimony of your Spirit-filled life. (Ephesians 5:15) A disciple of the Messiah doesn’t need the laws of man to order his life. A disciple has the Holy Spirit and the quality of YHWH’s Spirit in his life. “For YHWH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16, RNKJV
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending the Messiah, your only begotten Son to be my Savior. I believe in Him and have made this belief the center of my life. Because of this, by faith I have everlasting life! Thank you! I repent of my sins and of my past, freely admitting that I have fallen short of Your glory. I look fully forward to you in my life and commit my life to You. Thank You YHWH, my Heavenly Father for setting me free in the name of your Son Yahshua [Jesus]. Amen.
genuine-articleYou will never enjoy true freedom through the Messiah and power of the Holy Spirit unless you read and absorb the Bible in prayer and trust. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, your Holy Counselor that lives in you to help you learn about the truth of YHWH and His spiritual gifts.
Satan does not want you to have the excellence of YHWH in your life. People pray for protection and want to be taken care of, but often do little in growing close to Him. The world, your husband, your wife, your family, your government do not build your trust in YHWH or free you from spiritual bondage. Your church or your pastor cannot save you. Education, power and money will not free you, but only the Word of your Heavenly Father. Salvation is a daily walk, an act of love for yourself and for those around you, not a one-time event that centers only on you. Make the Word of YHWH your own, your very life!
YHWH is Yahweh, the covenant name of your Heavenly Father.
The names Yahshua and Yahushua are original language names for Jesus,
He is often referred simply as the Messiah or Master.
